That 'boho chic' ornament makes me think of Tatiana Casiraghi, and she is in a totally different league.

That's who I thought of...and generally 'boho chic' translates into sloppy and unkempt.

Tatiana has not impressed me at all.

Are tiaras ever a need this day and age? Yet aristocratic families hold on to them and displays them out in the few occasions. I’m not sure it’s hard to fathom Harry’s line would have its own tiara to pass down. Especially considering that during his wife’s lifetime, they’ll get their money’s worth in uses. We know that significant pieces from the vault aren’t loaned out so easily these days. Sophie only has the five aquamarine one after years of no loans from the vault.

It may be viewed Sohpie doesn't need anything loaned to her from the vault. She has her own tiara.

That cobbled together thing? Sophie has actually borrowed from a jeweler before as well, so I don’t think Sophie quite viewed it that way.

It looks to me like Sophie has one tiara that is her personal property, the Aquamarine Necklace Tiara . The other two tiaras, her wedding tiara and the Five Aquamarine Tiara are IME loans from the Queen - she started with the wedding tiara and in 2012 switched over to the Five Aquamarine. There is a fourth tiara that she only wore once, my guess is that it was a loan from a jeweler.

Meghan will have the same need Kate has, the big dinner in December and the odd state visit. Maybe twice a year. Unless she and Harry take over for Ed and Sophie doing weddings but there wont be any for years to come. There is no reason she needs more than one tiara. No reason that one of the tiaras not in use from the royal vaults wont be given to her.

The aristocracy is a different matter. Those tiaras were bought generations ago when tiara events were common. Heck even in Diana's day, Diana wore a tiara to the ballet. Many of these families hold on to them as tradition, and many have sold them (why we see so many tiaras in auction).

When Sophie and Edward married Sophie was never meant to be a working royal. The couple had continued their jobs and planned to be private. It may be one of the reasons she was given the tiara she was. When they became full time working royals, a second tiara was purchased from her (her necklace tiara) and eventually she also got the five aquamarines.

Meghan will be a working royal from the start. And when her father in law is king (likely in less then 10 years sadly), her and her husband will be the 'spare couple' until George takes on duties which will likely be another 20 years or so after his grandfather is king. Not same place as Sophie.

Quote:
It's not entirely beyond consideration that one or two extremely wealthy Americans who have now made the UK their home might 'gift' a smallish, relatively inexpensive tiara to Meghan as a symbol of the so-called 'special relationship' between the two countries and the two individuals tying the knot. Unlikely I'm sure but not impossible.

Tiaras can be purchased relatively cheaply at auctions - look at that one Mary of Denmark bought for herself. It's underwhelming sure, but it does a job and it only cost around 10,000 Euros or something?

Meghan could wear a nice new tiara and all the Palace has to say is that it was a wedding gift - they don't need to elaborate on who bought it for her. We have no idea who bought Kate most of her jewels.

Personally I think it's most likely she won't wear a tiara at all - maybe some sort of 'boho chic' head ornament (like this maybe) or flowers.
Again it would smack of buying 'undue influence'.

If they were not clear on who bought the gift, it would cause more issues. There would be constant suspicion it was bought by tax money. Or if rumors came out, that it was indeed bought by Americans, that it was a bribe from Trump or something ridiculous. Not being straightforward would cause more issues then anything else.

They would be smarter to simply say Charles bought it as a gift for his future bride.

This is no clumsily arranged diamond tiara. It's gorgeous.

Princess Margaret looked lovely wearing the Diamond Bandeau Tiara. Meghan would look radiant wearing it. Are there any diamond earrings in the Royal Collection to go with it?

There are plenty of earrings in the royal possession. It wouldn't have to be straight diamonds either.

From Her Majesty's Jewel Vault: EARRINGS

Or if she was given a tiara from the vaults to wear, a pair of earrings (new) may be given as a gift from her groom or Charles, or her parents like Kate's.

The Diamond Chandelier Drop Earrings or the Diamond Pendants Earrings would be marvelous for Meghan to wear.

any thoughts on tiaras?

given kate chose a simple piece as a wedding tiara, i think meghan will do the same. however, aside from the cartier halo tiara, most tiaras of the BRF are quite big pieces, fit for a queen. having said that, the Papyrus tiara would make such a lovely wedding tiara and is restrained in size.

i can also envisage meghan getting her own tiara, possibly a purchased one or a 'made for her' reutilising jewels of the family. given harry used diamonds belonging to diana for her engagement ring, this seems plausible. however, maybe given the comparisons we'd make if she gets a new tiara and kate got to use a heirloom tiara, maybe meghan and harry will push for a family tiara for meghan too.

i hope the Cambridge Lover's Knot is reserved for the use of kate, due to its association with diana and kate being diana's successor.

i found this blog on 'hidden BRF tiaras': who knows, maybe we will get to see one of these on meghan for her wedding! The Teck Crescent Tiara would be my pick. given it is in the vaults of camilla, maybe there is a chance...

Well..there's 24 pages of thoughts on tiaras! LOL

I'll just say what I've already said before...I hope she's allowed to use one of the family tiaras, either something like the Lotus or The Lozenge (if it still exists) or if not that..then an old 'model' purchased at a auction house etc.

I'm leery of them having one made after the disaster of Sohpie's tiara.

This post was initially on the wedding dress thread, I commented there with a link to this thread. It seems the admins moved it to proper thread.

I agree, other then if they purchase an old tiara from auction, I am leery about a new construction of any kind.

I wonder, would the same jeweler that created her ring be the one to create a tiara? Maybe (although still scary to contemplate) if the same company did a simple tiara to match or compliment her ring it wouldn't be a total loss...although I'd rather see her get a loaner from the family as option 1.

Most likely. Cleave and company was used for the ring, and they are the court jewelers. It would be the most likely company to do a tiara if they had one made.

Sophie's tiara was by Asprey and Garrard, who was the court jeweler until 2007.

It was informative to learn that Asprey and Garrard was the court jeweler until 2007. Is it still possible that Asprey and Garrard could make a tiara for Meghan?

I regret to say i believe it is beyond the competence of ANY Jewelry House to design and make a coherent Tiara in the modern age. In the past apprentice jewellers spent MANY years learning the requisite skills from Masters of their craft [who had themselves done the same].
These skills have [sadly] been completely lost. A FAR better idea would be to purchase an antique Tiara at auction, or privately, one from an era when these skills were thriving and at their apogee [1850-1920].

I am not sure if that is always true. Although I do agree that most attempts at modern tiara's are not very successful, once in a while a nice design sticks out. A few examples: Queen Alia's Cartier tiara, Queen Noor's sunburst tiara and CPss Mary's Midnight tiara. Queen Silvia's fringe tiara is nice enough too, as is Princess Charlene's diamond headpiece.

But in general I prefer an antique tiara as well. I suspect it will be a cheaper option too.

CERTAINLY...

If the effort and expense of a 'new' Tiara were considered, a design from the extensive archives of Cartier, Chaumet or Van Cleef and Arpels would be a far safer bet...
