I do have to wonder if that's because some of those have been earmarked for Harry's wife as Kate will have more access to the vault jewels and eventually run the collection as Queen.

I think what you suggest, jacqui, is very, very possible. It works that way with trust funds set up for grandchildren and great grandchildren with the heirs to the throne being given the short stick end of it because its a given that they will come into more than they'll ever need as monarch.

If Meghan does acquire more of Diana's personal jewels, its kind of a sweet thing as it will be something special that is assured to be passed down the line to Diana's descendants without being associated with the royal angle of the BRF and Kate will have access to so much more with royal providence.

Back to Meghan's wedding tiara, the more I've been thinking about it, I really would love to see her wearing a "crown" or circlet of myrtle. A bit different but a modern twist to an old royal tradition since Queen Victoria.

I would like to see that small tiara worn by Victoria in use...it was recently 'saved' and is on display in the V&A museum. It's lovely!

If it's the small crown that I'm thinking about, that's reserved for Queens. Too bad the oriental circlet is in the same situation. I would LOVE to see that on Meghan.

I don't think Queen Victoria's miniature crown will ever be worn again by anyone other than perhaps a future Queen Regnant. Its a copy of the Imperial State Crown and was created for Victoria to wear on top of her widow's cap.

The Queen, herself, only wears/wore the Imperial State Crown leaving Westminster Abbey at her coronation and for the State Opening of Parliament. Other than that, she wears other tiaras.

The oriental circlet is a lovely tiara..but a bit specific due to the rubies (I think it's rubies)...I doubt anyone will wear that other than the Queen (and it's not been seen since 2005 has it?)...but Camilla and then Kate may do things differently during their reigns.

I don't think the Victoria tiara will ever be worn again now that it is part of the museum. It was for sale ..the BRF could of purchased it, if they had any interest, for the Queen's collection. A private buyer bought it and donated it to the museum.

The miniature copy of the Imperial State Crown that Victoria wore is actually part of the Crown Jewel collection and never, ever would have been put up for sale. It seems so sacrilegious that a crown so important as the Imperial State Crown (even a one of a kind one made for a one of a kind Queen Regnant) would be made available for sale for anyone to wear as they please.

To me, that would be like putting the original Declaration of Independence of 1776 in the US up for auction. Or the ceremonial royal orb and scepter. Or.. or... well... you get the picture.

I hope not because then Meghan will be stuck with wearing it and jewels created on Queen Elizabeth's watch has left much to be desired (IMO).

Also I think that it would be Charles who would give such a gift, come to think of it, Charles is believed to have given Kate a parure as a wedding gift.

ETA:
I actually like Sarah's tiara and read that Garrard's was going to lend Sarah the tiara and the Queen ended up purchasing it and gifting it. I like the York parure but am not blown away by it, I wonder if the Queen picked it out, or if Sarah picked it out and the Queen paid for it.

What is Meghan's birthstone? If a brand new tiara is made for her, the tiara could include the jewels that represent her birthstone.

A new tiara that's bought for Meghan to pass down Harry's line will likely be diamonds.

With the bride's affinity for yellow gold, it'll likely be yellow gold as well.

The sapphire tiara designed by Prince Albert is absolutely beautiful and stunning. But it was not acquired by the Crown/the Queen/the Royal Collection or whatever. It's in the Royal Albert Museum and therefore it is not available for any of the royal ladies. So that one is definitely out of the race.

I voted for the lotus tiara, mostly because it seems the more likely choice compared to the others that have not been seen in decades.

I like the Lotus, it really will go with most any style of dress.

If she does wear the Lotus I hope they’ll find the time to straighten up the central pearl at the top. It’s always crooked!

How about a new tiara of yellow gold with diamonds and peridots?

Well, she's marrying third down the line of succession, and she's an American. Can't imagine she's going to get better treatment than the current Duchess is, particularly given the past history of Americans marrying into the royal family, ahem. She wants a very simple dress (not a bad one, mind), and the jewelry will undoubtedly be selected to complement. Perhaps the Lozenge or Sapphire Bandeau, but I suspect that's dependent on the particular emotional attachments those pieces have acquired, and whether they're already 'spoken for' which I can't speak to since I don't follow living monarchs so much as I do long dead ones.

If a new one is to be made up it will almost certainly be by an American firm. Can't let an opportunity to reinforce the Special Relationship pass by, particularly when its as strained as it is, oy vey. Probably Tiffany & Co., or Harry Winston.
