They have experienced the Palace under Charles (the Prince-Regent), Baudouin, under themselves as well the parallel households of Queen Elisabeth, King Léopold III, the Princesse de Réthy and Queen Fabiola. No, they do let themselves be ordered like doggies by their boss...

"Refugees are a potential and a risk" King Philippe said in his speech today, January 28, at the final New Year's Reception held for the Belgian authorities at the Royal Palace in Brussels.

Besides King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz attended as well:

The king had another meeting in the palace today, for a large group of state officials. The king said in his speech that Belgium has to continue to search for a balance between solidarity and mutual integration. The king also pointed out that the number of migrants coming into Belgium increases every year, which means that Belgium takes responsibility.

Nice to see they are perhaps a bit more attentive grandparents then parents. But that often seems to be the way with even commoner grandparents.

Is Paola carrying a walking aid or a chair? There's only that picture of Albert standing and he's holding into her.

It is a walking aid.

I saw their majesties , The King cannot walk without hanging on his wife's arms.
To-morrow we will see them at the Mass for the deceased members of our royal family.

I was surprised not to see more senior members of the Royal Family present at the Mass.

It is always nice to the the elegant princesses Léa and Esmeralda, but it is indeed a mystery why none of the more senior royals attended. Last year only Laurent was unable to attend, due to a flu.

It seems that princess Léa's son Renaud Bichara was also present, as were Prince Nikolaus and Princess Margaretha of Liechtenstein.

Princess Margaretha and Prince Niklaus of Liechtenstein have their first Child burried in the Church of Laeken.
Normally the minor Royals are on the second row. Princess Lea who married 3 times has her Children for the Mass. Prince Alexander really loved them.

But Prncess Lea is not correctly dressed as often, she attends more people events than royal events.

I don't see the problem to be honest. The King, head of the Royal House, and the Queen, escorted by members of the royal family, did attend the Mass. The two top figures were there. Two other top figures (Albert II and Paola) have retreated from public life. Prince Astrid could have been there but in essence the family was represented enough, I think. Prince Laurent, tja...., it is more handy when he keeps away from these events, I think. The Queen was wonderfully dressed with hat and gloves. Perfect.

The tradition was that each Royal attend the Mass for their deceased members.

Since King Philip and the boss her Majesty ,There is no tradition anymore ! No Family for the Christmas Concert, small family for the new years wishes , and to-day no members of the main Branch escorted the King and the Queen.

Probably reflective of the change. Astrid and Laurent have gone from the children of the king, to the siblings of the king. We will likely see the same in the UK when Charles is king. Where the majority of events once attended by the queen's extended family, will mainly focus on Charles and his family.

Though in this case it would have been nice to see more, since it was a memorial for the entire family. They all have someone buried there to remember.
