Prince Henrik's brother, cousin, something? Or is his father still living?

The dress looks nice so far. A lovely colour in the least. Not quite sure about the hair however. Maybe too much hair in that bun, pulled back too tightly. (The "instant face lift" kind?) I would've preferred a softer, less tight bun or some kind of upsweep. But the upsweep is definitely right.
(I sound so tough on Mary!

I think Fred and Mary make a very classy couple Prince Frederik is just too gorgeous! He looks so adorable and happy. This is surely a sad day for girls everywhere :( Best of luck to them both :P

Oops! Already posted!!
I like the colour of the gown but the cut for autumn? Overall this is Mary's best look but I have to agree with Alexandria on the hair. A low sleek chignon would have been better and more elegant. However, she looks very elegant and more at ease and Frederik looks just goofy with happiness! :)

I think that The royal family in Europe is open to a court event. I am enviable about it. Since we can hardly see the photograph of the Japanese Imperial Household's court event. ( I'm a Japanese, and Very very sorry that my English is so poor.)

Hate to say this but Alexandra's hair looks better than Mary's.

Usually we see Alexandra wearing colorful sleeveless ballgowns, but today her look is much more discreet. I think it's wise of her not to look as though she's trying to upstage the crown princess-to-be! Everyone looks very classy... although like the rest of you, I'm not keen about the updo and the asymmetrical style on Mary.

Alexandra's a class act and even in the subdued gown she still looks marvelous. I think Mary's look could be greatly improved. She could have worn her hair in a lower chignon or a softer up-sweep as Alexandria suggested. She shouldn't have worn the necklace with the asymmetrical gown. Instead she should have worn some gorgeous earrings. But, still it's her evening and she's lovely.

The necklace imo is the only thing that looks good on her.

I think Mary will be the designer's challenge to show off to good advantage!

I wonder how many courtieres will be 'left in the dust' until one is found who brings out the best in Mary?

I'm not sure about Mary's look. The dress is nice but a little too simple. and I agree, the necklace doesn't match. I also think her hair is a little too harsh looking and her makeup too pinkish to match her blue-green dress. I would almost say she is trying to imitate the fashion style of some of the other European royals, such as Marie Chantal, rather than the Princess Diana style, which Princess Alexandra has adopted. I don't quite know how to describe it, except it is a little more 1970s looking.

Come on guys! Give Mary a break. Alexandra's been doing this for almost 8 years. This is Mary's first night. Though i'm sure she will look back at the pics a few years from now and cringe

I think AnaM, you meant girls?
On behalf of us guys, I'm glad its not me in the limelight.
But you are right ... it is Mary's first night. I only wish she had gotten better advice from her clothier. Hope Queen M wasn't behind the way M looked at the gala dinner tonight ... I can just picture it now (a _ _ _ fight with talons drawn .... yep ruling Queen versus Queen-in-waiting) .....
