I'm afraid I don't like any of those fascinator/hat arrangements, and I like Sylvia's least of all. It can't make up its mind whether it's a modern facinator or one of those funny little veiled hats ladies used to wear in the 1950s, but they were worn on top of the head and hers looks like it's slipping off her head. I don't think any of these arrangements look good worn with long hair flopping about. Victoria's looks acceptable because her hair is up.

Now I see it close-up, Sofia's has a distinctly Minnie Mouse vibe about it.

Yes, I'm afraid I am inclined to be very catty when it comes to fascinators and hat-inators or fascin-hats. Come to think of it, they look like cat toys. Think of all the fun cats would have batting them around.

I liked Queen Silvia's the most. Victoria also looked nice with hers, though the fascinator itself is not my cup of tea...

It's fine that we all like different things. Variety is the spice of life. The world would be a boring old place if we all liked exactly the same things.

I don't like fascinator/hat arrangements with hair up or down. Some hats royal women wear are so ugly. I'm American too, so I guess I look at the whole fascinator and hats in a different way. But I think they do look good on some royal lady's and I guess everyone has there own taste and style.

Very well said!

I think that is what was boring me about the Swedish ladies at the banns: a lack of variety to season the looks. None of the outfits was really bad in itself, imo. But all of them together looked a bit whitewashed.

I also loved Victorias outfit - and her fascinator - most.
Do you know, how they are fixed at the hair, that the fascinator is not falling down?

I voted for Sheikha Mozar's outfit simply because it is something a little different to what we are used to seeing her wear (well me at least) and she looks lovely and almost casual in it!

Queen Letizia's outfit gets a very close second - it's lovely to see it again, one of my favourites!

I voted for Queen Mathilde's blue dress. That shade of blue looks amazing on her, and she just looks great here in general. I almost voted for Mathilde's green dress, but the belt put me off a little.

Honourable mentions go to Queen Letizia on May 11 and May 13, the Duchess of Cornwall and Countess of Wessex on May 12 and Crown Princess Victoria on May 12.

That's how I felt about the whole event too, really underwhelmed. None of the outfits was bad but they were just so ordinary. I'd have liked the bride-to-be, in particular, to wear something more colourful and fresh. She should've stood out in my opinion and instead she blended in with the rest.

I wouldn't be surprised if at the moment Sofia's main aim is to blend in. I suspect she'd like to avoid standing out.

I thought the same, Roslyn. It looks like Sofia did not plan to stand out, she wanted to blend in and being perceived as 'one of them'.

But I was astonished by the black fascninator she wore. I usually like black and am not amoung those who think that black should be reserved to funerals. But for a bride-bride-to be it looked too solemn, imo.

Were you really "astonished" by the black fascinator? I don't understand why the fact she's getting married soon makes any difference. I see no problem with her wearing a bit of black. With that infectious smile of hers, I don't think she looked at all solemn.

I liked Victoria's fascinator the best. Madeleine's was nice, but I thought the color was rather blah. I would have liked it better in a different color (and also if she had styled her hair differently).

I was also underwhelmed by the fashion at the banns. The only outfit I liked was Victoria's the rest were completely boring.

My first thought on seeing Madeleine's fascinator was :'Beatrice of York'. Naughty me

I don't know but I see things differently. A bride-to-be should stand out. I'm not saying she should be over-the-top but tastefully radiant. But I can understand if Sofia wanted to blend in given the various comments she has elicited from certain quarters since her engagement.

Incidentally, isn't it funny how Victoria's outfit was very similar in cut and colour to the one she wore to her own wedding banns? (not sure if this was the actual wedding banns or one of the other pre-wedding events)

Now that you mention it.

I agree, Humera. I was a bit disappointed in Sofia's outfit. The color and style were boring, so it didn't allow her to stand out.

Victoria's dresses do look quite similar.
