Grand Duke Jean joined the Irish Guards [a regiment of the British Army] during World War II and saw action at Normandy, the Battle of Caen, and the liberation of Brussels. He attained the rank of lieutenant, then captain. He was promoted to colonel in 1984. He is also a Knight of the Garter. These two rankings put him to ride immediately behind the Queen during Trooping the Colour, with Prince Charles, Prince Phillip, and the Duke of Kent.

Lollies!

But does he often attend?I think he rarely attends, maybe sometimes.

I remember reading somewhere that Grand Duke Jean is no longer Colonel of the Irish Guards. I think he resigned from the regiment.

No, I'm pretty sure he's there nearly every year, and they also go to Royal Ascot.

Some pictures, in case you didn't believe me. :p

The first three are from Royal Ascot; the last two are from Trooping the Colour [in which you can see some of the Windsor family as well, and Felix with his glasses in the last picture].

Who is next to Henri in number 2?

Josephine-Charlotte's Health

It has been said that former Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte's health has seriously deteriorated. It is said that the worst could be expected. I am praying that she gets better. I heard this on the Benelux Royals Message Board.

yeah, i read it to. it was in a statement released by a court officer. i feel sorry for her and i will keep her in my prayers.

oh, and how stupid of me, i also feel sorry for her loved ones too and will also keep them in my prayers as well b/c i know what it feels like to have an ill close relative. it's both sad and hard.

Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte's Coat of Arms

Here are Her late Royal Highness's arms as a lady of The Order of the Elephant.

These are on display at Frederiksborg Slot chapel in Denmark.

I will try to scan a picture of her arms as a Lady of The Order of the Seraphim.

The arms are Luxembourg marshalled with Belguim.

Thanks Davo. I haven't really seen many of her arms before.

Grand Duke Jean, Grand Duke Henri, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, Guillaume and Felix attended a ceremony Wednesay (4/12/2005) at the Luxembourg Embassy in London to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the return from exile of Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg on 13th April 1945.

The family, representatives of the war veterans, and distinguished members of the Luxembourg community in Great Britain attended a lunch with Prince Edward.

The Luxembourg's government Web site has pictures and a story in French. :)
