Where is Saarland?
Apparently it's a German state, this is what the official website says:

"In the heart of Europe lies Saarland, a German state that has France and Luxembourg as its neighbors, in a "triangle of nations" also known as "Saar-Lor-Lux"

Fifth throne anniversary of Grand Duke Henri
Happy and less happy hours in 60 months of reign

Today five years ago, Hereditary Grand Duke Henri ascended the throne succeeding his father Grand Duke Jean.
"It will be an exchange in the continuity with our own style", had explained the Hereditary Grand Ducal couple Henri and Maria Teresa in an interview with the Luxemburger Wort.Since then five years have passed. A reason to look back at the first 60 months of Grand Duke Henri's reign.

Grand Duke Henro lead Luxembourg as sovereign in the 21st century. It has been a dignified throne achievement with the good participation of the population. Since the beginning the new sovereign showed himself as a human monarch and explained his engagement for the weaks in the society.

An impressive remembrance for many inhabitants of Luxembourg will be the 12 visits of the "Joyeuses Entrées" of the Grand Ducal couple in every anton of Luxembourg (Luxembourg, Esch/Alzette, Remich, Vianden, Mamer, Redange, Grevenmacher, Diekrich, Wiltz, Echternach, Mersch and Clervaux). On the national side as well as on the international side Grand Duke Henri fulfilled his duties during his five years of reign. Let's remember his annual presence at the National Day celebrations (22 and 23 June) or at this appearance at the National Remembrance Day in October. Granmd Duke Henri represnted Luxembourg internationally with the state vists in Spain, Slovenia, Danmark, Ireland, Italy and Slovakia such as a visit in the Vatican to Pope Jean-Paul II.

The death of his beloved mother Josephine-Charlotte on 10th January 2005 was for sure an arduous day in the life of Grand Duke Henri.

Reasons for celebratations were his 50th birthday on 16th April 2005 which he celebrate with his wife Maria Teresa and his five children. They can be pleased about the baby who will be born during next spring. Prince Louis, third oldest son of the Grand Ducal couple and his girlfriend Tessy Anthony are expecting their first child and are making the Grand Ducal couple to proud grandparents.

Henri and Maria-Teresa are still in Bulgaria; is it just in mu imagination or have they been a bit gloomy lately...?

-Lisa

with everything that's been happening to them over this year, i doubt they'd be giddy at all. perhaps they feel that they have very little to celebrate, especially considering the fact that they're gonna be grandparents next year by their 19 yr old son, a fact that'd definately have my parental units down in the dumps. hopefully we'll see them smiling again, and soon.

There are some old, old pictures in this week's Semana magazine, which features Louis's baby in three pages. The article is not much, but the sheer cultural value I'll try to scan the pics of Henri and M-T and send them somewhere. Boy, did they know in the 1980s how to dress :)

I totally agree. I like that outfit better than the black dress with the white trim she wore a little while back. It's much more her style.

She looks trim in the black with the fur trim. I think she is a very attractive woman (and nice to see a royal who isn't anorexic-looking or built like a model).

Shes a Latina of coarse shes gonna have curves. lol. Forgive my stereotyping if I offend anyone. But she is a very attractive royal for her age. I like that dress too, it is very elegant.

Okay, here are the pictures. The wedding pic you might have have seen; the big one has probably been taken before their engagement as M-T has no ring. For the hat picture - it was amazing how, in the early 1980s, even very young women were dressed like their grandmothers (just think of Diana). I'm old enough to remember Raisa Gorbachova, and she wore outfits like that, pre her western makeover... :( It's amazing how Henri has always looked exactly the same, the hair, the clothes, the smile... ;)

Of the baby in the last picture, I read an article about Louis somewhere, and it said he has always been a kind of clown in the family, and very much a clotheshorse, a dandy. The same article told that Tessy's dad is a socialist and apparently against the monarchy. And that M-T is 56 years old... :D

MT is only 49! Maybe they made some mistakes. But I did read in an interview a while back that MT called Louis the clown of the family, but a dandy?

yeah, i remember the 80's, scary times for fashion. i think mt still looks the same, except for a couple of small changes, a little weight-gain and her hair coloring. i've never heard of louis being a dandy or a clothes horse, but that was said of felix. and that bit about mt being 56 yrs old, lol. i hope they get some better sources, especially concerning their ages. poor mt, if the same was said about my mom, the adding of years instead of the taking away of,she'd blow a gasket, hehe.

wedding picture requests
