Princess Madeleine of Sweden and Christopher O'Neill: June 8, 2013

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I have to say, following a few others that have posted, I was not a big fan of Chris. In fact, I struggled to find anything in their pairing that inspired me to believe that they were in love and he was a good match for her. I don't find him attractive in any sense of the word, but that is my personal taste and has nothing to do with what others may see. To be honest....I kind of found him to be rather cold and arrogant. I struggled to find anything good to say so I thought best not to say anything.

That being said.....after seeing the emotion, happiness and joy on his face throughout the ceremony and how proud he was to show off his new bride....I am sold. He struggled to hold back his tears when he first saw her walking towards him and when hearing "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" sung. He again broke down when the Minister spoke to them about the importance of the little things in a relationship that make a marriage. He couldn't contain himself or hold back his affection each time he looked at her. I had tears in my eyes throughout the ceremony, not because it was a wedding....but because the beauty of the feelings displayed. THAT was pure naked emotion and showed me all that I missed from pictures and brief videos of this couple.

I am happy for Madeleine. I am happy for the Swedish Royal Family. I am happy to see that two daughters married men who on the outside may not be what we might view as the "right" kind of men to marry important royal Princesses, but on the inside are everything these Princesses need. :)
I have to agree. I had a lot of opinions of Chris before the wedding, many not very favorable, but after watching the whole thing on video last night, him tearing up so many times made me tear up as well. Very emotional and for me unexpected, but I loved seeing it.

at first congratulations to the couple :)
for me madeleine is the beautifullest royal bride wonderful

Has anyone seen the photo's of Prince Frederik at Princess Madeleine's wedding? Does anyone else think he appeared to be very slim; almost unhealthily so?

but he is certainly someone that likes to stay fit.
he has mentioned in a interview a while ago, that he feels like he is in the best shape since his Frogman days

Count me in. I guess it takes a lot for Chris to smile and show joy, and he had a good reason to on Saturday! I got the impression Madeleine is like an emotional anchor for him, which is good for a relationship.

It was the rehearsal dinner where all the ladies shined. There were some stunning and not so stunning dresses. Mrs O'Neil was sort of over the top in that hot pink w shoulder bow. And the spanish lady in the black see thru was a bit much and more suited to a Hollywood red carpet. I agree with everyone Charlene wore no jewels whatsoever (not even her wedding/engagement ring). You would have thought Caroline Hanover would have lent her a tiara since she really has no jewels of her own and usually borrowers them from Cartier etc. Maybe Albert thought she would take a powder if she had the royal jewels. The wedding was lovely and Princess Madeline looked like a fairy princess in Valentino. The fugliest dress was worn by Princess Mary who could not decide if she were going to wear a lace table cloth from Wal-mart or a matching bedroom curtain. Made her look Old. The Greek ladies are always put together. As for the guest from the white thigh high slit (worn by Angelina wanna be) to the proper attire worn by Sophie Wessex....it was a success.

Are there pictures of these anywhere?

Why didnt Willem Alexander and Maxima attend this wedding? I thought they were close to all this "young gang"..Maybe things change after accession. Who represented Dutch Royal Family?

The best of the wedding was watching the emotions play across the groom's face!

The cutest part of the wedding was baby Estelle in the background playing with her mother's while the couple said their vows! You can see her between their faces.

The King and Queen could not attend because they are now King and Queen. No one attended from the Dutch Royal Family.

I agree with you.

Count me in on that.

Matter of fact, when I saw the pic of him in his little uniform, my first thought was:

"Gee, Fred is starting to look a wee tad bit LONG in the tooth!"

That seems an odd choice to me; wedding songs are usually more romantic.

The oddest of all was hearing the crooning of "the first time ever I lay with you" from the song "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" during the church ceremony. I can respect the fact that Sweden is a country more liberal than most, but that was a bit.....much.

For me, it was the one cringe worthy moment during an otherwise lovely ceremony.

According to singer Peter Jöback, Chris O'Neill chose the song.

Did he? How lovely. He's clearly a man who has no problem expressing his feelings. The verse that begins with the words that made Moonmaiden23 cringe concludes:

"And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time, my love".

The song expresses deep, meaningful, love and commitment. I can think of no more beautiful words for a wedding.

I was wondering the same. Here in Finland the most of the priests are very strict with the song and music that may be performed at the church. From my friends weddings I know that much more discreet songs have been denied to have played at the church. I think most of the finnish priests wouldn't have let that song to be performed.

I loved just about everything of the wedding. Yes, some of the dresses worn by the ladies left much to be desired but to each his own. The wedding service was so beautiful filled with love and emotion and the Groom, he blew me away. A brand new person I saw. I certainly did not expect to see so much emotion from him. He crept into my heart and I was one who thought ' surely Madeleine could do better!' Three days later and I still cannot get enough of reading about the wedding. Now if only I can read the Groom's speech! A huge thank you to all who posted links about the wedding. Much appreciated.

About the music in the church: In many ways, this vigsel (the swedish name for the ceremony in the chucrh) was very much alike most other ones I've attended. I think I've ben to 40 or 50.

The ceremony follows a ritual that can be altered in some ways, but not in others. For example: you have to have at least two hymns. (They did, one in swedish and one in english). Besides that you can have a few other songs as well, of you own choice. The priests can say no to them, but they usually don't.

All this nit picking about a church wedding! At least they got married, which is more than most couples these days!
When they began to sing that song, I knew that Chris must have chosen it from his reactions in the church.
In America, we have everything from rockin' gospel music to guitar music to contemporary to classics. Music is just another way of communicating.

Yes. I was wondering about that too. I was surprised that a song like that would be allowed in a church wedding and I found myself cringing at some of the lyrics in the song. Im not saying that it is not a good song, I just thought it was inappropriate for a royal wedding. On the other hand, it was not a wediing like Victorias. It could have been a wedding of a friend, it was very low key. I do have to say that I was surprised to see the emotion that came from Chris considering he is usually very unemotional. He actually had tears in his eyes and he smiled so much I thought I would pass out from shock. He is definitely more handsome when he smiles. Do we know where they went for honeymoon.
