Even if Chris had been at the Nobel ceremonies he wouldn't have escorted Madeleine, he would have been seated next to princess Christina with husband and escorted some other female guest at the dinner, the same way Jonas was seated in 2009.

As for him being an "official person" because of his engagement to Madeleine as Herman Lindqvist claims, I think is totally wrong, he will be a member of the king's nuclear family as a son-in-law, but he won't have any role in the official royal family, the same way the husbands' of the kings three older sisters hadn't any role or reason to participate in official events. Tord Magnusson have had a bit of a different role, but that have probably more to do with the fact that princess Christina was the sole royal lady in Sweden for a couple of years, and the fact that they live in Stockholm (and also because TM enjoys the attention). I don't expect Chris to drop his job obligations every time Madeleine will make an appearance in Sweden after their marriage (he probably wouldn't have his job for long if he did that), unless he and Madeleine decide to move to Stockholm and live there after the wedding. Chris obviously isn't that interested in being in the media glare as a royal spouse, he reminds me of John Ambler than Tord Magnusson, so why don't let him be himself, he's getting married to Madeleine and be a good husband to her, not to please the entire Swedish population and the members of this forum.

According to swedish newspapers, Madeleine and Chris will attend at the weekend the wedding of Madeleine's friend Caroline Leksell. The celebrations last three days, the wedding will be held in the Alps.

The 39 years' old banker is used to decide for himself, I guess. What elements did he include in his thinking? the unpleasant curiosity/criticism of the Swedish press towards his possible responsibilities in not so appreciated banking practices (to which he reacted), the recent pressure from the paps in NY, the fact that the invitation to the Nobel celebrations came late according to a SE newspaper?? OR being nice to his beautiful fiancee, to his future in-laws?? making himself known and possibly appreciated??
I repeat what I wrote earlier to me the only time he seemed friendly was in the engagement video, but how natural was that?
OR simply a sign that his career is the essential thing for him. Made can expect some more criticism, I fear.

Princess Madeleine and Chris O'Neill at a wedding

Princess Madeleine and Chris O'Neill are at a wedding this weekend in St Moritz. It's Princess Madeleine's friend Caroline Leksell who is getting married. Princess Madeleine has also been skiing with friends.

It's nice that Chris could arrive to St. Moritz already on Thursday, since he couldn't attend the Nobels due to his work... Now when Madeleine, Chris, Jonas Bergström and Stephanie af Klercker are all as guests of this wedding, maybe they can discuss about their own wedding dates so that all of their friends can attend at both weddings.

At the blogpost there is a link to these photos from St. Moritz

Why should Madeleine be criticised for having a fiancé/husband who takes his work seriously? I think most Swedes would appreciate that a member of the extended royal family works hard and earns money to support his wife and future children, rather than having a "freeloader" who is more interested in attending royal events than work.

Of course it is respectable to take your work seriously. However, Chris arrived to St Moritz already in Thursday, so he missed working days due to this private wedding.

Madeleine and Chris were in a good mood when Expressen had a brief chat with them when they came out of the church.
- It was beautiful. Very beautiful, said the princess and whispered in fiancé's ear.
- It was really beautiful, said Chris O'Neill.
Next year it's their turn to get married. They did unfortunately not reveal any details about their plans.

Perhaps he had asked well in advance for time off for the wedding and the coming Christmas holidays, and felt that he couldn't ask for more days off from his employer, Americans don't have as many days off from work for holidays as we in the Scandinavian countries have.

The director of the court press department, Bertil Ternert, confirmed to finnish MTV3, that Chris will not attend with the royal family at the Swedish Academy's formal gathering on Thursday, Madeleine will attend. Ternert says that everything else Madeleine and Chris do in Sweden except Thursday is private and they won't comment it more.

Ok, it's just getting weird now. I understand him
not attending events with her when he has work and is in a different country, but not going when he's in Sweden with her and she's attending? Does this strike anyone else as quite odd?

Yes, but just how many events did Daniel attend during the 16 months he was engaged to Victoria? Not many at all. And Madeleine is not the crown princess. What I do think this shows is that Chris is not marrying Madeleine just because she's a princess but because he loves her.

But Chris and Sofia are treated so differently than Daniel, that we can not compare anything anymore with him, at least I think so. We have to also remember, that Daniel was recovering from his kidney transplant operation the rest of 2009.

If he doesn't even have a title or anything i don't understand why he should attend this official engagements. If he does get one he needs to partecipate. This leads me to think he won't have a title an will remain american.

I think the couple are sending a message that Chris will not necessarily be a part of his wife's official life which doesn't strike me as odd at all. Madeleine will undertake some official engagements turing those times she is in Sweden but Chris will not necessarily be there with her, perhaps only being there for important family events. Since they will mostly be living abroad anyway this shouldn't be that big a deal.

I actually find it kinda odd that he will not attend these official engagements. I think it would be nice for Chris to accompany Madeleine as Daniel accompany Victoria. Daniel was we enough to attend official engagements after his surgery, he was there beside Victoria.
