will be present ( some will be only for the opening ceremony)

will not be present

We don't know if the royal couple of Norway or the CP Haakon and Meet Maritt will be present

What a difference with London where all the royals with their children were present to the olympic games

Rio has problems of security, sanitory and there is the virus Zika which is very dangerious for the wifes in age to conceive

These games will not be very interessing for us royal readers
 
Has the attendance of the Spanish King and Queen been confirmed ,perhaps Queen Sofia or Infantas Elena/Pilar will attend?
 
There was a ceremony at the aeroport where the royal couple was present to support the spanish athletes, the king said that the royal family will watch the olympic games at the TV because the king has to stay in Spain because there is a problem to do the governement

I think also to the princess Elena , perhaps she did not want to go to Rio

Pilar is too old to do the travel, she is 80 and there are a lot of problems about sanitory and security at Rio
 
I've read in some media that Queen Sofia may attend some competitions, but that's just speculation so far, I'm afraid.

Nobody else is likely to attend, although Infanta Pilar, being a member of IOC, could consider to go, I guess.

indeed! it was good that london was almost next door to all the european monarchies and safe enough to bring children along. i guess the same happened in athens some years back where there was good royal representation. beijing, even though far, attracted a good crowd too.
 
Carlota, it is an observation and I am ol with you.
If there would be not the virus Zika, the sanitory , securaty problems , there would be more royal people at Rio.
The dates of the games are in the middle of summer, it is not very attractive for the royal to come to Rio

These Olympics sound like a disaster, though.
The pollution and filthy conditions are sure to cast a pall over everything.
I feel so sorry for the athletes who train so hard to compete, and then have to deal with something like this.

That The Olympics is very special for Frederik and Mary is clear, and they have attended all of them together since they met at The Olympics in Sydney 2000. BB have collected 35 lovely moments of F&M to the Games:

Grown ups made conscious decisions to participate. Thus, the individuals in question should be morally and physically ready to deal with adversities. No one was ordered to participate. Most of athletes do it for vanity and bigger contracts/endorsements.

On a different note ... Whining and complaining are the national sport of enlightened westerns.

I don't think it is whining and complaining to expect basic sanitation facilities.
 
I agree. If having the expectations of amenities that are above substandard levels is whining, I'd like some cheese with mine. :D
