I think it's a phoenix. Would go nicely with the overall theme.
The extinguishing of the Olympic flame begins.
Looks like Warren was right - they just turned off the gas. With a style.
And The Who are on the stage singing "Baba O'Riley".
God, I love them.

Makes sense now. I think the cauldron would have looked better like it was a few moments ago, layered not up right.
The Who, and the song from CSI.

Paul closed the opening ceremony. The Who are the final act.

Lovely touch having shots of the volunteer game makers. A brilliant performance from The Who

Elizabeth Windsor @Queen_UK
People are wondering where Paul McCartney is. One has three words: Tower of London

Roger Daltrey still has it in a way that Sir Paul McCartney just doesn't really.

Okay. It was a party for the athletes, it was not a closing ceremony for me. The best bit was The Who and the several athlete/gamemakers montages.
The athletes are the stars, they are the Olympics and I will miss watching it.
Roll on the Paralympic Games in 16 days!!!!
