The badges are first and foremost for identification, which is unnecessary for senior British royals who are in their own country.

Yes, I think the argument that the security rules don't apply to William and Kate when they apply to more senior British Royals (the Duchess of Cornwall), more senior foreign Royals (Albert, Charlene and all of the Crown Princely couples) and other country's VIPs (Mrs Obama), is insulting. David Beckham is probably as recognisable, if not more so, that William and Kate - do you think he doesn't need credentials either?
My reference to "lesser mortals" was tongue in cheek. I don't consider anybody to be a lesser mortal, royal or non-royal.
As for the the credentials being unnecessary for senior Royals, all of the British Royal Family, with the exception of the Queen and (I think) the Duke of Edinburgh, have been wearing them, so clearly they are necessary.

Do those girls know who is sitting between them? It looks like William turns his credentials around because he wore it that way in the Village, as well. What fun to have access to any sporting event they wish to attend!

The Prince, along with theDuchess of Cornwall attended the start of the men's road race at the weekend. Otherwise he has been carrying out "normal" royal duties that have not involved the Olympics.

Not sure where he is today but earlier in the week he was up in Scotland carrying out regular engagements. Life must go on even with the Olympics happening in London.

It's clear that the security rules don't, in practice, apply equally to everyone, and were never likely to. The Queen was accompanied by most of Locog, and the Olympic hierarchy on her visit to the park and at no stage was she asked to wear visible credentials. David Cameron didn't wear visible credentials, on occasions Boris Johnson hasn't either.
I have no doubt that members of the public will be required to wear their ID at all times. But who's going to go up to the Queen or the PM and tell them to wear those ugly lanyards or risk expulsion from the Park? Some VIPs obviously are happy to wear them, while others prefer not to. Chances are, if they're easily recognised, they're probably not going to be taken to task for it. Not really fair, but it's just the way things work.

It's also worth remembering that the earl of Wessex is patron of British Paralympics so the earl and countess will be attending many more events during the Paralympics. And I can bet that wills, Kate and co won't attend the Paralympics! Not nearly glamorous enough for them ;-)

ouch!
Will, Kate and Harry are the amassadors for the Paralympics as well as the Olympics. The original announcement stated they would be attending events of both games.

I suspect they will attend if only because the Paralympics generally receive very little media attention. Royal attendance may be the only thing that draws public attention to these games.

I'm heading out tonight so before I forget here's tomorrow's schedule for William and Kate
Duchess Izzie @DuchessIzzy " @britishroyals: William & Kate expected at Wimbledon tomorrow. Watch out for Murray vs Almagro match, starting 12 London time #olympics"
In the meantime Harry will attend a reception for the School Games medal winners in the morning at CH
