Royals Who Are Attending 2012 London Olympics

I don't think William and Catherine were being deliberately rude - that seems out of character to me. But part of recognition is expecting to see someone or recognition is instant because you know or have met them often. Neither of these really apply. The pic of Danial walking past is a good example. Imagine you are Catherine chatting away to your hosts or you husband and a dark haired man in glasses talking to his companion walks past. Instant recognition - I don't think so!

These 2 do not mix in royal circles outside of the BRF. They would probably recognise Fred and Mary but that's it. It's Edward and Sophie who have got to know them all really well. As for saying, they were at the wedding - well that is the only time they have met some of the royals and I doubt if the faces would have stuck in the memory banks. There was a lot going on that day.

My question is - is it all W&C's fault or should the other royal(s) have made the first move?

Or is this not really a story at all?

I was wondering... since we call Catherine with her full name, surely we should do the same with the heri to the Denmark throne and call him Frederik? Just asking... :flowers:

Why does every event that involves a gathering of royals turn into discussions of British royals isolating themselves or not being involved enough with their continental distant relations? The BRF is always represented at continental events and the continental royals always come to London for British royal events. It seems some posters get more offended than any of the participants themselves.
Not socializing regularly on the continent does not seem to impact on the popularity of the BRF at home, and that is of primary importance. I would wager a bet that senior royals being seen trotting off to every party on the continent would actually have a negative impact in the UK.
Anyway, this all has very little to do with who is or is not attending the Olympic Games in London which I thought was the point of this thread.
Since Queen Beatrix travels regularly to London to see Mabel & Friso do we expect her to show up to cheer on Dutch athletes? Do we expect the monarchs of Norway & Sweden to show up for the final week? What about Albert & Paola? What about the Asturias couple?

I have just never understood why on earth anyone should think that it's important or in any way beneficial for royals to spend time together. The UK and Sweden, Netherlands, Norway etc. are allies and have been for a long time. Those diplomatic relationships don't really need improving or developing as they're already strong.

The BRF clearly prefer to socialise with their own friends, as opposed to foreign royals. I fail to see what's wrong with that. Members of other royal families get invited to the big British royal events, and the Queen always sends one of her children to their royal events.

Victoria and Daniel were invited to William's wedding because it's what was expected. Had W & K had the option of inviting only those whom they're close to, it's very unlikely that they would've been there. It's hardly surprising that William doesn't recognise all the 2,000 guests that attended his wedding.

I'm not talking about diplomatic relations between countries.

In that respect the royals is a diplomatic tool for the politicians.

I'm talking about fostering a bond between people in a similar situation. Exchanging views and ideas, thinking outside the traditional box, learning from the experiences of others from the horse's mouth, rather than through the press or through councellors.
Chatting about something as crucial as how to prepare your children for their future role.
Royal spouses will find such exchanges extra beneficial, especially as the public can be very unforgiving if they make mistakes.

With all due respect for the BRF, there are not that many other royal families in Britain.
Who can say Kate go to if she has problems, ideas or would like to be inspired? Her husband? Only so far, as he was born into his role.
QEII? She is much older. Camilla? She's a generation older and what if they don't have a good rapport?
There are not that many.

Daniel on the other hand, has at least three other royal spouses in the exact same position as him, whom he can look to, ask for advise or went his frustrations with.

I gather Prince Albert & Charlene will attend the Red Cross Ball this evening, but I hope they will be back in the UK to cheer on their athletes -they are such a good couple to watch as they clearly love their sport. If they do return, I hope they bring Pauline to watch the diving & Charlotte for the equestrian.

That exactly who Kate should go to if she has a problem, Elizabeth, Camilla, Charles and her husband. With all do respect just because they are in the same position doesn't meant they are going through the same issue. Different countries, different culture, different issues, and different expectation.

We seem to be moving away from a discussion of who is in London to attend the Olympics and support their national teams.

William and Harry were just on the Australian Channel 9 Olympic coverage doing an interview, talking about the usual: their thoughts on the Games, the sports program they launched last week, Commonwealth nations. Although, according to William, Australia is dominating in the swimming (don't know what swimming program he's been watching, but okay).

I would guess the interview will turn up on the Channel 9 site within the next few days.

Friends , I have problem view the video of James Bond and Queen Elizabeth. Who can help me ?

Unfortunately, BBC quickly takes down those videos (for copyright reasons).

Look like Catherine, William and Carl Philip did greet each other Press Association Images

I think it's clear that W&M didn't really recognize Daniel or Carl Philip because honestly they probably don't know each other. Yes, Daniel attended William's wedding but there were something like 2000 guests so even if they met there is was probably very quickly and it was his wedding day I'm sure there was far too much to take in. William has never been in royal circles. I'm sure he's met at least all the reigning monarchs of Europe but he's not really close to any of them.

The BRF has warm but distant relations with their European cousins. That dates back to WWI when George V cuts ties to many of his relations to avoid embarrassment. Today it's really only the reigning monarchs of Europe that get invited to British events (e.g. weddings and funerals).

Although he doesn't often go to foreign Royal events, Prince Charles is well known and liked in Royal circles. He often invites foreign royal to Highgrove (during his Royal Visit to Sweden Queen Silvia had mentioned she visited Charles at Highgrove a few months before). Queen Beatrix used to attend shooting parties with Charles at Sandringham and I believe Queen Margrethe is the only person Charles will allow to smoke in his presence.

Hopefully as William and Catherine take on more duties they will get a chance to build relations with their cousins.

I think William, Harry & Kate finished shool and can read. You know all these people have ID's around their necks with pretty big "HRH Prince/Princess of this and that" that can be a very good clue about who it is. I don't think that Daniel & CP just run around them so they couldn't see it. They simply once again did not do their homework, not a surprise there though.

They represent the host country, so it would be polite to learn to recognize the dignitaries and other royals that sit at the VIP-box. And aren't they Olympic ambassadors?
Maybe Carl Philip decided to say Hello so strongly that William and Kate had to react to that? William seems quite astonished.

Maybe William is trying to keep Carl Philip away from Kate;)

Judging who said hello to whom from a few snaps seems to be a little absurd. To me, it looks as though the PM was snubbed:)

The whole BRF, politicians, and citizens of of GB are hosts,IMO and should put their best foot forward as much as possible.

There's a photo of William and CP talking, so why is this still an issue? Also, isn't it possible that they all saw each other earlier in the day and had already greeted one another? Not every moment of their lives is captured on camera.

All of this W&C meet CP&D seems like much ado about nothing. Their purpose for being there was to cheer on the athletes which they all seem to have done.

That's what I got out of that picture too (and Wills' priceless facial expression) :D. Perhaps Carl-Philip said something shocking ;).

I think people are making a big deal out of nothing. As someone pointed out, the posters on here are more upset about the 'snub' than the actual people involved. I think it's very possible that they saw each other prior to the event, and exchanged greetings then, choosing to let Daniel and Carl-Philip to say 'hello' to others, or just settle in before the match, without bothering about social niceties. Not at all surprised by the warm greetings between the Swedish princes and the Wessexes, since they've met on several occasions before, while the Cambridges may have only met them once, and most likely very briefly (if at all) on the day of their wedding. Now, when you have a couple of thousand people attending your wedding, it's not a shocker that you'd only be able to say 'hello' to a small handful and since it's your wedding, you're not going to be thinking about whom you just spoke to, be it a Crown Prince of Sweden or a cousin that you just spoke to last night.

I hope not! I was referring to CP's hunkiness:flowers:

To add to hunky royals who are attending, I never knew Prince Felix of Lux was so gorgeous!

Sorry, that picture is not a proof.
If you look closer, you will notice that Daniel is passing the man in the red T-shirt. As such William and Harry are both looking past Daniel.
Well Harry is for sure looking past Daniel but I don't see how we can be certain that William didn't see Daniel and smile at him. Since they're both smiling at the same time. I dunno how this picture proves that William was looking past Daniel just cause Daniel was passing the guy in the red shirt. Plus I doubt a few pictures can tell us whether or not the BRF's snubbed the Swedes. After all a picture is a snapshot taken within a second so who knows they may have spoken right before that photo was taken. I mean really unless we see video or were there ourselves. we'd never know for sure. JMO

And didn't do their hw? I dunno bout you but the credentials is not the first place I'd look when someone is speaking to me.

Kate was out this morning to watch Jessica Ennis in the heptathlon and then moved over to watch field hockey GB vs Pakistan. She is to meet up with William to watch swimming to root on GB's Rebecca Addington. Did William and Harry make to the dressage like they were scheduled for ? I can't see them as big dressage fans. I saw photos of Princess Bea & the Prince of Orange there.

William and Harry just gave an interview to the BBC in their studio. I have to say they come across as two really nice chaps, my parents were watching it with me and they felt they came across really, really well. I believe they're giving an interview to Canadian TV also.

Just spotted Danish CP Frederik passing out the medals at mens track cycling.

He is a member of the IOC. Princess Haya gave out the medals at gymnastics yesterday as well.

What a good interview with William & Harry - they are so at ease with this kind of media and clearly relishing the Games. Loved all the highlights which were played out during the interview too.

Lovely interview from William and Harry with Sue Barker of the BBC - natural, warm and very charming. I like they way its just plain William and Harry during interviews and its clear the brotherly affection between the pair they just love to joke with each other.

In the velodrome tonight watching GB dominate are Prince Michael of Kent, Princess Anne and Tim and Sophie Wessex
