Queen Elizabeth attended her first official engagement of her Diamond Jubilee year today, February 3, 2012!

Accompanied by the Princess Royal as Patron of the Woodland Trust's Jubilee Woods Project the Queen planted
an oak on the Sandringham estate that will be a focal point of the new 20-acre Jubilee Wood project which aims
to plant six million native British trees to mark the jubilee.

"It is terribly bleak here - there is nothing between here and Siberia," the Queen commented

This should be in the Diamond Jubilee thread. Given that the celebrations have now officially begun, could the thread be opened?

Some of the artists for the Diamond Jubilee concert have been announced.

The concert will include classic hits and one-off collaborations from artists including Shirley Bassey, Alfie Boe, Jools Holland, Jessie J, JLS, Elton John, Tom Jones, Lang Lang, Annie Lennox, Madness, Paul McCartney, Cliff Richard and Ed Sheeran. Other names will be announced in due course.

The concert will be held on the Mall in front of the Victoria Memorial as previously reported.

Further info on tickets etc here:

.

Prince Radu writes on his blog that the Romanian Royal Family will be represented by TM King Michael and Queen Anne during the Jubilee celebrations. So I assume that other members of reigning and non reigning families will be there, too.

Guernsey Post Stamps Commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee

GUERNSEY POST TO CELEBRATE DIAMOND JUBILEE

Guernsey Post stamps will be releasing a commemorative issue for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on 22 February 2012. Guernsey Post has chosen to highlight some of the events which have taken place since the Queen came to the throne with a set of six stamps, a souvenir sheet, presentation pack and first day cover.

Each stamp depicts two images, reflecting her family and public life, including the Queen in her Coronation crown, made in 1661 for the coronation of King Charles II, together with Prince Charles admiring his baby brother, Prince Andrew, in 1960 (36p).

On another stamp (52p) the Queen is shown taking the salute during Trooping the Colour in London in 1983, whilst the image on the right is of two of Her Majesty’s grandchildren, Prince William and Prince Harry, at Wetherby School on 12 September 1989, taken on Prince Harry’s first day at school.

Also marking two separate occasions the Queen is pictured with her mother and President Nelson Mandela of South Africa: it was the Queen Mother’s 100th birthday on 4 August 2000, and, in the previous year, President Mandela was pictured at the beginning of his State Visit to Britain in July 2009 (61p).

Completing the set of six stamps are images which include The Queen presenting the Jules Rimet trophy to Bobby Moore following the team’s victory over West Germany in the World Cup final in 1966 (47p); The Queen in a turban-style hat for an official occasion (48p); and an image of Her Majesty which was taken during her visit to Guernsey on Liberation Day, on 9 May 2009, marking 60 years since the Channel Islands were freed from Nazi occupation (65p).

Very lovely photo. Thank you for sharing. I've never seen their NZ orders before.

This should be interesting. I'm not a huge Webber fan, but considering that he has multiple productions running on Broadway and West End, we can probably expect something grand and majestic, which does indeed befit the atmosphere of the Jubilee.

This will need to be moved to the 'Jubilee' thread. William wants to see some US rap artists take the stage at the Diamond Jubilee Concert in June. I'm not a fan of rap, but I can understand the move; I would say he wants the concert to appeal to all tastes.
