MUSTIQUE AIRPORT

Only propeller planes are able to land apparently. No private jets - the runway isn't long enough.

Wednesday nights on Mustique, people are drawn to Basil's Bar for the weekly "Jump Up" - live music and fun. Some photos of Basil's.

Hi muriel.

I posted about the Mustique villas that William and Catherine have been reported as staying at - under the "Residences" thread - a few days ago.

I've been having a period of interest in buildings and architecture lately.

I've recently posted about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor's French house The Mill, and about the Chateau de Cande where they wed.

Also about an historic house in Tasmania that the has hosted Royals several times.

I did a post about the Danish Royal's French home, the Chateau de Cayx, Princess Margaret's Mustique house and the Queen Mum's private Castle of Mey - so I've really been into it.

Great fun - a bit of vicarious escapism for me.

Anyway, the Mustique villas of the Cambridges has been merged into this thread - so it's come alive again, but no, they're not anywhere near Mustique at the moment.

Hi Dman - yes, great pictures and the video of the island was wonderful, very appealing - wish I was there.

Seen on Twitter this evening that the Cambridges and the Middletons were spotted in St Lucia getting off a flight and onto a private plane ...perhaps headed to Mustique?

Perhaps. I wish they would’ve taken me along. I desperately need a vacation. It’s been a tough year so far. If true, I hope they have fun.
 
Yes I hope they do too...I don't think they've been since 2015 when Kate was pregnant with Charlotte.

Oh! They are near me....I live in Barbados! Fantastic time to be in the Caribbean guys! Except for the potential hurricanes that is! But none on the horizon here!

This may be a stupid question but shouldn't the Cambridges be using separate planes? Air travel is generally safe but tragedies still happen and we have the 5 Cambridges flying together.
 
I don't think they've done separate planes for decades. IIRC it was news when William flew on the plane with his parents to Australia because they were on the same plane.

There are plenty of folks in the line of Succession if something tragic happens.

I don’t think the separate planes will happen until George gets older. The Queen gives permission for William and George to fly together. Charles and William last flew together when William was in his teens.
 
I hope the Cambridges have a nice time on their holiday and that they can be relatively undisturbed by the press. This will be little Louis's first time in Mustique (and I presume abroad given that he's only a few months old), if that is where they are headed to!

Lots of photos on the many public "Mustique" instagram accounts on the internet, of the various activities held on the island last week for the celebration of the 50th - photos and videos.

Fireworks, art auctions, special craft market, beach picnics, group photocalls, a white-themed party, re-launching of a re-vamped "Basil's Bar".

And some references to the royal couple, from people there - in general terms.

(Also, lots of media reporting they will be back in time to attend the wedding in Churt, Surrey this Saturday.)

Not all rental villas on the island fit this description - so maybe they stayed at "Plantation House".

Price for July, pool size and number of bedrooms all fit, plus it's up on a hillside and more private.

A very nice video of "Plantation House" - if it's ever confirmed that they did indeed stay here.

And that's Princess Margaret's villa "Les Jolies Eaux" on the headland, (where the pool is visible, the roof of the house is dark), and just behind her house, "Obsidian" which was Lord Litchfield's, (again with a dark roof, so not standing out, but just up the hill from Margaret's.)

Makes perfect sense, the kids will have finished school and its a few days before most state schools finish this Friday or sometime next week (though I'm sure W&K aren't worrying about the rise in prices for flights during peak holiday time lol)

Must be nice for some! The Cambridges are lucky not to know the hassle of trying to book a holiday earlier to avoid higher costs and fitting it in with work or school schedules at the same time :lol:
I hope they have a lovely time in Mustique.
 
I can imagine that the Cambridge kids are going to have a blast. There's nothing like summertime and being on the beach, swimming in the water and collecting sea shells and building sand castles. I wonder if any of their sand castles will resemble one of Gan-Gan's castles? :D
