I think its a legit question Skippy...you aren't being lynched.

I also think that William has good relationship with his Spencer aunts. I am not sure they are as close as they were as children because of his royal lifestyle. Away at boarding school, college, military life, etc.

That being said he does have a good relationship with Camilla. She is his father's wife. The Spencer aunts will be there, etc. Its all good.

Actually I love when questions and thoughts come out that make us think.

It *is* going to be all good. I think William and Kate both are really putting a lot of thought into what goes on for their day (as in William stating down under that he's missed a week of wedding planning) and are taking special pains to make sure everyone feels a part of their day and that no one will be excluded. That's just the kind of folks they are.

We have to realize that of course Diana is going to be a big part of anything that is wedding related and I'm sure William is appreciative of that but I don't think he'd ever want anything to detract from the importance of the other people that are just as important in his and Kate's lives.

I think also that it is really fitting for the parents of the couple to all ride together back to BP. It kind of denotes that all 4 of them are equally important to the bride and the groom.

I know I asked this question before but the thread kind of got off on Diana tangent... about the bridal procession. We know that Kate will be escort to the altar by her father but what about the seating of the other parents? Will Carole be escorted by an usher and if so, will Camilla then be escorted by an usher with Charles in tow? This may be where we see the Spencer boy and Wills friend that are rumored to be ushers? I know in both cases where I was mother of the groom, the mothers and step mothers were escorted by an usher with their respective spouses in tow.

I think Miss Midleton will arrive with her son. It was like this at Charles and Diana's Wedding. But they Spencer Family arrived quiet some time before the Royal Family even some of the guests arrived after them.
And Camilla will most likely arrive with Charles.
What i wonder will the seating direct before the Altarlike at previous royal Weddings or down the steps like like at the funeral of the Queen Mother and the Queen's diamond Wedding.

Oh well done! Full marks for wit on that one LOL!!!

I think that is in error.

I am looking at my copy of Royal Romances: Angus and Alexandra, and there is a picture of her in the Rolls with her brother, Prince Michael of Kent. Let me see if I can find my copy of the biography on her.

ETA: Okay, I found my book. It looks like Alexandra took the open topped Rolls to Westminister Abbey on the way to the service. Following the ceremony, she and Angus than rode in the glass carriage from the Abbey to St. James's Palace. There is a picture of her riding in it with Angus in the book Alexandra by Paul James. Its also worth noting that the Queen also hosted and paid for a ball a couple of days before Alexandra's wedding. So she has done this a couple of times in the past and not just for her children.

thank you Zonk
I know that I've seen the picture from her arrival.

I assume you meant Mrs. or Ms. Middleton, as Miss Middleton would either be Kate or her sister, neither of whom have a son I know of.

And I think the poster meant not how they will arrive, transport, but escorted into the cathedral. Like will it be part of the procession, like mother of the brides are sometimes escorted in before the bridesmaids, and will it be done with the ushers we have heard rumors of? I assume we'll see the ushers, but it will be well before the procession. It is pretty likely guess she will come to the church with her son. Pippa will be with the wedding party, and Michael with his daughter.

I think that having one of Diana's sisters to ride along in the carriage instead of Camilla would infer that one of Diana's sisters has been acting as a kind of guardian or "second mother" to William which I don't think is the case. Whatever Camilla's relationship is with William, she is at the very least his step-mother and being the wife of his father it just makes sense that she rides with him. Had William lost BOTH his parents, it is conceivable I imagine that one of his aunts or uncles (from either side of the family) would have acted as his guardian and would therefore be riding in the procession.

I don't know about royals, but it is not that uncustomary for there to be an acting mother of the bride or groom. It doesn't infer they were guardian, but a special role in the life of the bride or groom. My maternal grandmother died when my mum was 10. Her dad remarried when she was 21, but my mum married at 19. Oddly enough it was her older sister's mother in law who served as acting mother of the bride. She had stepped up and helped plan the wedding, and been there for my mum. To the day she died, we called her Grannie.

But I assume if my grandfather remarried before my mother married, my Grams would have filled the role. I was born well after my grandfather remarried, so I refer to his second wife as my grandmother. I think it definitely more fitting Camilla ride in the carriage. Not because it would infer an Aunt was his guardian, but because Camilla is Charles' wife. She has been accepted by his sons as a member of the family. If Charles was single, I could see one of the sisters being a part of it, no matter what their closeness may have been. But since Charles is married, no. I am sure his Aunts, and even Uncle with all the issues, will be in attendance. And if rumors are true, the earl's son will be an usher.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh rode in the Gold State Coach too and from her coronation, not a carriage.

I know that, and that's what I said. My post was in response to Mirabel saying that if it rains on April 29th, William and Catherine will leave the Abbey in the Glass Coach. So I said it's the same thing that the Queen and DoE traveled in for her coronation.

Thank you SO much, Zonk!

I for one am sick of all the Diana conjecture. Let the woman rest in peace -- and let the living live their lives in their own way, and without the endless comparisons.

We could all do our part by refusing to post or read about Diana. The references to her would then probably die down.

It was the same carriage...

Thanks for clarifying, but your post suggested that the Queen used the same coach, which as we know, she most certainly did not.

You meant the type of (glass) coach, it would seem.

I doubt if that's going to happen and I personally don't think it should. It would be rather strange given that she is William's mother. It's one thing not to let everything be about Diana and quite another to have her ignored.

Wanna bet on that? :ROFLMAO:

As most of us here on TRF acutely remember Diana's life and foibles and accomplishments and the importance she is in William's life, its only natural that she'd be thought of as her son marries. Diana is very much still a big part of William's life... it is reflected in who he is, his mannerisms, his empathy and how he presents himself. Along with that though there is a lot to be said about how much he is like his father, his grandmother and all the people close to him. That's what we need to remember.

I do think however as the world watches William and Catherine marry and gradually make their own mark in the world's view that they will be honored, respected and even loved for exactly who they are... themselves.

I agree it would be odd to totally not talk about Diana. Why the Diana comparisons are sometimes tiresome and unnecessary, not talking about her is ignoring her place in William's life.

For me, I mention the Charles and Diana wedding because that is the first royal wedding I have ever seen on television and so its my first official point of reference. Its not until others who are fans of other royals that you learn, for example, that Alexandra of Kent did Kate before Kate! A Rolls to the church and a ride in a carriage on the way home. Who knew?!

That being said, I am sure as we get closer the Diana comparisons will become more so but I think at the end of the day...it will be about William and Catherine.

Well said Zonk!!

BTW...It's been driving me nuts, but who is the Bride in your avatar. I'm thinking I *should* know, but I can't figure out who it is.

Maybe you alredy know it but I read on a french website that Paris Hilton is doing all that she can to get an invitation to William and Kate's wedding.
She says that she has a lot of admiration for Diana, that's why she absolutely wants to go to the wedding. I personnally think that she wants to show herself, as usual! I can't imagine what she would be wearing if she was invited...
I know this post is not really linked to the wedding itself but this new made me laugh, that's why I wanted to share it with you. :flower:

What intrigues me is where Diana would have sat in the Abbey. ;) As William's mother, I assume that she would have sat near Prince Charles. But where would that put Camilla? Would she sit perhaps near the Princess Royal, the Duke of York, and the Wessexes? Or would she have sat with the Kents and the Gloucesters, given that she has no natural relation to William?

I do agree about a "united front." They even managed to do that on public or semi-public engagments when they were separated and divorced.

It's an interesting thought.Either seperate carriages or hopefully Diana and Charles would have burried the hatchet long ago, and could be seen in public as a unified front when necessary.

Well, they appeared together at William's confirmation. Say what you want about them as individuals they were TOGETHER good parents.

Who knows where she would have sat. We could speculate on that for days.:whistling:

Paris Hilton has as much chance getting to this wedding as I do. ZERO.

And yes, Wymanda is correct...it is Lady Sarah Armstrong Jones...I tend to favor the lesser known royal ladies of the BRF (not counting the Yorks). I thought Lady Sarah looked fabulous on her wedding day..and my avatars are usually done by Princess Robjin, Iceflower, Her_Majesty, or Lady K...I can't figure out how to do them myself ;)

LovelyKate...I love your avatar. Oh...the great Elizabeth Taylor RIP.

I remember them as well appearing for VJ Day, when they shared a peck on the cheek. There must have been something for VE Day as well, although what I remember most is the Queen Mother, The Queen, and Princess Margaret on the balcony at BP. Charles and Diana were both at the D-Day celebrations, and they together attended something naval. It was a windy day and Diana's skirt kept flying up and she had to hold her hat on.

Who knows where she would have sat. We could speculate on that for days.:whistling:

Yes, and isn't it fun?!;):)

As I do and Thank God for that!! Knowing Little Miss Look At Me, she'd wear something that would completely overshadow the Bride.

And that's the reason why I should have realized who that was, as Lady Sarah's Wedding Dress is one of my very favourite Royal Wedding Dresses of the last few years. It was one of two tied for my all time favourites w/Crown Princess Mathlide's. That is, until last June and Crown Princess Victoria's made it a three way tie. :D And yes, Lady Sarah did look stunning on her special day.

I've made them for my LiveJournal account and they aren't that hard to do actually. So long as you've got a good Photo Editing program that is. The software that came w/my first digital camera is what I use and still do today.

LovelyKate...I love your avatar. Oh...the great Elizabeth Taylor RIP.

Yes indeed. We lost a true Legend today w/her passing.

I would see no reason why Camilla wouldn't still have sat next to Charles - he has two arms - one for the ex-wife and one for the present one.

I tend to agree. If Diana had remarried, I assume her new husband would be relegated to another section though, away from the royals.

from the official royal wedding site
The Royal Wedding

Will Catherine become Princess Catherine?
Technically not - her title after marriage is yet to be announced.

Will Catherine become an HRH?
Yes.

I don't know about that though. If Diana has remarried, her spouse would then be William's stepfather. Its just another one of those hurdles that doesn't have to be jumped as it never happened.

Diana would not be seated with Charles because she was no longer a member of the royal family...she would be seated with the Spencer family, most likely opposite the royal family, and as a result they would be seated close to the alter...

In terms of "family positioning" as it relates to the wedding if she were alive the difficulty in finding a "location" for Diana or Camillia in regards to William's or Charles' vicinity would arise during the family photos after the wedding ceremony

Okay its time to move from the specualtive discussion.

Diana is dead.

Let's focus on William and Catherine.

So we've had alot of discussion about the dress and the cars and carriages, what about the venue itself Westminster Abbey? In times gone by a kind of enclosed awning used to be put up outside the the West Door entrance to the Abbey creating a kind of corridor effect. For Andrew and Sarah's wedding, the awning was more open - kind of like the one used for Haakon and Mette-Marit's wedding. I suspect the same thing will be used for William and Kate.
As for the flowers, I keep reflecting on the Scandinavian royal weddings where the floral decorations seemed to be very modern and structural - with plenty of greenary and subdued neutral tones. I'd like it if William and Kate to choose a similar idea - something dramatic in design but traditional in the flowers. I've heard no word about who is doing the flowers and wonder if some will come from Highgrove?!

I have absolutely no clue as to what flowers Kate even prefers. One thing I would bet on though is that it will contain a sprig of myrtle from Queen Victoria's garden. Can't remember where I read it but there will be several bouquets made up for this wedding just in case something should happen.
