Excellent post! I think that William is a great advocate for this cause, because this is a man who has a heart, and is not afraid to use it. Like up you, I've been bullied, but not just in school, but also at university, and beyond. There's a big difference between lighthearted teasing that William, and Harry engage in, and malicious, hurtful comments made by classmates, roommates, teachers, relatives, etc. I'm also beyond thrilled to have His Highness as my voice, because more often than not, victims of bullying are ignored, and told that it's just a part of life, to suck it up, and deal, and worst of all, have blame placed on them. I almost committed suicide in high school, because of what was done to me, so to those who choose to see bullying as character building exercise, stop, and think before speaking. For more in-depth discussion regarding this issue, please see the thread titled 'Bullying' in the 'Members' Corner'.

I have SpLD's and am physically disabled. My siblings never teased or joked about it because they witnessed some of the bullying and the impact it had on me. The person at the recieving end of it surely is best placed to say whether they feel or believe themselves to be bullied or not? ' I may not like what you have to say but I will defend to the death your right to say it ' Voltaire.

Tommy100, I appreciated your compassion and insight towards the neurodiverse community. That is what I took from your post.

We all know what bulling is. William and Harry having fun at each other's expense is not bullying. Its good natured and does not have an aggressive element to it.
:previous: I've heard each making fun of the other in the past. Harry goes after William for his hair loss and "dull life." William teases Harry about his girlfriends.

Each takes turns teasing the other, but AFAIK have been supportive too.

To me, the bantering and teasing remarks between the brothers are kind of endearing. I always thought that these teasing remarks made in public and in most cases, made the press or video clips was something the brothers do when they're away from each other and sends the message "I'm thinking of you".

I think the funniest one I've seen is when Harry was running a foot race in Africa (can't remember the charity offhand but I want to say Tusk or Lesotho) and as the race started, he held a face mask in front of his face that had a picture of William on it.

It got to a point with me that I started to look for those little messages and digs. It was just something they do and I could imagine the brother on the receiving end of the dig grinning his head off. I never saw it as being mean or degrading or anything in a negative connotation but showed the closeness the brothers share.

As the brothers got older and their lifestyles changed and their obligations took them in different directions, it made me smile to know they were thinking of each other. :D

As far as Charles goes, I loved the one liner he said when Will and Kate got engaged. "They were practicing long enough".
:previous: Excellent post.

After looking at that how could you call the man a bully? Don't see any bullying there. If that's your definition, you really need a new dictionary.

Gah! I want them teaching where I work. I can see William getting a kick out of G's love for Elmo, and 'Wiggles', and amusing the kids during my sessions with all the toys that are kept in the room. No, the man is not a bully. Kids are intelligent beings, and can tell if someone is sincere or not, and if William was insincere in any way, shape, or form, the kids won't want anything to do with him. Plain, and simple.

I promise, you'll be the first to know if anything like what I've described takes place :D.

Thank you! Hopefully, I'll be told waaaaaay in advance. I know the general public can't be told ahead of time- but hopefully I fall in the VIG - Very Important Guest category- ( besides HRH of course) and you can persuade his office to issue me a special invitation so I can come! :D

I take it that this support system is the idea that everyone should have 5 people to go to in case of bullying. I have to hand it to William. He's got a very strong support system and it brought a smile to my face to read that Lupo is included. Man's best friend and best example of unconditional love and never ever tells your secrets to anyone.

Perhaps some will think that naming Lupo is nothing but a cute idea but I see it as a very good thing. Many times a child just can't feel he can talk to anyone and with talking it out to a beloved pet, it does get out and that's a whole lot better than holding things in and letting them fester.

Prince William has revealed he would always turn to his family in times of difficulty. The father-of-two shared a list of the five people he would look to first for support during an official engagement at Hammersmith Academy on Monday.

As one might expect, William's wife the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, made the list, along with his brother Prince Harry, with whom he has a close relationship. The 33-year-old also listed his father Prince Charles and grandparents the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh as his support network, with one surprising name rounding off William's list – his pet dog, Lupo.

That is so awesome! I love the hand with the 5 fingers for 5 people you can tell. Oh if we had done this at my school. At my school we were told who not to tell. Oh well, at least it's over now, and I am healing, and I have 5 people I can tell.
I love who William chose- including the dog.
If I had a hand William would be one of my 5- seriously.

Second- I love that article, and the photos of William being... William. This man will be a great King. Hopefully, he and I can have a Conversation like that someday.

The light, fluffy picture story today was Prince William naming his support network but I think history will record he spoke up for LGBTs.

Video:
The Duke of Cambridge has visited a school in west London to support of an anti-bullying campaign run by an organisation set up in memory of his mother. The Diana Award's Anti-Bullying Ambassadors programme provides the opportunity to learn how to recognise signs of bullying and encourage victims to seek help and speak out about their concerns. Prince William joined more than 50 young people at Hammersmith Academy as they took part in a training session-

I was trying to decide if I thought Richard Palmer was calling today light and fluffy but has serious undertones and will be remembered for much more... or if was saying the press office would make more of this event than actually happened.

and then I saw the Express headline..... and his takeaway was all about the posh - pity. William I thought made a very good effort to relate to the kids that your "high 5" should be those close to you - that you can trust...even putting in his dog. He didnt say the Queen, the said 'grandmother'.

Exactly Michelle. And he can't help that his family is posh. I mean.. he should have the same right to put his family on there as everyone else. Just that his family happens to be royal!

Today's event received major coverage. BBC, Sky News and ITV all had crews covering it and the CEO of the Diana Award was on ITV News at 6 pm to talk about William's involvement with their anti-bullying campaign.

He put down people who the kids would of put down: best friend (Kate), sibling (Harry), parent and grandparent. He used father and grandmother not HRH Prince of Wales or HM The Queen. Even Lupo is a good choice that the kids can relate to.

One of the most irritating aspects of UK Press is that the writer of the piece and the headline writer are different people. this is a perfect example of the story and the headline not matching.

I though Richard wrote a good piece and I'd like to kick the headline writer and the editor who approved the headline.

Moral of reading Uk press is read the story and don't rely on the headline.

Right, I too liked Richard's article.

Prince William revealed the five people – and one precious pup! – he would turn to in times of trouble.

The prince, 33, visited a bullying prevention workshop on Monday at Hammersmith Academy in London to highlight the work of the non-profit Diana Award, set up in his late mother's name.

Taking part in a "high-five" exercise in which he was asked to name his five key supports, he wrote, "Catherine, Harry, Father, Grandmother and Grandfather" – and cocker spaniel Lupo for good measure.

The school's training day focused on practical ways kids can tackle cyberbullying and LGBT bullying, an issue that William has taken on increasingly.

This engagement was an absolute success. The hand withe the names of people you can come to if you're being bullied is a gem. Those who are bullied often feel alone (I speak from experience), and are too scared to confide in anyone. The hand is a reminder that there are people who will listen, and help those who are being victimized feel empowered. William's choices of a support network are great, especially his grandmother, and his dog. People underestimate the comfort animals can bring to a person in pain. Like you, I'd list William on my hand too. The man listens with his heart. I would feel that he is genuinely interested, and would use whatever I choose to share to help someone else. That makes me feel like my own pain was worth it, especially if my experience can make someone else's pain more bearable. I hope someday you and I will be able to have that kind of Conversation with William. I can't think of a better person, well maybe along with another individual.

Not at all surprised by who he chose. All Family, including the Furry Four Legged Member. :)

Exactly!! There were days for me, when the only one I told anything to about the Hell School had been for me that day, was my cat Puss Puss. Mom and Dad were also going through their own form of Hell fighting w/the School over both what the Kids and Teachers were dishing out to me daily. Because of that, there were days when I just could not add on to the stress they were going through. So I talked to the only one I knew would both listen and also never tell a soul what I'd said. I know there were times when talking to my Beautiful Boy literally kept me sane and/or hanging on by the edges of my fingernails.

He crossed The Rainbow Bridge nearly ten years ago and do I miss him. So, to me, William naming Lupo among his Big Five of Support People is just perfect sense to me. :)
