Good to see William taking on some of these overseas events (other than the jolly royal tours)

All official overseas visits are undertaken at the request of the government. In the case of one of Her Majesty's realms, it's at the invitation of the Prime Minister.

Justin Trudeau invited the 2nd in line to the Canadian throne to visit Canada and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge accepted the invitation.

William and Catherine are as much a part of Canada as they are a part of the UK

The Duke of Cambridge will meet Chancellor Angela Merkel for the first time at a gala in Germany tonight.

William, who is visiting Dusseldorf for a series of events honouring the role of British armed forces based in Germany, is set to attend a ceremony with the German stateswoman on Tuesday evening.

The gala will mark the 70th anniversary of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia – which was created by the British military government in 1946 after the Second World War.

Saw it live on television. Moved to tears by the beauty of the ceremony, the speeches and the wonderful pieces of music by Schuman, Handel and Beethoven! People were so happy and proud that the Duke was there, too!

Twitter is now lighting up about Will's comments on the future of the UK/Germany relationship. It was not a neutral statement, though saying "We just wanna be friends" is not that shocking.

It's good that he's extending a diplomatic hand post Brexit. The royals are used for diplomacy.

Diplomatic events such as this is going to play a big part in his future roles and he seems to really be getting comfortable with doing it. I think he did a fantastic job with the speech he made and reinforced the belief that no matter what happened politically, the UK/German alliance will remain strong.

I agree it was not a "neutral" statement, but his carefully chosen words would have been cleared with the FO / NO 10 beforehand.

His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge has visited Dusseldorf to witness a series of events to mark the 70th Anniversary of the formation of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) was established on 23rd August 1946 by the British Military Government, following the end of the Second World War, and for almost 70 years a large British military presence remained in the region playing a pivotal role during the Cold War and in the reconstruction of its area of occupation. At its peak the British component based in Germany numbered almost 200,000 people.

I would be surprised if they words were not suggested by the government. This is a very clear case of royals being used as "soft diplomacy weapons" to build bridges and smooth ground for politicians. This is a big part of the royals role, being "ponds" of the government at the time.

Prince William has sympathised with “distraught” Great British Bake Off fans – but said the show will be just as good on Channel 4.

The Duke of Cambridge revealed he has watched the hit TV show, which this week announced it will move from its BBC home to Channel 4 next year.

He today visited a youth club in Wandsworth where youngsters took part in a class to learn how to pipe vanilla butter cream onto cupcakes.

The future king tried out his cake decorating skills and said: “Mary Berry, eat your heart out – look at that.”

He turned to Patricia Nunoo, 17, a volunteer at the Caius House youth club, and said: "Not quite as elegant as yours, but it's a start."

Dancing With the Stars, take note!

Prince William stepped up to a dance challenge, trying out a new move during a visit to a youth center in London on Wednesday.

"I can never get the shoulder shiver right!" William said as he pleaded for some help with one of the moves perfected by the dance troupe, Scariofunk Dance Collective.

The relaxed royal proved he wasn't afraid to look a little silly during the impromptu performance.
