“The unlikely pair sat together in an executive box at Villa Park in April as Carew’s former club beat Cardiff City. The Duke of Cambridge jumped for joy and hugged the ex-Villa striker when Jack Grealish fired in a spectacular late winner.

And Carew explained how they first became pals.

“He was in Norway a few months ago and I got invited to a royal dinner at the castle with other ambassadors of sport,” he said. “I did well in my home country, you know!”

The Prince is a huge football fan and a staunch supporter of the claret and blues.

“He’s a big football enthusiast,” explained Carew on Soccer AM. “We spoke about football a lot, mainly Villa because he’s a huge Aston Villa fan.

“We decided to go and support our team before the end of the season. He invited me to join and it was a great honour.”

Maybe, in the first picture, William is demonstrating how learning certain soccer moves helps when groggily roaming to the bathroom at 3 AM in bare feet, he avoids stepping on his kids toys. :D
