Bon Voyage Dippy!

This is a prime example of taking something that is going to happen at one place (the NHM) and craftily use another patronage (Place2Be) to create something quite extraordinary to call attention to both. Kate doesn't disappoint when it comes to things like this. You take something from the far distant mists of time of our Earth such as Dippy is, add in some children and some very imaginative "projects" and magic ensues along with a unforgettable learning experience.

Makes me really think that just "cutting a ribbon" is fast becoming a thing of the past. Whomever dreamed up this event, I hope fires up event planners to be so much more creative when it comes to things like this.

I also imagine that George and Charlotte were all ears when it came to Kate telling them about the party they had for Dippy. George, I bet, would have loved to have been there himself.

Duchess of Cambridge will join King’s Lynn cubs meeting

The meeting, at North Wooton scout hut next Wednesday, is part of the Cubs’ centenery celebrations.

Kensington Palace said: “The Duchess of Cambridge will attend a special Cub Scout Pack meeting with Cubs from the Kings Lynn District to celebrate 100 years of Cubs. Her Royal Highness will join the Pack as they take part in games and activities themed around looking after yourself and others physically and emotionally.

“Activities will include a parachute game to encourage teamwork and cooperation, first aid training and cub cake icing. They will then join together to renew their Cub Scout promise and celebrate the Cubs’ 100th anniversary with the lighting of 100 candles and a rendition of happy birthday.”

I like this new engagement. It's been a while since she did something with the scouts.

Speaking as proud Member in good standing of the Girl Guides of Canada, there is nothing more special than renewing your promise at a big event like this. Doing it w/Kate there though? These kids and their Families will never forget it. :)

Glad to know there's another die hard Girl Guide/Girl Scout meandering around these threads. As a Scout all through my childhood and then taking on Brownie and Daisy troops as an adult, I know first hand how great scouting is for kids. One thing that was realized is that in scouting, there is no such saying as "I can't".

This 100th anniversary of the Cubs is going to be an extra special one especially with Kate attending. Sure would love to see those 100 candles lit.

Fantastic event and great photos

Brings back memories, especially the parachute game. I was what we call brownie/girl guide in my day. Lots of wonderful memories.

The one pic of her by herself smiling at the camera....she looks very good. Her face doesn't look so thin/drawn.

Kings Lynn, 14 December 2016 – The Duchess of Cambridge has paid a special visit to young people at a Cub Scout Pack in Kings Lynn this evening to celebrate the Cubs’ 100th anniversary through a range of fun activities designed to help them to learn vital life skills.

The Duchess, who previously worked as a volunteer with a Cub Scout pack when she and the Duke of Cambridge lived in Anglesey, North Wales, joined 24 girls and boys aged between 8 and 10½ – all from the Kings Lynn area.

The Duchess kick-started the evening’s activities by leading the children in some parachute games, which are designed to help develop teamwork and cooperation skills. She then helped other leaders to run three further activities designed to:

- Learn basic first aid skills

- Build positive relationships with others and themselves, raising confidence and self esteem

- Develop creative skills by decorating some special Cubs100 ‘Cub cakes'

Great to see the kids and adults enjoying themselves at the event. And a big thanks should go out to the volunteer leaders who plan the activities, teach the values of scouting and meet with scouts on a regular basis.

The 43 year-old naturalist and adventurer, best known for presenting shows such as Big Blue Live, Extreme Mountain Challenge and Deadly 60, is official Cubs100 Ambassador for this, the Cub Scouts’ centenary year.

Friday 16th December itself marks the 100 year anniversary of the official foundation of the organisation - originally known as the Wolf Cubs - by Vera Barclay and Robert Baden-Powell, as a junior entry scheme, for eight to ten-and-a-half-year-olds, to his successful Boy Scouts movement.

...On Wednesday, the Duchess of Cambridge, another high profile signing to the Cubs’ roster of volunteers, and a former Girl Guide herself, joined a pack in King’s Lynn, near her Norfolk home, for baking, games and first aid training.

Backshall feels “absolutely sure” that her involvement has helped the number of Cub Scouts in the UK swell to more 150,000, almost a quarter of whom are girls: “Every time you bring in a powerful figurehead like Kate, you reinvigorate the idea of what Scouting is,” he says, keen to show that it has moved on from the days of “being around a bonfire singing Ging Gang Goolie.”

There is definitely grouping going on with the patronages on the list. Charles is the first three then Camilla then William then Kate then Harry, Andrew, Edward, Sophie and finally Anne. Both tennis ones are Kate's. Action for Children is also Kate's with the Blind Veterans being Harry's
