The DM used the phrase "another glossy royal" after mentioning Catherine in an article about Camilla's daughter-in-law. This is exemplaric for what is happening. Not only in the UK anyway. It is the celebrity culture bulldozering royal distance, serenity and dignity. Liz Jones wrote an extremely bitter and nasty article on this photo-shoot in the DM, so my point that an ever-ongoing celebritization leads to nothing seems to be proven.

I like the photo of the Kate with the red blouse. It gives a natural vibe. I don't like the other two pics. I think Kate does not look good, plus the thicker eyebrows do not do her ay favour.
On a general note,i'm glad she lessened her make-up! She looks much better!

kate doing a cover for vogue has been rumored for a long time now. i am glad that she made her cover matter by waiting several years after her marriage to do it, and for it to be done on a special anniversary of the magazine.

i must admit though that the pictures are not my favourite. i believe there are 3 in total, and i just don't find them that appealing. it was a nice touch to do them in the norfolk countryside though.

I would've liked to read Catherine's own reflection of the photo shoot, rather than hearing from KP officials and the director of NPG. Im sure she have some comments about the whole experience.

Clearly everyone involved knew what a big deal this was going to be. To be on the cover of the centenary issue of British Vogue for a NPG exhibtion is a big deal. Just think of all the people they had to pick from and chose Catherine and she agreed to do it.

The British photographer’s work is known for its quiet elegance and a degree of relaxed understatement.

Mr Olins said: “It’s a privilege to have been chosen to photograph HRH The Duchess of Cambridge for the Centenary issue of British Vogue and an honour that two of those portraits will hang in the National Portrait Gallery in London.

“This was the Duchess’s first sitting for a magazine and she was a joy to work with, a natural. I am incredibly grateful to Alexandra Shulman for placing her faith in me for such an important and historic assignment.”

Here's a quick interview with Alexandra Shulman, the editor-in-chief of British Vogue.

She'll be viewing the images at the NPG on Wednesday, so I imagine we'll hear a comment or two then. Also it's a 10-page spread (+7 photos), so we may get to hear more about the whole experiences in the magazine article.

Nice "behind scene" details. Kate wanted pics to reflect "private existence" & didn't want "gala gowns & tiaras"

I like that she did a cover for a magazine. This is in line with the Cambridges strategy of giving people access but on their terms, which I find to be a wise move.

The only thing I don't like about the pics is they're too doctored up. Other than that, I like the theme and the natural surroundings. As Emily Andrews pointed out, this whole shoot was guided by Catherine.

Although, we do not get a chance to see Catherine in her regal gear much, and I think this has lead to some disappointments from some of the followers on Twitter.

I would like to see her do a photo shoot at home. An even more relaxed and laid back setting.

I am sorry but I look at the photos and think 2 things. 1.They are so doctored. Especially the first 2 we saw. They barely look like her, look closer to her pre-engagement photos. 2. They look like some advertisement for Ralph Lauren. They look like an American western line (plaid shirt, the hat, the leather coat). The natural background doesn't even look like she is in the UK.

I agree. The obsession that magazines have with making people look like plastic dolls is beyond me. Kate is pretty on her own, she doesn't need all that photoshop. Some I can understand, but they go overboard. Oh well, I suppose that's not changing anytime soon.

I agree. Don't let others dictate to you.

According to Vogue, Catherine was approached months ago and said no way she wasn't interested. It was only after the National Portrait Gallery contacted her (she's royal patron) did she agree to do it.

Yeah, which is one of the reasons why I think she should more stuff like this for her patronages and to promote them.

I'm glad to see her do this though. It goes to prove how confident she's grown as a senior Royal.
