I'm not entirely sure if I believe the Oliver story though. It sounds like one that is made to depict Diana as being a bit... Well, either silly or stupid. Her wanting to name a son John (even as a middle name) makes sense since it has a history in both her family and Charles'.
I just finished Earl Spencer's book on the Spencer family. In it he depicts how virtually every single oldest son in the family was called John. The only reason the current Earl Spencer isnt, is that there was an older son who died right after birth with the name.

Yet, none of Earl Spencer's sons are named John

Edward 'John' Spencer's father was Albert Edward.

Well... Close.

Virtually every first son since the first Earl Spencer has had John in his name, although not alway as his first name.

The first Earl was John, son of John. His son was George John, whose eldest son was John Charles. JC inherited the title, but didn't have children so it passed on to his younger brother, Frederick. Frederick's eldest son was John Poyntz, but he predeceased his father so the title went to the younger son, Charles Robert. CR's eldest was Albert Edward John, whose eldest was Diana's father, Edward John. Edward John's first son was simply John, his second being Charles Edward Maurice, who had chosen to not use John in either of his son's names.

Going back further, the first Spencer was a John, whose had sons Sir John, Thomas, and William. William's son was Sir John, and son was Sir William. Sir William fathered another Sir John, who fathered a Sir John and a Sir William. The elder, Sir John, named his son for his father-in-law, Robert, but Robert went with John and William for his sons. William named his eldest for his father-in-law, Henry, and named his younger sons Robert and William. Henry named his son Robert, who randomly named his son Charles, who fathered two Roberts, a Charles, a John, and a William. This John was the father of the John who was the 1st Earl Spencer, while the younger Robert would become the 4th Earl of Sunderland and the Charles would become the 3rd Duke of Marlborough.

I have no insight on how they will name #2. They don't have to tell me if they don't want.
They will have to tell you at some point...

Or proof of her complete lack of education....

I was more concerned with the pronunciation than the attractiveness, but, yes, the name is not very attractive.

I’m still hoping for a Leopold. But I doubt I’ll get what I want.
Alice would be nice for a girl. If only because I can’t help but admire a woman who defied Queen Victoria and breastfed her child anyway.

Also, Prince Phillip's mother was Princess Alice.

For a daughter, I think they will go with Alice or Victoria.

For a son, perhaps Michael? Although my personal preference is for Stephen.

(Still think it was short-sighted to allow Edward to use the name James! Now they are out of names!)

I think a little prince Henry would be lovely.
I know his uncle is technically called Henry but is known in the family as Harry.

I think they will stick to a royal first name for their second child, like they did with George. Classic names such as Edward, George, Charles etc seem to be the names that are mostly used within the BRF so I think that's what we can expect for Baby Cambridge No. Two. With the expectation of Princess Anne's grandchildren (Savannah, Isla and Mia), most names that seem completely normal and not at all out there might seem a bit far fetched for the BRF since its not traditional, such as Holly. Holly is currently No. 24 in England and for Joe from next door's daughter it would be quite nice, but a "Princess Holly" just sounds a bit odd. I love the thought of reviving older names, but I doubt they will go as far back as the Saxon era, so I think we won't be having a Prince Athelstan or a Princess Ethelburga any time soon. If William and Catherine were to revive an older name (I will applaud them if they do) I think the oldest they would do would be the medieval period, but perhaps that's just me.

As Prince George has two middle names (Alexander and Louis), I now think William and Catherine might give their second child two middle names as well. If children are going to have more than one middle name these days, they often have two, but royalty I guess is an expectation as many royals have at least three middle names, and some of the Catholic RFs give their children lots of middle names.

If they have another Prince, I so hope they use Arthur. It's such a handsome, magical and beautiful classical name and is underused IMO, or at least in England. If there was a Prince Arthur of Cambridge I'm sure he'd boost the name's popularity and give it some recognition. George's popularity was boosted by the little Prince, but it's always been a pretty popular name in England. I know six personally; most of the Georges I know are from the same age group as me but I also know a couple of older Georges and a couple of younger Georges (the younger Georges I know were all born before the Prince). For a Princess, I'm still hoping for a Victoria, but I also love Mary. Mary is another beautiful classical name that I feel is underused (it's been popular for years in England but now I think it's viewed as more of an older person's name) and Baby Cambridge No. Two could again help that become reversed.

Stephen is the name of King Stephen who wasn't the best of Kings, and seeming as the RF haven't used John since the death of Prince John, it might not be an option. Having said that, I guess all or at least most of the British Kings have done something disagreeable so that would leave us with not many names to choose from if we were guessing names from that "rule".

I also think they won't use any name from the Middleton or Windsor families that's being used as a first name (such as Michael, James etc) as it would perhaps get a little confusing at family gatherings. I think they will use them as middle names instead.

If William and Catherine have a son and would decide to name him James, could the nickname of Jaime be used to distinguish him from his uncle, James Middleton and from James, Viscount Severn?

In all likelihood this baby won't be King or Queen so more names can be used. Andrew wasn't a British Royal name. He was named after Philip's father. So it wouldn't be shocking if Michael was used.

It will most likely be a traditional name. William and Harry's names are all traditional so are Kate's and her siblings.

Since WK didn't find out the sex beforehand with George. They probably already have a girls name that they picked out for George that maybe they use if it's a girl.
