In most situations the transit from pre-school to formal school is helped by the fact that most, not all of course, are moving together in the same direction and same destination.

I wonder will George wonder where his other pre-schooler friends are and why they aren't in their London houses?!

Looking "unlikely" Catherine will be well enough to drop George off the school tomorrow with William- Its all understandable. George will be there with his papa though.

My guess is she will be there if there is any possible way she can do it....as most moms would be.

Education of the Cambridge Children

She is not most moms right now. If she can't make from KP to the school without being sick, then she should not do it or at minimum stay in car with a bucket ready. If she goes and looks somewhat normal, you know there will be people saying she is faking or why couldn't she do her engagements but do this.

Maybe they will take a picture at KP with George and his parents - Kate with a nice robe sitting up in bed with William and George in his school uniform.

Oh that's too bad if she doesn't get to go - the first day of school is a pretty big rite of passage for many parents, I'm guessing W and K included. But if she's sick, she's sick. She'll be able to accompany Charlotte and the new baby in a few years.

I may get flamed for this, but it is my opinion. My firstborn started school this year, and I would have been beside myself if I couldn't be with him on his first day. Your firstborn is where you have all your new experiences of motherhood/parenthood. Missing out on George's first day would devastate Catherine. I hope she and William are able to celebrate this milestone, albeit without the intrusion of the media.

I imagine she is beside herself that she can't go, but there is nothing she can do. She is literally too sick to get out of bed.

"Without the intrusion of the media." Are you nuts??

And, if Catherine cannot be at George's first day of school because she is sick, so be it. There will be other firsts for her first born child. Besides, his father will be there.

Fortunately the press doesn't have access to their house. They can make a special day of it, before or after school for George. Not everything need be in public.

I think it is very much a cultural thing. I wouldn't assume that Catherine would feel as you do. She may, or she may view it very differently.
I was my mother's firstborn. She was a working mom and I managed to catch the school bus and ride it to school that first day all on my own. My dad was towards the end of his 2 yr. losing battle with cancer and too ill to see me off to school. I've never felt that either myself or my mom were deprived. I didn't make a big deal about my son's first day of school either. I saw it as the first baby step in the long journey to independence for him.
Now when I moved him into the dorm that first year of college - that was a big deal for me.

Prince George arrives for his first day of school | Daily Mail Online

No Kate so William had to take George alone. Nice to see video for a change instead of static video of a milestone in George's life.

Thomas's Battersea

kensingtonroyalThis morning Prince George, accompanied by The Duke of Cambridge, attended his first day of school at Thomas's Battersea in London. Their Royal Highnesses were met by the Head of Lower School on arrival, before The Duke took Prince George inside to his reception classroom.

I know Catherine must be disappointed in not being able to take Prince George to school this morning with William. I am sending Prince George warm thoughts for a wonderful first day full of fun!

We mustn't forget how horrible HG is. Unless you have experienced it, there are no words......Catherine is sick, the meds she must take to keep it under control probably make her woozy and unsteady on her feet, and for all we know, she may be hooked up to an IV at home.

Oh dear, that butterflies in the tummy sensation of the first time in an unfamiliar place when you are very young! George looks a bit tentative and holds on to daddy's hand. I'll bet he'll have lots to tell him and mummy about at the end of the session though. The first big step on life's journey outside the family, but usually it's a positive one!
