In their final official event before the birth of their second child, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit urban youth charity XLP on Friday (27 March) ...

For the young people involved with the many XLP projects across London’s inner city, this important day will be considered one of the biggest and most exciting events in XLP history!

The Duke and Duchess will have the opportunity to watch a very special performance by young people from the XLP Arts project at Christ Church, Gypsy Hill. They will then spend time talking with the young people at XLP’s community bus project on the Hazel Grove Estate in Sydenham about the issues that most affect their daily lives.

The Duchess of Cambridge is carrying out a series of royal engagements today with the Duke - her last official public events before the birth of her second child. William and Kate began their day by joining Baroness Doreen Lawrence at the Stephen Lawrence Centre, named after her son who was fatally stabbed by a group of white youths near a bus stop in south-east London in April 1993. .

Simon McCoy on BBC News at One said it was "the last engagement before the birth of her second son".

Was that a slip of the tongue or does he know something we don't?

Probably a slip since William and Kate say they don't even know.

Simon apologized on Twitter and said he had no inside information. He said he meant to say second child.

Darn, I wish he had had inside info! (Simon, not William :))

That guy also had some nice things to say about them too. Not sure why some in the press aren't reporting his entire quote.

1 Boy who met the Will & Kate today: "They had no clue where we were coming from. I don't think they could relate to anything we said."

LOL

Then he said "Other than that, they were very considerate. They genuinely cared about what we said."

Some other quotes from today

Mr Regan, 41, said: “Some of the time young people think nothing good ever happens to them, and things like this only happen to people who are privileged.

“The fact that people like the Duke and Duchess are showing an interest in them really matters.”

Steven Ekpenyong, 23 said of the Duke and Duchess’s visit: “It makes such a difference - events like this help us share some positive insight into what young people in the community are about.”

I just love the sincerity and candour of the children:whistling:

The remark came from one of the kids at the charity Excel Project.

The Duke and Duchess’s visit to the bus, where they talked to a group who had been helped by XLP, sparked a furious political debate.

While most of the youngsters said afterwards the couple had been understanding and down to earth, one 17-year-old, who called himself Hero, interjected angrily: 'They had no clue where we were coming from. I don’t think they could relate to anything we said.

'They are just keeping up appearances. They wanted to make it look like they related. We are paying our taxes – we pay for them to live where they live.'

However his fury soon abated. Asked what he thought how the couple came across, he said: 'Other than that, they were very considerate. They genuinely cared about what we said.'

Hearing some of the stories about how these kids grew up, one can understand why he didn't think they could relate to him. It seems his anger was less about William and Kate and more about the disparity between the rich and the poor.

Kate and William attended a concert by XLP - the youth mentoring community centre and charity. The royals joined in a sing along with one of the bands and were presented with gift bags including t shirts and mugs as well as two tiny t.shirts for their royal toddler and impending new royal baby, which stated 'i refuse to believe this is a lost generation'. On their way out of the building Kate was presented with many flowers, including one from a well-dressed young boy in hat and waistcoat-

Today was a significant day for the urban youth charity XLP as they proudly welcomed the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge for the first time to visit some of their mentoring and community outreach projects based on inner city estates in London. The three hours they spent with XLP saw them visit the church in Gipsy Hill where the charity first started. They then went on to visit XLP’s stripped out and refurbished former double decker bus in Sydenham, which reaches out to young people in the area who are facing some serious challenges in their lives, including gang culture, family breakdown and addiction.

The Duke & Duchess immediately put everyone at ease through their genuine interest and even enjoying a joke with the young people – many of whom were very nervous meeting royalty for the first time. The young people shared their own powerful, personal stories of overcoming incredibly tough situations. Including Nadine who is one of 16 children and experienced family breakdown. She was made homeless at the age of 16, living rough on the streets for 2.5 years. XLP s help and mentoring of Nadine means she now has a home, a job and a real hope for the future.

Apparently the Royal Variety Performance starts at 7 tonight. It will not be shown on TV until December.

Will and Kate are at the Royal Variety Performance tonight and acc to @CamillaTominey we might get the details on the NYC trip too!

It's very good that they will be attending this evening event for the first time.

This was broadcast on our taxpayer-funded channel, ABC, yesterday afternoon - Good Friday - which was great, no ad breaks.

I've never seen the Duke and Duchess laugh their heads off so much.

(If you missed it Oz members, maybe it is now up on iView or Catch-Up TV.)

Kensington Palace has now announced that William and Kate will go to Wimbledon next Wednesday to watch the quarterfinals on Centre Court.

Well... i would have been surprised if they didn't turn up at Wibledon... pity Kate isn't going to the flypast...sigh

It is indeed a pity that she won't be attending. If she was attending another engagement on that day, then it would be understandable.

It wouldn't even be noticed if she weren't listed to attend Wimbledon as well: wrong perception on all fronts...
