Poor Kate indeed. Personally, I think natural birth is the best option for babies (unless a C section is required for medical needs of course!).

only the beginning - the names; baby clothes; choice of godparents; weight loss (hers); hair loss (his); role of the Middletons; William's career decision; where they live; her clothes.........................never ending opportunities for criticism and helpful advice.

I was not alive when William was born so I was wondering did Diana get Criticism and advice from peoples while she was Pregnant like they have done with Catherine?

The only advice Catherine should listen to is the advice from her doctors friends and family.

I'm sure she did....but now there is twitter, cel phone cameras and the Internet. There is a public forum (no pun intended) for anyone with an opinion and camera. Thankfully they both seem to be pretty secure in their role and their choices.

I think back in the day, there was a reluctance to criticise the monarchy and anything connected with it. The huge euphoria over the wedding and the fairy tale marriage was still there. She was young and people generally were protective.

I think raised eyebrows were the biggest form of criticism (if you can call it that - more shock) at giving birth in a hospital rather than a palace but almost immediately that was called modern and the right thing to do.

And times were slower - an immediate message was not expected and the commercialisation of news and pictures wasnt there.

So no criticism and just mumsy articles about pregnancy. No wagging fingers and vicious "class" comments.

I've read that Diana made the mistake of reading articles about herself. I really hope that Catherine doesn't.

I think Catherine knows that it comes with being part of the Royal Family and I think she ignores mostly. I just hope she doesn't read negative (and sometimes sick) comments online especially on websites that are anti-monarchy

Just a reminder on what the day was like when The Duke of Cambridge was born:

I wonder if Marcus will actually deliver the baby, or if it would be a midwife/obstetrician who works for the Lindo Wing. We'll know when the birth is announced as they normally list who "attended Her Royal Highness". For Sophie they listed all those who attended both of her deliveries, and in fact a lot of the medical team were the same people.

Quote:
The medical team attending Her Royal Highness were Mr Gareth Beynon (Consultant Obstetrician/gynaecologist); Mr Sukhpal Singh (Consultant Surgeon); Anne Deans (Consultant Obstetrician/gynaecologist); Dr Peta Maltby (Consultant Paediatrician ); Dr Melinda Brazier (SpR Anaesthetics); Dr Claire Edkins (Consultant Anaesthetics); Dr Paul Wong (SHO Anaesthetics); Mr Adam Lewis (Sarjeant Surgeon to The Queen); and Mr Marcus Setchell (Surgeon Gynaecologist).

Imagine getting that phone call at home, as most Consultants at night do not sleep on the hospital site. "So we're bringing in HRH Countess of Wessex and she is seriously ill, get here now." I would be a mess.

We were discussing at work about how we would handle it if Catherine delivered at our hospital. It's NEVER going to happen, but were saying how HARD it would be to keep everything confidential. You would, of course, but you would be desperate to go home and tell people you met her and saw the baby etc. Our Head of Midwifery wouldn't know what to do with a labouring woman, it's been so long since she worked on Labour Ward!

if hospital staff (medical, admin or support) cannot maintain medical in confidence then any individual breaking that confidence should be sacked. Prerequisite of the job.

To add to the other replies, I don't recall any criticisms of Diana during pregnancy, at least not the first one. IIRC, she had a huge weight loss after William (we now know it was bulimia) and that sparked more media attention. At first, though, she was such a young woman from a noble family without any "baggage" so there was really nothing much to pick on from any quarter. And yes, they were more private times in general....it was only the beginning.

You are not necessarily sacked. You are suspended for a period of time, depending on the situation. And in the case of Catherine delivering at the unit where I worked, it would be public knowledge she was there anyway. You of course would not tell people every detail, but it would be rather hard not to say you at least saw her. It's human nature.

No excuses for any information leaking from the hospital. Catherine is entitled to the same privileges as any other mother

Of course she is and that is NOT what I am saying. What I said was that it would already be public knowledge she was the hospital. No where did I say information would be leaked to the public.

that good then - we are agreed. Anything about Catherine's stay in the hospital other than that which is made publicly available by the palace stays private.

No one leaks anything.

I never disagreed with you...

And the latter part of your sentence is a given, as anything that is "leaked" is taken with a pinch of salt.
