The Dowager Duchess of Nortumberland, née Lady Elizabeth Montagu-Douglas-Scott, passed away on 19 September 2012, aged 90.

She was born in London on 20 January 1922, the eldest daughter of the 8th Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch and Queensberry; her paternal aunt was the late HRH Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester.
She married in 1946 to Hugh Percy, 10th Duke of Northumberland (1914-1988). They became parents of seven children together; of them, the eldest son, Henry, 11th Duke of Nortumberland, predeceased her in 1995, while one daughter Lady Louise died soon after the birth in 1962.

Princess Elisabeth von Urach passed away at Munich on 20 September 2012, aged 59.

She was born on 10 December 1952 at Regensburg, the second daughter of Prince Eberhard and Princess Iniga von Urach, née Princess von Thurn und Taxis (herself the daughter of Prince Ludwig and Princess Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis, née Princess of Luxembourg and Nassau).
Princess Elisabeth never married and didn't have children.
She is survived by her siblings Amelie, Karl Anselm, Wilhelm (the current Duke von Urach) and Eberhard and their families.

Ursula Helene Charlotte von Selchow, nee Baroness von der Pahlen died this year.

She was born in 1941 as one of the firstborn twin daughters of Baron Hans Georg Alexis Alexander von der Pahlen (1911-DOD unknown) & his wife Irmgard Katharine Luise von Mitzlaff (1919-2009). In 1967 she married Wolf-Asmus von Selchow (b.1930). They had a son Sven and two daughters Carolin and Sophie, as well as three grandsons and two granddaughters.
Apart from her own family, she is survived by her twin sister Olga Katharina Luise (b.1941), brother-in-law Gunther Freischutz (b.1934, Olga's husband), her younger sister Felizitas (b.1948), brother-in-law, Prince Metfried Alexander Friedrich Wilhelm of Wied (b.1935, Ferlizitas' husband) as well as two nephews, four grandnephews and two grandnieces (Felizitas' and Metfried's descendants; Olga and Gunther are childless)

Nada Esmee, former Duchess de Caraman, nee Macklin, died in Palm Beach on 14 July.

She was born in Cobham on 23 November 1917. She married Jean Victor Ernest, Duke de Caraman 91916-2010), in Weybridge, Surrey on 27 January 1939, but they divorced in 1966.
She is survived by her daughter Christina Helene (b.1943) and grandchildren; her son Francois-Noel, Marquess de Caraman predeceased her in 2002 (aged 55)

After her former husband's death the title of Duke de Caraman passed to Philippe (b.1972), his only son by his second wife, Elga Schroers (b.1941).

Marguerite Gräfin Kottulinsky, née Princess von Rohan, died at Attersee on 19 September.

She was born at Sichrow on 21 July 1923, daughter of Alain Fürst von Rohan and his wife, Princess Margarethe von Schönburg-Hartenstein. In 1945 she married Kunata Graf Kottulinsky (1914-2004) and is survived by their two daughters and their families.

The 12th Lady Kinloss

The Lady Kinloss, 12th in line (Peerage of Scotland, cr 1601/2), died in hospital, 30 September, 2012, aged 90. Lady Kinloss, Beatrice Mary Freeman-Grenville, lived at Sheriff Hutton, near York.

She was born 18 Aug 1922, daughter of Rev. Hon Luis Grenville, Master of Kinloss (1889-Aug 1944), by his wife the former Katherine Jackman; succeeded to the peerage, 17 Oct, 1944, on the demise of her grandmother, Mary Temple Nugent-Brydges-Grenville, later Morgan, later Morgan-Grenville, suo jure Lady Kinloss.

She married in 1950, Greville Stewart Parker Freeman, later Freeman-Grenville (d 2005), by whom she had issue, one son Bevil, styled Master of Kinloss (1953-2012), and 2 daughters, Teresa and Hester.

The peerage now devolves upon her Ladyship's elder daughter, Teresa Mary Nugent Grenville Freeman-Grenville, Mistress of Kinloss, who was b. 20 July, 1957. She is unm.

The Dowager Countess of Denbigh died 30 September, 2012. The widow of the 11th earl was aged 75.

She was born Caroline Judith Vivienne (Judy) Cooke, daughter of Lt-Col. Geoffrey Cooke, of Little Orchard, Sunningdale, co Berkshire, and married 2 Sept, 1965, William Rudolph Michael Feilding, 11th Earl of Denbigh (1943-95) (Peerage of England, cr 1622), and 10th Earl of Desmond (Peerage of Ireland, also cr 1622), who died 23 Mar, 1995.

Lady Denbigh leaves one son, Alexander, 12th Earl of Denbigh, and 2 daughters, Lady Samantha Hurley and Lady Louisa Barton.

(Dora) Rosemary Scott-Moncrieff, who died 8 October, 2012, was the wife of Lieutenant-Colonel William Scott-Moncrieff, head of that landed family, formerly of Fossway. She was the former Dora Rosemary Knollys, and was born in London in 1928, daughter Harold Lucian Knollys, of Abbeylands, Weybridge, Surrey, and married Lt-Col. Scott-Moncrieff, 22 March, 1950. She had issue, two daughters, Jean Claire (b 1952), and Lucy Ann (b 1954).

Count Hubert von Schlitz gen. von Görtz passed away on 10 October 2012, aged 65.

He was born on 22 January 1947, the eldest son of Count Joachim Wolfgang von Schlitz gen. von Görtz and of his first wife, née Irene Margarethe Pohl. He was married since 1971 to Inge Godemann, by whom he had two daughter, Melanie and Regina.
He is survived by his wife, their two daughters, his father and his brothers with their families.

Count Michael von Kageneck died on 11 October 2012, aged 70.

He was born at Detmold on 4 December 1941, the second of the three sons of Count Franz Josef von Kageneck and of his wife, née Princess Elisabeth Maria of Bavaria (daughter of Prince Alfons of Bavaria and of his wife, née Princess Louise of Orléans). His father was killed in action later that month, on 29 November 1941.
He was married firstly from 1964 to 1970 to Christina Maria Bengels, secondly from 1972 to 1976 to Beate Apeldorn, and thirdly since 1977 to Lieselotte Buchenthal. By his three wives he became father of six children.
He is survived by his wife, his children, his brother Hubertus (the former husband of Archduchess Michaela of Austria) and his four half-sisters (from his mother's second marriage).

Sir Richard David Christopher Brooke, 11th Baronet (Baronetcy E, cr 1662, of Norton Priory, co Chester), died 24 October, 2012. He was 74.

He was born 23 Oct, 1938, son of Sir Richard Neville Brooke, 10th Baronet (1915-1997), by his wife the former Lady Mabel Kathleen Jocelyn (d 27 Jun 1985), daughter of the 8th Earl of Roden, and succeded to the baronetcy on his father's death, 1997; married 1stly, 1963 (div 1976), Carola Marion Erskine Hill, and 2ndly, in 1979, Lucinda (nee Voelcker), and is succeeded in the baronetcy by the elder son (of the 1st marriage), Richard Christopher, who was b 10 July, 1966.

Countess Elisabetta Ceschi a Santa Croce, née Freiin Wenzel von Sternbach, died in Bolzano (South Tyrol) on 5 October.
She was born in 1923, and married in 1948 Count Hugo Ceschi a Santa Croce (1915-2006), son of Count Giovanni Ceschi and of Proncess Luise zu Windischgrätz.

Donna Jumara dei principi Boncompagni Ludovisi Rondinelli Vitelli died in Florence on 20 July.
[She was born in 1919, daughter of Don Paolo dei principi Boncompagni Ludovisi Rondinelli Vitelli (1886-1960) and of Donna Stefania dei principi Bourbon dal Monte (1888-1984) and married in 1940 the late Dr. Franco Zelony.]

Jacques Alfred Simon Taddei, born at Nice in 1946 and since 1996 the husband of Princess Anne-Louise de Broglie, died on 24 June.


Prince Régis de Broglie, died on 2 November.
He was born in 1929 and was married since 1957 to Florence Albane Marie Thérèse Bartholoni. He is survived by her and their children.

Comtesse de Galard Terraube, née Princesse Thérèse de Broglie, died on 2 November.
She was born in 1929, daughter of Prince Édouard de Broglie (1900-1952) and of his wife, Hélène Le Bas de Courmont (1898-1967). She was married in 1953 to Comte Henri de Galard Terraube (1926-2008).

Don Guido d'Aquino dei principi di Caramanico died in Rome on 4 October.
[He was born in 1931, son of Don Giuseppe d'Aquino, XIV Principe di Caramanico, XIII Principe di San Severo, XII Duca di Casoli, VII Principe di Castelfranco, XIII Duca di Torremaggiore, etc. (1891-1942) and of Donna Amalia d'Aquino dei principi di Caramanico (1894-1978) and married in 1975 Donna Natalia dei principi Pignatelli dei duchi di Montecalvo (b.1951). He is survived by her, one son and one daughter.]

Principe e Marchese Don Gianfranco Gonzaga dei signori di Vescovado died in Cavergnago near Bergamo (Italy) on 8 August.[He was born in 1928, son of Principe e Marchese Don Giovanni Maria Gonzaga (1894-1960) and of Donna Caterina dei conti Medolago Albani (1900-1985) and married in 1956 Warmonda Valerio (b. 1930). He is survived by her and one son.]

Comte Robert de La Rochefoucauld died on 8 May.
He was born in 1923, and is survived by his wife, née Bernadette Charlotte Marie Emé de Marcieu de Gontaut-Biron, and their four children.


Comte Gérard de La Rochefoucauld died on 31 October.
He was born in 1928, and was married from 1962 to 1987 to a cousin, Françoise de La Rochefoucauld. He is survived by their children.

Don Francesco Moncada, XV Principe di Paternò, X Duca di San Giovanni, etc., died in Palermo on 26 July.
[He was born in 1925, son of Don Ugo Moncada, XIII Principe di Paternò, VIII Duca di San Giovanni, etc. (1890-1974) and of Donna Giovanna Lanza Branciforte dei principi di Trabia (1897-1985) and married in 1950 Maria Concetta Verde (b. 1927), by whom divorced. He married secondly in 1973 Marion Grossniklaus (b. 1938) and is survived by her, two daughters and one son from his first marriage.]

Donna Arabella dei duchi Salviati died in her private estate of Camitrici-Pietraperzia (near Enna, Sicily) on 17 September.
[She was born in 1922, daughter do Don Averardo Salviati, Duca di Giuliano (1896-1973) and of Costanza Igiea Florio (1900-1974) and married in 1945 Don Francesco Lanza Branciforte dei principi di Scalea (1912-1988). The marriage was annulled by the Holy See. She is survived by two sons.]

Comte Guy d’Ursel died at Woluwe-Saint-Lambert on 18 September.
[He was born at Brussels on 1 October 1928, son of Comte Bernard d’Ursel (1904-1965) and of his wife, née Princess Thérèse de Ligne. Since 1953 he had been married to Jeannine de la Croix d’Ogimont, and is survived by her and their two children.]


Comte Didier d’Ursel died at Moisnil on 5 September.
[He was born at Uccle on 4 April 1931, son of Comte Antoine d’Ursel (1896-1943) and of his second wife, née Marguerite Aldegonde Marie Joséphine de La Barre d’Erquelinnes. Since 1958 he had been married to Geneviève Elisabeth Ghislaine Jacottet and is survived by her and their five children.]

Baroness Rosa Sophie von und zu Guttenberg, née Princess and Duchess von Arenberg, passed away on 17 November 2012, aged 89.

She was born on 23 December 1922 at Pesch (Germany), the eldest of the two daughters of Prince and Duke Robert Prosper von Arenberg and of his wife, née Princess Gabrielle von Wrede. Her younger sister was Anna-Eugenie, who in 1952 married to Archduke Felix of Austria (while a maternal cousin of them, Princess Anna-Gabriele von Wrede, married to Archduke Rudolph of Austria, Felix's youngest brother).
In 1943 she married to Baron Karl Theodor von und zu Guttenberg (1921-1972), who later became a noted CSU politician. They became parents of five children: Elisabeth (Countess Franz Ludwig von Stauffenberg), Georg-Enoch (a conductor and owner of the winery estate Reichsrat von Buhl), Michaela (Baroness Johannes Heereman von Zuydtwyck), Benedikta (who died a few weeks after her birth) and Praxedis (Baroness Albrecht von Boeselager).
Her husband died of ASL in 1972.

She is survived by four of her children, her children-in-law, 19 grandchildren (among whom is Baron Karl Theodor von und zu Guttenberg, a German CSU politician and former federal government minister) and 20 great-grandchildren.

Wendelin Arnold Oskar von Siemens died this year.
He was born in 1919 as oldest of five children of Hermann Werner von Siemens (1885-1986) & his wife Charlotte von Maltzan, Baroness von Wartenberg und Penzlin (1887-1976).
In 1958 he married Lisel-Charlotte Krome (b.1921); they had a daughter Corinna (b.1959) and a son Henrik (b.1961) as well as two granddaughters: Sophie Charlotte Brianna (b.1995) and Philippa Cosima (b.1999) - daughters of Henrik and his wife Victoria, nee Engelke (b.1966)

Patricia, Countess of Dundee, née Montagu-Douglas-Scott, died at Birkhill on 3 December.

She was born on 9 October 1910, daughter of Lord Herbert Montagu-Douglas-Scott (1872-1944) and his wife, née Marie Josephine Edwards (d.1965), She married 1stly in 1931 Walter Douglas Faulkner (k.a.May 1940); 2ndly in 1940 David Scrymgeour-Wedderburn (d.of wounds Mar 1944); and 3rdly in 1946 Henry James Scrymgeour-Wedderburn [later, Scrymgeour of Dundee], 11th Earl of Dundee (1902-1983). She is survived by four children and numerous other descendants, her oldest son from her first marriage having predeceased her.

Elisabeth Gräfin von Stillfried und Rattonitz, née Gräfin zu Stolberg-Wernigerode, died at Lindau on 8 October.

She was born at Peterswaldau on 17 April 1923 as the oldest of four children of Franz-Xaver, Count of Stolberg-Wernigerode (1894-1947) & his wife, Princess Barbara of Bourbon-Two Sicilies (1902-1927). On 26 January 1944 she married in Lindau Rüdiger Count of Stillfried und Rattonitz (b.1923) and is survived by him, their two daughters, and their families.

Baroness Bettina von Rothschild, Mrs Looram, died this year.

She was born in 1924 as second child of Alfons Baron von Rothschild (1878-1924) & his wife Clarice Seebag Montefiore (1894-1967). In 1943 she married Mathew James Looram (b.1921) by whom she had a son and a daughter.

Her brother Albert died in 1938 (aged 16) and her sister Gwerndoline in 1972 (aged 45).

Olivier Pierre Herve Marie d'Harcourt died in Clichy on 21 June, exactly a month and a day after his 52nd birthday.

He was born in Businga as third of five children of Michel Marie Robert Ghislain d'Harcourt (b.1929) & his wife Charlotte, nee de Laminne de Bex (b.1934). On 21 April 1990 in Saint-Marcouf he married Sophie Robin (b.1963).
Apart from his parents, siblings and wife, he bereft four children: Michel (13-2-1991), Blaise (13-10-1992), Celine (20-11-1993) and Anselme (4-11-1997).

Count Johannes of Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg died at Vienna on 20 October 2012.

He was born at Vienna on 20 February 1929, son of Prince Joseph of Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg (1897-1976) & his wife Johanna, née Countess Kinsky von Wchinitz and Tettau (1902-1964). On 2 September 1959 he married in Wald Princess Johanna of Auersperg (b.1934) and is survived by her, their five children and their families.

Maria de Wittig, nee Sanz y Lymantur died sometime last year.

She was born in 1925 as second daughter of Alfonso Sanz y Martinez de Arrizala (1880-1970) [himself out-of-wedlock son of King Alfonso XII of Spain (1857-1885) by Elena Sanz y Martinez de Arrizala (1844-1898)] & his wife, Maria Guadalupe Lymantur y Mariscal (1879-1977).
In 1943 she married Jaime Alberto Wittig y Cooke (1924-2005) by whom she had four daughters: Priscilla (b.1945), Patricia (b.1946), Lesly (b.1954) and Jennifer (b.1956) and one son Jaime (b.1958).
Apart from them she is survived by her six grandchildren and two nephews.
