All eyes on the course King Abdullah charts for Saudi Arabia
By ANTHONY SHADID and STEVE COLL, The Washington Post
Published: Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Ibrahim bin Abdullah Mubarak is a gruff man. On the phone, the lawyer forgoes florid Arabic salutations for a curt “thank you,’’ then abruptly hangs up. At 61, he holds papers close to his eyes, his hand trembling. Defending caIn ses in an often arbitrary system of justice has left him weary. But in the ascent of King Abdullah, Saudi Arabia’s sixth monarch, he sees change – vague, perhaps gradual, but nevertheless hopeful.

Saudi King, Abbas supported meeting: Musharraf
By Saleem Shahid
QUETTA, Sept 1: Defending his government’s initiative of holding talks with Israel at the level of foreign ministers, President General Pervaiz Musharraf said here on Thursday that Thursday’s meeting in Istanbul had the support of Palestinian President Mohammad Abbas and Saudi King Abdullh bin Abdulaziz. He said that in his opinion, significant progress was under way in efforts to resolve the Palestinian issue, adding that Pakistan would have to play a role in promoting an early settlement of this longstanding conflict that was the root-cause of terrorism in the Middle East and affected the entire world.

Rupert Murdoch might be facing the wrath of some News Corp shareholders but he has a huge supporter in billionaire Saudi prince Alwaleed bin Talal.
The prince's investment company, Kingdom, has converted a three per cent non-voting stake in Mr Murdoch's global media group to a 5.46 voting share, vowing to help the media tycoon fend off any takeover bid.
