Every Royal House has its own rules that can be changed by the parliament .

The rules for changing the rules of succession vary from country to country and include a simple Act of Parliament, a change to the constitution or a royal decree.

The rules for changing "House" rules are, to my knowledge, not subject to parliamentary approval. In a republic, where a "royal house" has no constitutional basis in the republican constitution (not sure about Montenegro, where the house is recognised explicitly), what authority does the parliament have over house rules? I don't think Crown prince Rupprecht of Bavaria's decision to change the Bavarian Royal House rules concerning equal marriage was validated by an act of Parliament, for example.

King Michael recognized the right of the Parliament to decide on this matter even in 2007. In no constitutional Monarchy the Succession is decided by the sovereign.

AFAIK Romania is a republic.

Because the country is a republic the documents regarding Succession signed after 1947 have no relevance.

Because the country is a republic the documents regarding Succession signed after 1947 have no relevance.

If only you would apply this logic to the documents containing the old line of succession, abolished in the same year, that have no validity, no relevance and no legality any longer either.

The King, as the head of the Royal House and the Royal Family of Romania, has an important task in ensuring his succession, for the sake of the monarchical cause in the country, and the continuation of the dynasty. In an abolished monarchy, it is the role of the head of the Royal Family to keep the cause going, not just with regards to restoration, but just as important, the preservation of history, property, philanthropic and idealistic causes connected with the Royal Family. It is extremely illogical, provocative and outright ridiculous to keep on suggesting that because he only has daughters, and because his eldest daughter has no children, the Royal Family should look outside the country for an heir to keep furthering the cause of the monarchy.

You cannot claim that one document from 1947 is valid, but another one is not. You equally cannot claim that the Crown Princess has an invalid title, but recognize the King, because it is within his rights to create titles, and you accepted that fully when Nicholas Medforth-Mills was made Prince Nicholas in 2010.

If the King chose not to change the line of succession and ask Parliament to approve it in the case of a restoration, he would not do his job as the Head of a Royal House, and the claim to the throne would die with him someday. He would be criticized by every monarchist for ignoring his responsibilities and not caring about the future, which is the exact opposite of what the Romanian Royal Family stands for.

You're disappointed with almost everything that has to do with Prince Radu. I am disappointed with events surrounding Nicholas M-M. So what? The cause is greater than one person, and the endgame is the future of the Royal Family and the restoration of the monarchy in Romania. That cannot happen without the King making his will clear, which he did in 2007, as did H.S.H the Prince of Hohenzollern, when he made it clear his family had 'no interest in the Romanian throne'.

How do we support the monarchy, the Royal Family and how do we convince our neighbours, our family and our friends to get this issue up on the agenda, and allow the change we want to happen?

It can't be done by trashing the Royal Family at every turn, and then claiming to support the monarchy. It won't be done by dreaming about finding a German Hohenzollern to come to Romania, like they did 150 years ago, and start a new dynasty. It will never happen.

Restarting the monarchy is hard enough, at least try to be realistic about what is doable and not. Otherwise you're just sabotaging the cause, and I'm not sure that's what you really want to do.

Their Royal Highnesses were a welcome sight in Stockholm this past week, both during the celebrations of H.M the King of Sweden, but equally out and about with the Romanian expatriates and others at various engagements during their stay. H.R.H Princess Maria represented the Royal Family well at home in Romania, during the celebrations of the Orthodox Easter, once again stepping up to represent her father and sister, the Crown Princess, as the senior royal representative at the appropriate functions.

Celebrating 150 from the accession of a Hohenzollern Prince on the Romanian Throne...without inviting any Hohenzollern ...

I thought Crown Princess Margareta and Princesses Elena, Sofia and Maria were Hohenzollerns, descendants of the Hohenzollern Kings of Romania, and daughters of the last King of Romanian (also a Hohenzollern).

But I guess women don't count, for some.

Crown Princess Margareta, Prince Radu, Princess Elena and Alexander Nixon, Princess Sofia and Princess Maria and Archduchess Maria Magdalena of Austria met in the salons of the castle personalities from cultural, scientific and educational life with senior representatives of the civil society, of the Romanian Orthodox Church, the Catholic Church, the cult of the Mosaic parquet and the cult of the Muslim, as well as of the Diplomatic Corps.
At 18, the Royal Family came out on the balcony of the castle to greet the participants in the celebration. A Royal Anthem was sung.
Half an hour later began the Gala Concert. The musicians performed on a stage located outdoors on the terrace of the castle. At the concert performed Cameratei Regale orchestra, with the guest conductor Tiberiu Soare and solistis violinist Remus Azoiţei and tenor Teodor Ilincăi.
The Royal Family watched the concert on the terrace of Peles Castle.
In the celebration took part Romanians from all over the country and Moldova. Also people from Spain, UK, Switzerland, Serbia, Russia, USA, Germany and Austria were present.

Celebrating 150 from the accession of a Hohenzollern Prince on the Romanian Throne...without inviting any Hohenzollern ...

I suppose that if the Hohenzollerns cared about it and wanted, they could have done something to at least remember the event (not necessarily something in grand scale, just issuing a statement would have been enough to show some interest).

I suppose that if the Hohenzollerns cared about it and wanted, they could have done something to at least remember the event (not necessarily something in grand scale, just issuing a statement would have been enough to show some interest).

The Windsors, despite Queen Maud of Norway being British by birth and a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, and the current Queen Elizabeth II being the second-cousin of King Harald V of Norway, does not send delegations of members celebrating anniversaries and milestones of the Norwegian monarchy when they take place. The Bernadottes in France do not attend milestone happenings in the kingdom of Sweden, despite being the ancestors of that particular Royal House.

A Royal House develops as a new and sovereign (no pun intended) entity, completely belonging to the nation that it has moved to and that has adopted them. It is the best, and as far as I know, only way to utterly and completely declare that you are for and from the country you represent, and at the 150th anniversary of the creation of the Romanian kingdom, it is pure logic to have the Romanian Royal Family, a separate entity entirely from their forefathers in Germany, represent the past, present and future of the monarchy in Romania. As late as in 2009, H.S.H Prince Karl Hohenzollern made it clear that he was not interested in the Romanian throne, and at no point has any Hohenzollern even attempted to display interest in the Romanian monarchy in the future, or the defunct line of succession.

It is therefore the job of the Romanian Royal Family to carry the tradition forward, as they are doing. I would add, a job they are currently doing with great dignity, and commanding a great deal of respect and affection.

I thought Crown Princess Margareta and Princesses Elena, Sofia and Maria were Hohenzollerns, descendants of the Hohenzollern Kings of Romania, and daughters of the last King of Romanian (also a Hohenzollern).

But I guess women don't count, for some.

Former King Michael has cut all ties with the Hohenzollerns and since then neither he nor his daughters use the title and/or surname Prinz (Prinzessin) von Hohenzollern anymore.

His son-in-law started the use of the fantasy title Prinz von Hohenzollern-Veringen which was more or less allowed by the previous Fürst von Hohenzollern, ignoring it a little bit. But his son, Prince Karl Friedrich, the present Fürst, was sharp on this. He stated that Mr Radu Duda was no Hohenzollern at all and classified the title "Prince von Hohenzollern-Veringen" as a farce. Veringen is one of the Hohenzollern fiefs, the Fürst also being Graf von Veringen. It is part of the Hohenzollern patrimonium.

The Fürst announced a lawsuit when Mr Radu Duda would use this surname and title once again. Since this Mr Radu Dudua wisely stopped styling himself as "Prince Radu von Hohenzollern-Veringen" or even as "Prince Radu von Hohenzollern-Veringen-Duda". After this internal family-clash former King Michael severed all ties with his ancestral House.

There is no more a Mr. Radu Duda than there is a Kate Middleton, and H.R.H Prince Radu carries the title 'Prince of Romania' through marriage, just as H.R.H Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia or H.M Tsaritsa Margarita of Bulgaria. It is solidly within established tradition that it is a Sovereigns prerogative to change the designation of the Royal House of a country, as was done by King George V in the United Kingdom after the Great War. The first monarch came from the Hohenzollern family, but the designation of today appropriately reflects where the family comes from, and whom they serve. How that can be criticized, continues to elude me.

As you probably unintentionally illustrate with this post yourself, the Romanian Royal Family stands well on its own, and as it celebrates 150 years since the establishment of the Romanian kingdom, they are the ones who naturally carry the monarchical tradition in Romania, and not the princely House of Hohenzollern, who formed the basis for its start, once upon a time.

Who is the painter of this portrait? Is there anywhere just the portrait itself?

As you can read from the Google translation I posted:
"oil portrait of Queen Elena, painted by Valentin Tanase. The portrait will be placed in the entrance hall of the school".

Thank you :) pity there isn't the whole portrait pictured.
