At the previous time King Michael was not rich at all , his daughters 's weddings were law key weddings.

As you Duke, I wonder where is the money coming from?
When Prince Lorenz came recently to a glittering Event , I am sure he had a bodyguard as a King's son in law and King's brother in law. He was then only foreign royal guest . Why??

Of all the former reigning Royal Houses The Romanian RF do a lot of entertaining and on a grand scale,I often wondered where they get the resources.

The Romanian Royal Family has different properties (lands, residences) that allow the Family to organize different events.

Prince Nicolae posted to his Facebook a link to a photo gallery of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Romania, photos from 20th-21st March.

The King has been given Elisabeta Palace at his disposal, so he lives for free. In 2001 Săvârșin Castle and the domain were returned to King Michael. In 2008 the large domain of Sinaia including Peleș Castle and Pelișor Castle were returned to the King. The last two castles are given in use to the State of Romania and as a museum. I think the King is financially compensated for that. For the rest he will have income from rents paid by the tenants living and working on his domains. So I guess the King and his family are no longer "poor".

:flowers:

Can anyone clarify if the Elisabeta Palace has been placed at his disposal for his lifetime only (as a former head of state) or is it for his heirs and successors as well?
Thanks,
Andy

King Michael writes at the "Fundamental Rules Of The Royal Family Of Romania" on 30th December 2007:
At present, the Elisabeth Palace is the official residence of the King and his family during his lifetime.
Decisions regarding the royal residences can be revoked or changed by the Head of the family at any time.

I haven't found yet if there has been made changes to this.

According to the following article, King Michael, Queen Anne, Crown Princess Margarita and Prince Radu were to have lifetime rights to use Elisabeta Palace per a bill that was being discussed in the Romanian Parliament at the time (in 2005).

Where does HRH Prince Nicolae reside?

The King's grandson lives on his own and not in the official residence of the King.

In this interview I posted a couple of days ago prince Nicolae tells that he lives at an apartment close to the Elisabeta Palace.

The Palace is the official residence of the Sovereign and belongs to the state. After the passing away of the Sovereign the state could ask the King's Family to leave the Palace unless a special law is voted.

I don't understand. There is no Sovereign in Romania: it's a republic. Do you mean that it is the official residence of HM King Michael personally for his lifetime only? Could you provide a reference to a reliable source which states that the state has made this grant to him for his lifetime only?

Thanks

The Law 406/2001 was about the former Heads of state and the right to have a residence during their lifetime.

It is important that he attended both Orthodox and Greek-Catholic celebrations for Easter respecting the two traditional Romanian Churches.

Prince Nicolae talks at an interview about how he got the idea to the charity bicycle race for over 1000 kilometres. Nicolae tells about his training to the race and how he sees his role in Romania now.
"In Romania the level of reading is alarming compared to other European countries. Over 53% of Romanian have problems with reading, a person spends only 4 euro per capita for books, while the European average is 100 euros per capita. I have met children who at the age of 10 can't read, children who grow up at homes where there are no books and who received the first book in their lives through the Association Curtea Veche.
"The idea was born in April of last year when the Curtea Veche wanted to raise funds and have visibility to carry out projects to promote reading. I refused to hold a ball or a dinner which are usually done. We believe that these events would be too restrictive for our goals to encourage reading at national level. I tried to find a suitable event, one night I had a dream, then for four weeks in a row I had the same dream. Clearly a sign, so I began to analyze that dream. What I can tell you that this is related to cycling through Romania."
"I started to think about this in 2007 when I realized that I have to take a quick decision about my life, family and my legacy. From 2007 until April 2010 I came to Romania several times, I was visiting their Majesties in Switzerland, we discussed with the family and friends of Romania, about the role and my future, about the importance of the Romanian Royal family. Now I can state that I found my way in life, I am very happy."

Nicolae and his teammates arrived to Dej at about 18.30.
"The track was hard and long, but well; it was as I expected. I'm glad I arrived but I'm very tired now. It was very difficult, but I try to promote sports and reading, two things that go hand in hand with education", said Prince Nicolae, and thanked the people who had come to see him.
