Death & Funeral of Her Majesty, Queen Anne of Romania - 01 August 2016

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The Queen's grandson, Nicholas Medforth-Mills said the grandmother was the closest person during childhood and that he admired the strong personality for what he gave the King the support it needed.
Fostul principe Nicolae: Bunica mi-a fost cea mai apropiata persoana in copilarie; am admirat-o pentru inima ei imensa

I have read it on his FB and I was a bit surprised. Usually a parent or a sibling would be the clostest person to a child. That he thought his grandmaman in far away Switzerland was the closest person during childhood is at the one side sweet from Queen Anne but at the other side surprising: what about mama, papa and sister Karina?

It is not clear yet if the Queen will have Catholic funerals in Bucharest and Orthodox prayers at the burial in Curtea de Arges. She should have had only Catholic Funerals because she was Catholic.

The Royal Family of Romania website is now up and running - it seemed to be closed yesterday. Here is the official announcement of Queen Anne's death in English:

Her Majesty Queen Anne of Romania has died | Familia Regală a României / Royal Family of Romania

The website has also compiled a list of 92 facts concerning the Queen accompanied by a lovely photograph of her:

Regina Ana a României – 92 de fapte în 92 de ani | Familia Regală a României / Royal Family of Romania

Some of the things on the list included:

Her love of cycling and fishing.

She worked at the Macy’s store and Bloomingdales in New York during her time there studying art.

King Michael fell in love with Anne long before she knew. During the war, he saw news footage from Morocco where Anne worked as a nurse and saw her image for a few seconds. He asked the film operator to cut those parts of the film and turn them into small photos that he kept discretely.

During their time living in exile in England, the Queen made furniture instead of buying it so as to save money.

Every time the royal couple moved into a new house, the first song was heard Poema Romanian by George Enescu, a kind of musical blessing of the house.

King and Queen renewed their marriage vows in a Catholic ceremony in Monaco in 1966.

The Queen bred dogs over time and the last pair of dogs she had were chihuahuas named Bianco and Bambi.

Queen Anne hair colour was always natural and never whitened.

I am really sad for the King. This is a great loss for him and he must be devastated that his health does not allow him to take part on her last way to rest.

The King visited his wife every day at the hospital during the last week of her life, in spite of his own health and frailty. It just goes to show the devotion they had for one another, but even so it is indeed dreadfully sad that he cannot attend his wife's funeral.

We know her better now she passed away.
Wat great and happy smile she had.

Funeral 13th August.

Giving his age and illness, he may soon follow her...

Interesting. All this, and not even for a former head of state, "just" for a spouse of a former head of state. Impressive.

Its almost a State Funeral, very deserving for the last queen of Romania.

The Romanian Socialist President , Governement and Authorities will be seen all over the world.

It would be kind of strange when the funeral of a Queen-Consort from a King whom reigned 60 years ago -and living abroad- would generate more interest than the funeral of the late Queen Fabiola of the Belgians in an empty and desolate Brussels. I would love it to see the Romanians to come out and bring homage. At the same time it would feel me with sadness again about what I saw from Brussels during Fabiola's funeral.

Queen Fabiola did want very simple Funerals , her Coffin on the Ground like Pope jean Paul II and her various Decorations were not seen. You were not at Brussels at that time . A terrible stormy cold December weather
I will see if the royal attendence will be the same and it will be in August

There has not been a royal funeral in Romania in almost eighty years. King Michael and, by extension, Queen Anne already enjoy an almost venerated status in some spheres of Romanian society. That combined with the fact that they could not enter the country for the first forty-odd years of their marriage, that they lived with such discretion, and that they practically never put a foot wrong, combined to make interest in them rather high.

Quintus: Hopefully, Queen Anne becomes model for all Romanians treasuring genuine people - Stiri pe surse - Cele mai noi stiri

I'd imagine that there will be quite a large royal gathering in Bucharest for the queens funeral.

The King was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

Thank you for confirming this - I did go back and read the illness thread. I'm trying to gather correct information and news for another royal site that I sometimes post to as well.

Certainly this entire family is in my deepest prayers for healing and peace and my heart is breaking for King Michael that he is unable to attend Queen Anne's service and the surrounding events. :rose:

I hope there will be Danish royal representation at the Queen's funeral, she was the daughter of a Danish Princess after all (and granddaughter of a very well-respected Danish Prince).

I don't think it's very unusual. Many times, I think, the bonds between grandparents and grandchildren can be a whole lot stronger than those of parents and children. Doesn't mean that you don't also love your parents and siblings. I think Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark would say the same thing about Queen Ingrid.

I wasn't on here or Twitter yesterday, so only learning this sad news now. :(

As sad as this news is, it also was expected due to Her Majesty's ill health and increasing frailty these past few years and I pray she is now resting in Peace. She truly led an incredible and long life. I did not know Her Majesty served in the Free French Army during WWII and received The Croix de Guerre for her service. That is not awarded to just anybody for just anything and that alone deserves respect.

May she rest in peace.
quite worried about the kings health, emotional pressure and Distress has become increasingly recognized as a factor that can reduce the quality of life of cancer patients

I just said this exact thing to my Mom. It would not shock me at all if His Majesty follows his Queen in a few months. Of course I'm not ill wishing the King, but we all have either seen for ourselves or heard stories about Couples who were so close and so a part of the other that when one passed away, their other half only lived for a short time afterwards. I have a feeling Their Majesties will be one of those Couples. :(

My Condolences to His Majesty, The Royal Family, their Extended Family and Friends.

I just got Gone With The Wind from iTunes the other day & watched it yesterday to make sure it downloaded properly. W/that in mind, I think Capt Butler's words on speaking of Melanie's passing, fit perfectly here....

A great Lady. A very great Lady

Yes. Her Majesty certainly was.

May she be at Peace. :( :(

I know GD Jean is likely in no shape, but I do hope some Lux royals go. Anne and Michael had their first real interaction through Jean at the Lux embassy. Their dads were brothers.

Her only living 1st cousins are on the Parma side. Her Danish cousins are all dead.

Luxembourg: I don't know about Henri but one of his brothers or kids?

Netherlands: Irene's former husband was Anne's cousin. I could see 1 or 2 of their kids attending.

Belgium: Lorenz and Astrid. Lorenz's dad was her cousin. They attended the couple's diamond anniversary celebrations.

She has a handful of nieces and nephews. We may see a few Greeks, Michael's family, but they seem close.

The Albanians, the Bulgarians, the Russians and the Savoy-Aostas are also likely to be there.

Condolences to Queen Anne's family and friends.

GD Henri and Prince Sebastien will be at the Rio Olympics although I don't know how long they're staying. Perhaps someone can return earlier. Otherwise, the GDF is quite large so I assume someone will go.
