60th Birthday Celebrations of Crown Princess Margarita, March 2009

Crown Princess Margarita celebrated her 60th birthday on thursday and friday with a concert and a diner party. The diner was a surprise to the princess, who was emotional when she hold a speech to thank the guests for coming. Among the guests: crown princess Alexander and crown princess Katherine of Serbia, archduke Marin of Austria-Este and his brother archduke Lorenz, prince of Belgium. Queen Anne did not attend the diner btw.

Dutch programme 'Blauw Bloed' interviewed King Mihai, Cpss Margarita, her husband and Nicholas de Roumanie Medforth-Mill. I did not know that in the future Nicholas will be called prince of Rumania with an HRH to accompany it.

King Mihail stated that when Nicholas will be 25 (1st april 2010), he will use the title and the style of Prince of Romania.

More pictures about the festivities on the website of prince Radu:

Blog - Alteta Sa Regala Radu, Principe al Romaniei

Note that the two younger sisters of princess Margarita (Sophie and Maria) did not attend, Elena and Irine however did.

-
Archduke Dominic of Austria Tuscany also attended the party, he is the son of princess Ileana of Romania, aunt of king Michael.

This was regulated in the Decree which was issued on 31.12.2007.

Thanks a lot to everyone.

Maybe I should post it on the other thread but
Crown Princess Margarita is a CP after her father's designated but not by 1923 Constitution. So after 2007 she is or she is not a CP?

.

As Romania is still a republic it is very improbable that the Parliament will pass a law regarding the heir to the Romanian throne, so from today's constitutional point of view Princess Margarita has no official status in Romania.
On the other hand there is the Romanian Royal Family within which Princess Margarita is the heir of her father i.e. the Crown Princess. She has another (future)title, too: the holder or safekeeper of the crown.

Queen Anne is looking very frail (she turns 86 later this year) and attended some of the birthday celebrations. King Michael will turn 88 in October.
The Queen can be seen in many pictures in the extensive Prisma gallery kindly posted by giov.
The pictures are clickable to larger size.

Atlantic Eye: Romania's princess at 60
15 April 2009

BUCHAREST -- The honor guard stood in full regalia as King Michael and Queen Anne strode the staircase to their waiting guests. The media in tow, the cameras flashing, Crown Princess Margarita and Prince Radu, who has just announced he is running for president of Romania, followed close behind. I had already entered the imposing hall. Last month, Margarita turned a youthful 60.

Seventy-five selected guests were hosted for a two-and-a-half day soiree. It included royals, nobles and personalities from public life, art and academia. It was a magnificent balance of esprit de corps and jubilation. It was classical music, gala opera and disco. It was, in short, a wonderful tribute to a very worthy lady from her loving husband, family and friends...

It is considered inappropriate by many people, Romanian and non-Romanian. It is more than obvious from the curriculum vitae of the gentleman that he is not suitable for the role of royal consort.
And what I find very strange is that princess Margarita had once - as a student - an affair with former prime minister Brown of Great Britain which means that she is capable of discriminating taste when it comes to choosing one's partner in life.
Something similar to the case of Margarita of Romania, was the choice of his second consort by crown prince Alexander of Serbia.
If such royal marriages could be accepted [at all] in western Europe where people are more down to earth, they in no way can be approved of in the Balkans, where people expect a royal to be a royal or of superior social credentials.

Princess Margareta is a wonderful lady but she loses quite a lot of popularity because of her husband.
