The discreet charm of the godmother

The baptism of the last granddaughter of Kings de Spain Irene Urdangarin and Borbon will give back to the covers of all the magazines to Rosario Nadal, the Majorcan who never has looked for protagonism but has obtained an enviable social status. It is said in Majorca that when Rosario was a girl her mother, Isabel Puig de Orfila, told her “I will make a princess of you”. The happy end usually only happens in fairy tales. But years later in 1989, Rosario turned in princess of Preslav when marrying Kiryl Saxony Coburg-Ghota, the second son of Simeon of Bulgaria and Margarita Gómez-Acebo.

Since then Rosario of 36 always go steps back the protagonists of the image, but is present all the time, always discreet, maybe shy, as if she could not believe that the next day Marie Chantal Miller and Pablo of Greece will have supper at her house of London, that two days later can be guest again by another friend of hers, Hugh Grant to the opening of his last movie or that maybe this summer Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit of Norway will turn to spend some days at her house of Majorca..

Some days ago, Queen Sofía, Urdangarin and all the grandsons of the Kings, had lunch in the Club of Tennis of Barcelona with Rosario Nadal and the future godfather of little Irene’s baptism Pedro López Quesada, who married with Cristina de Borbón Two Sicilies, the daughter of the Infante Don Carlos. In the lunch they talked about the baptism ceremony, which will take place in July. The Dukes of Palm have chosen to one of their better friends as godmother of their daughter. It was in Palma and into the Prince Felipe and the Infantas social clique where Rosary met Kiryl of Bulgaria, at the end of the 80´s. To the photographs of the island, that know everybody, it was difficult to recognize the girl who appeared with the most attractive of Simeon´s children. Until one said: ..But if she is the daughter of Nadal, the one of the bicycles.

His grandfather, Miguel Nadal Commas, a great bussinessman of the island, was the first man who sold bycicles in Majorca and established a cycling team called Minaco, a word that groups its name and surname. Later he will have franchises of good foreign automobile marks, in the same way his son, Rosario’s father, today sells the cars of Porsche and Saab. Good retailers who furthermore related to the local nobility. The last name Puig de Orfila of the mother of Rosario Nadal corresponds to the calls butifarras., the descendants of those horsemen ennobled by King Jaime I by his help to the conquest of the island. The wedding of Rosario with Kiryl of Bulgaria in the military church of the real palace of the Almudaina was not so unequal socially as some magazine defender of aristocratic orthodoxy presented in that moment. Rosario Nadal did not make important studies, but she was a girl of a wealthy family elegant, attractive, without past, without scandals, and extremely educated, without apparent pretensions to climb.

A bit later the pair settled in London, where Kiryl works like a broker in City, Rosario started to work at Christiés auctions. She attended the telephone during the sales, taking care of speaking Spanish clients. Later she was in charge of an Italian gallery and now works like freelancer looking for works of art for collectors. Without leaving the world of the art, during some years she was image and muse of Valentino too. She already left fashion, but continues being a good friend of the designer. Rosario, Kiryl and its three children, Mafalda, Olimpia and Tassilo, usually sail every summer by Balearic waters in the yacht of the designer Valentino who appreciates much his friend Rosario and admires to her attractive husband Kiryl too. His watches towards the young prince are sometimes very eloquent.

Besides of a floor in the centre of Palm, the parents of Rosary have a good house in the Colony San Jordi, in the coast, but Kiryl and his wife receive to their friends at a little house for vacations that they have in Porreras, in the centre of Majorca the aridest zone of the island, where had supper in some occasion Prince Felipe and the actress Gwyneth PaTRFow. Rosario was one of the few guests to Claudia Schiffer birthday party at the restaurant La Cuchara de Palma, one of the King’s favourites. In London, Rosario travels in the tube or bus. Neither their friendships nor social position of her father-in-law, today prime minister of Bulgaria, have turned her conceited.
