Haya set to achieve a rare feat

Dubai : Princess Haya Bint Hussain of Jordan, who was among the first Arab women to compete in an Olympic equestrian event, is soon to add another first to her long list of accomplishments in the equestrian arena.
A show jumper of international class, Princess Haya not only represented Jordan in the Sydney Olympics, but had also qualified to represent Jordan in the same discipline at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain in 2002.

In 2004, Princess Haya took her first strides in endurance and months later she soon reached the top in this equestrian discipline too.

And on January 27, when Princess Haya starts in the World Endurance Championship as part of the Jordanian national team, she will have entered the record books as the first Arab woman to represent her country in two separate disciplines in two consecutive world championships.

Princess Haya, who took part in a series of rides during the summer of 2004 in Europe, extended that form to the 2004-05 domestic season in the UAE in the build-up to the world championship.

Her first ever completion came in a major 160-km event in New Market in June 2004.

Immediately after that she struck success, winning the two-day 160-km Wicklow Hills ride in Ireland on Tabatha.

Her dream run of success in endurance continued with an eighth place finish in Euston Park in Britain followed by a superb win in Thetford Forest over 160 kms on Flambeur des Mas.

That win in September was followed by another finish in the 120-km Gubbio ride in Italy and the champion show jumper from Jordan was ready for the World Endurance Championship.

With two good results in the strongest fields here in December, Princess Haya served notice of her intentions. She did very well to finish a 160-km two-day ride at the Emirates International Endurance Village in Al Wathba and a week later she finished eighth in another similar 160-event on Rowallan Miss at the same venue.

An accomplished rider, Princess Haya has also won the Jordan National Show Jumping Championships five times and blazed the tracks as an amateur jockey.

Apart from taking part in ladies amateur flat-races in Ireland, Princess Haya has also participated in flat racing here in Nad Al Sheba with success.

Part of a six-member Jordanian squad of riders, Princess Haya will not only be a key and inspirational figure to her country's chances, but will also be among a dozen or so women riders who will be bidding to take a shot at the individual title.

Princess Haya is expected to ride RA Jestic Diamond in the World Championship.

The other members of the Jordanian team are: Mohammad Al Kurdi (Hasna), Jehdad Shhaltough (Qual), Subhi Khalil Al Jawarsheh (Assil Shah), Yara Aslan (Mahboub Sultan) and Mohammad Abdul Hameed (Otban).

Well,I think it's great that she's recycling,it's something inexpectable from a young arab royal,it proves that she didn't go mad for fashion even when she married Mo.

One of the pics was published in Al Khaleej newspaper, not sure if it's one of these but they did publish a photo, even more,in an arabic music channel based in the UAE called Music Plus, many people sent congrats wishes through SMS to her,she was called "The Arabian Night",senders were Emarati and from different countries,I believe people are beginning to accept her,it's a matter of time I guess.

Regarding traditional Jordanian dresses -- are they regional or family-specific?

For example, in Scotland families have tartans that are tied to their names and when the men don their kilts, they are usually their family tartan rather than just any pattern that they like.

And in Norway, the bunads are associated with the region of Norway that you are from and there is something special as part of the women's costume that lets others know if you are married or single.

The few pictures of Haya in traditional dress I've seen are very beautiful (very rich colours) while I see Noor in very bright colours. Just a preference or due to something specific?

It is Regional specific. If i am not mistaken, traditional or national dresses in the Arab world are regional not family specific as you described in your examples.

Just wanted to say that I think Princess Haya looks good in the pantsuits. Also I think someone mentioned that she has green eyes... are they really green or hazel?

Haya Eye Color

Well, her mom had gorgeous green eyes.....I don't really know.....sometimes they appear hazel brown/green; othertimes, very green. Might be the lighting....or color she is wearing. Very lovely photos though. She is such a striking woman although I do like her appearance better when she is not wearing really tight clothing.......

Haya's mother, Queen Alia

Her mother is the beautiful Jordanian Queen Alia, who was killed in 1977 in tragic helicopter crash. I could post an image but see the Queen Alia thread and you will see some gorgeous images of Alia....the resemblance between Alia and Haya is so striking!!!!

SEVENTH! Where are all the other photos. The Department of Health and Medical Services needs to get a better photographer, he's a bit slow with those pictures

I'm happy to see Haya getting involved in her new country.

The terrific part is she get's to be mentioned in his official site, it's displayed in different languages, has thousands of hits daily as I read once in a magazine. So if he allowes her to be mentioned in such a global medium, why he's blocking her in the local media? Can't stop wondering....
