Well, if they marry and spend 20 years together discreetly supporting the family, we'll know it was a genuine shift in priorities.

If they last a year and then she writes a tell all and gets her own reality show, we'll know it wasn't.

Time reveals all :)

Sadly i sense more of the later. Carl Philip is so blind. But you know how men are.

I love how everyone on this board knows Sofia better than the actual people associated with her; and also happen to know what the RF thinks of her.

There's no way she could have received this news gleefully. She isn't going to try to stay with this establishment when they obviously don't want her around.

She will stay as long as C-P wants her. He appears deeply bonded to her, I can't see him cutting her loose now just because she wasn't permitted to attend this latest event.

She attended the Magnusson wedding and Daniel's birthday party, both very recent events.

This latest "humiliation" might be the catalyst for C-P to propose, similar to when Prince Charles finally married Camilla when she was not permitted to sit with him at a society wedding.

Just want to say i tend to respect everyone's opinion. Doesn't mean I agree. But i respect your opinion amd that you have a right to that opinion. Now with that being said.... I simply think Sofia will have a hard time in the royal life. Id rather see CP with someone with less objections. That's all...

I agree, but I think most royal girlfriends/boyfriends go through something similar. If you read the engagement thread of Mary Donaldson people called her an illiterate gold digger who set out with the intention of snagging a prince; Daniel Westling was compared very unfavourably to Victoria's previous boyfriend and especially to Madeleine's former boyfriend Jonas; and posters were quite nasty about Christopher O'Neill right up to the wedding day. It doesn't seem to take too long for opinions to change once posters have seen a royal wedding, some tiaras, nice gowns and a few orders and decorations.
As far as Sofia is concerned I am still waiting to read what actual Swedes think of her relationship with CP. Most posts seem to be from Americans and well that doesn't really carry much weight since she is a Swedish woman who may one day marry a Swedish prince so Swedish opinion is the only opinion that really matters.

That´s certainly true, even if they get married, she receives a royal title and does some charity work, Sofia H. will have a really hard time. Keeping the private life private, doing some meaningful work and staying away from the press would be the best way to go IMO. People do not forget so quickly just because they see her in tiaras and elegant gowns.
If we look at some of the "unconventional" women who married into Royal families- they still have to struggle and work extra hard in order to get a positive feedback. CP Mette-Marit,Camilla,CP Letizia and also Mabel W.S constantly have to fight with negative headlines and mean-spirited comments about their personality and things of the past. In Spanish magazines CP Letizia is receiving a lot of hateful, mean and nasty reports with stories that are obviously completely made up and not even partly true and Camilla is forever demonised by some of the die-hard Lady Diana-supporters...
With Sofia H´s lifestyle and her love for the media she is quite an easy target. The only positive aspect is that the Swedish RF is not followed so much like the British RF and therefore they have more freedom and less paparazzi stalking than Catherine & William,Prince Harry and other members of the BRF.
I do not have anything against her personally, but I do not believe she would be a good role model for girls and there are many women who would do a better job at representing Sweden than a former soft-porn model.

@NGalatzine

I also want to know what the Swedish people feel, they are the ones that matter after CP and his family of course. Like you I don't believe the majority on here are Swedish. I'm surprised that I didn't see a lot of this royal potential spouse hate towards Kate Middldton. Then again I wasn't on the board until 2011. I tremble to think about what was said about Mette Marit.

There have been at least two Swedish posters recently and neither was exactly turning somersaults at the prospect of SH as the public face of the SRF.

A third Swede I met at the post office here in Los Angeles in June, and she was both disgusted and amused.

Oh, there was definitely lots of Kate hate before the engagement. Just peruse the old 'Kate and William relationship' threads and you'll see it.

Sofia is not the only one that has gone through this. Many of the royal girlfriends/boyfriends have been judged harshly. But once they've married into the royal family and people get to know them, opinions change (although some never do get over their dislike). So if Sofia marries CP, I imagine she'll become more acceptable and people will move on to the next "unsuitable" royal boyfriend/girlfriend.

Well, i took the liberty of looking up the last swedish post here (i have the flu and nothing better to do  ):
I'm Swedish. I can't say that I care too much about pictures taken of Sofia in the past. My biggest problem is her participation in Paradise Hotel.
....
Like many people here, I see an engagement announcement coming up very soon. I hope she has the guts to admit her past mistakes and do something genuine and honest in the future. If she does, I would be fine with her as Carl Philips wife.

I too noticed a lot of US-american participation in this thread, and while nobody applaudes Sofia's lifechoices, it seems there is one group of people willing to give her a chance if she admits to doing things wrong (and wanting to improve) and one group who judge her on her past and don't want her near the swedish royal family...
Although it's not black/white, the average US-poster seems to be in the second group

She has made some tacky choices, but maybe P.Carl Philip is into tack? Is she perhaps the ideal race car driver chick?

Stoppa pressarna quotes Expressen Extra's article. According to that Sofia wasn't at the King's list who the king wanted to be invited to the government dinner on Saturday (and obviously at other events too). That Sofia was invited to Madeleine's wedding, Annika Sönnerberg from the court press department says that Madeleine's wedding was more private, the media wasn't at the wedding dinner like in Victoria's and Daniel's wedding.
According to royal expert Sten Hedman the king very is careful to follow the rules in official contexts: It may seem a bit ridiculous but the king is always very fussy. Following the rules is important to him.

What I find "ridiculous" is that the king is apparently willing to welcome SH with open arms, but opposed Daniel Westling for so many years??

There is nothing ridiculous about it. Victoria is the Crown Princess which would make Daniel Westling a Crown Princess Consort and a Prince of Sweden, whereas Carl Philip is just third in line to the throne which would make Sofia Hellqvist only a Duchess of Whatever-CPs-Dukedom-is (can't remember it right now) and only if the king wants it a Princess of Sweden.

The disaster would have been way bigger if Daniel would have srewed up than when Sofia would screw up. For Daniel there was never a way out of the job "man next to the Crown Princess" whereas Sofia could choose to stay a private person (like Chris did when he married Madeleine) while Carl Philip continued to be a Prince of Sweden and do royal duties. Looking at things like this it's only logical that Daniel had to fight harder to show he's worth being the husband of his very own Princess.

I don't know why people never think about this when they compare Daniel to Sofia or Chris. Daniel simply can't be compared to them. He fell in love with a heir. Sofia and Chris didn't. It's as simple as that.

Well first off. Flowers. Secondly tea with Elizabeth R and some glitter doesn't cure public opinion. CP of Norway has been married for years and her former bad behavior is still he primary thing she's even known for. Also just wanted to say in general that everyone on this forum are simply expressing opinions. (None of which are truly relevant. Lol ) so its no need to debate the right of an opinion. Just my opinion. :)

At least Daniel was a business owner.

THANK YOU for that last part!
I haven't labelled SH supporters amoral lovers of sleaze, and I am more than a little fed up with the implication that those of us who don't feel she should be a representative of the SRF are righteous and intolerant.

I am not saying she is evil or bad, I simply don't think she's the best choice for the Royal house. I could be proven wrong, but I don't see any indication that she is not as thrilled with the limelight now as she was when she was doing reality TV and posing naked with handcuffs.

Finally someone who gets it ! I feel the same way. Im not saying burn her at the stake. Im just saying I don't admire her obvious Kardashian ways. Lol

Yes, it is understandable that Daniel was treated a little differently. But the king and the royal court treated Jonas and Emma the same way. Just after Sofia came into the picture everything changed.
Daniel, Emma and Jonas couldn't spend the Christmas Eve at the Royal Palace with Victoria, Carl Philip and Madeleine on Christmas 2008 (two months before Victoria and Daniel got engaged), because "only the family celebrates the Christmas Eve together", said Nina Eldh, who was then the director of the press department. But Sofia has been invited to christening, funeral and weddings of the royal family members.

That can be seen as a bit apples and oranges.

Daniel didn't attend Christmas Eve celebrations because he wasn't family. Has Sofia attended Christmas Eve celebrations? If she has, then she's being held to a different standard.

Did Daniel attend any christenings, funerals, or weddings pre-engagement (if there were any)? The argument can be made that these types of events aren't for just the family, and that's the difference.

Some people are able to learn from the past and move forward. Others remain stuck in the past. HM is obviously able to move forward.

Also there more than a few people on these boards who found Daniel wanting in terms of his qualifications to become consort to the heir to the throne and said he definitely did not measure up when compared to Jonas or to Victoria's previous boyfriend so HM was not alone if he really had any doubts about Daniel.

I fully agree as well!

Me also - the reality series participation and what the premise of that show was makes my skin crawl. I am not old fashioned, Victorian, a prude, a spinster, an old maid, not even that old age wise, I do leave my house, I have dated when I was younger and am now married so please no one think I am an "old fogey" who sits in her rocking chair cackling madly about all of these young whippersnappers LOL:)

Could things have changed when some of the 'dirt' on the King became public.?

Possibly. That, and as the old saying goes "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!"

AMEN!

There are limits, there have to be limits, and this is a point where limits have to be set. Let CP go off in the sunset with his bikini babe, but don't let her represent the nation as a newly minted princess and diplomatically recognized head of state if she goes to international conventions.

Another option would be that she is not a princess, but ends up being a Baroness and then be there only when CP is, no more and no less. No independent agenda, no personal crusades, no going off on jaunts to UN conventions/meetings and no meeting heads of state in her own right.

Either way, there should be a consequence and condition either way. She has no business getting an "HRH" and if, despite Mabel's many accomplishments, Friso had to renounce his place in the succession to marry her, CP should be expected to renounce or lower his rank.

I honestly find your stance that Sofia's past be used to significantly hamper her future options shortsighted.

First of all- Sofia will never be recognized as a head of state any more than Carl Philip will because neither of them will EVER be a head of state. That honor will go to Victoria, and then Estelle.

Second, the idea that because Sofia worked as a nude model she's unworthy of being accorded the rights that would normally come with marriage to a Prince- that seems to me to be a modern version of the Scarlet A. Pin it on her and make sure she knows she's not good enough and not worthy to be treated as equal to her husband. I find that idea archaic and overly judgmental.

Third, Mabel married into a different royal family and- and this is important- the decision that Friso should renounce to marry her did not come from the royal family and came about under totally different circumstances.

The bottom line is Sofia can marry CP, but she should not have the princess title.

Except Sweden no longer practices morganatic marriages. Which means that if she marries CP people are going to have to suck it up because she'll be a princess.

Exactly! What people fail to realize is that people aren't saying he can't have his Kardashian. Just let het remain a private subject so she can do all the reality shows and porn make out sessions she wants. Without the HRH...

The bottom line is Sofia can marry CP, but she should not have the princess title.

Exactly no HRH for her. To be completely honest not even a noble title like Baroness just a Mrs will suffice: )

Except Sweden no longer practices morganatic marriages. Which means that if she marries CP people are going to have to suck it up because she'll be a princess.

The Scandinavian royal families are some of the most respected in Europe. If things happens people may suck it up but i think it may weaken the dynasty in the long run. What do you think? :)
