Press Reports about Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist, Part 2: April 2012 - June 2014

Surely the press is interested in Sofia because of her past and her likely engagement. But there is a difference between the press' interest and actively looking for the camera everytime at every event.
 
Just my two cents, but there are thousands of snaps taken, and one would have to go through all, or the majority, of them to get a real sense of how many shots show her looking for the camera.

Otherwise, as scientists say, you have "selection bias."
 
I've thought about this and you generally don't see as a group royals at a social event that they hosted or an event that they attended seeking out the camera or wanting to be the center of attention by being photographed. Most seem to want to be low-keyed and have a few pictures taken and that was it. The photos that they take of them are not flashy nor do they make themselves the center of attention.

The same was true of their partners who also didn't seek the limelight. Avoiding it seemed to be what they did. My guess is that this was some type of understanding or something that they figured out on their own to be low-keyed. Probably was never discussed with them but they knew this unwritten rule as they saw what happened to others that violated this or other similiar unwritten rules.

I've literally never seen any Royal guests seeking the cameras and grinning wildly at them like Ms. Hellqvist.

If you have examples, I'd love to see them.
 
Hmmm. I can think of one other person who married into Royalty who liked to look into the camera and liked the attention. She was loved by the people. Why is Sofia wrong for doing the same thing?

Oh wow, it's Grace!! Never saw this pic before. I, at this point, do not have a favorable view of Carl Philips significant other. Hopefully it will change, but wowie some of the things I have read and seen about her.....

I'm sure the moderators don't want the sites named but there are forums dedicated to snarking on royalty and there you can find just as many photos of Mary of Denmark, the Duchess of Cambridge, and many others that make them look like they are just seeking out the camera. In fact, the selection of many, many photos of Mary make her look like she cares about nothing BUT where the camera is.

In the last eight years or so of her life Diana was often seen looking into the camera with a hunted, frightened, tense expression...the result of being stalked by paps which she hated.

I don't think it's the same with Hellqvist. It's like apples and oranges, imo.:sad:

I was just thinking the same thing.

Even supposing that royals like Diana don't seek out the camera, Sofia is of a somewhat different position than many other royals.

It's kind of important to remember that most royals don't seek out fame, they're either born into it or it's something they're forced to deal with because of who they chose to marry. Well before she met CP, Sofia decided to pursue a career in the spotlight, however, and as such has developed a different relationship with the press than other royals. I think it's rather naive to assume that just because they aren't looking at the cameras other royals aren't aware of where they are, they just chose not to acknowledge them. For Sofia it simply seems more natural to - at times - smile at them, as it's what was more expected of her pre-CP. That doesn't necessarily mean that she's seeking them out or just with him because it adds to her fame, it just means that she has a different experience with and attitude towards the cameras.
 
I prefer to disagree,the way Sofia is always pushing herself into the pictures does not seem "natural" to me, but rather a desperate cry for attention... Of course she is dressing up, trying to look pretty & wants to get good pictures, but she should not try to jump in front of the camera every time she sees a photographer.
If we look at professional models like Miranda Kerr or Claudia Schiffer you will see that they are not posing or looking into the camera when they are out of work. They surely have a "different experience with and attitude towards the cameras", but they mainly use it for photoshoots and runway shows :)

I also think an egagemnt is looming...before the end of 2013. And a wedding in Spring /Summer 2014, after Madeleine's baby is born.

Yes, I agree with you. If Carl Philip and Sofia marry it will be after Madeleine and Chris's baby is born in the early spring of 2014, therefore I think a summer 2014 will take place.
 
From what I've seen at Madeleine & Chris's wedding, the photographers shouting Sofia's name a zillion times when she arrived, I think I would find it very hard to not look at them.

I think her dress and hairstyle was so much more elegant and sophisticated than what she wore for Princess Madeleine's wedding. I thought she was even too understated and didn't like the earrings for that event. Here she looks polished and appropriate (maybe she learned from her mistakes). Too bad for the tattoo in the back. Personally, I don't care for it.
 
Sofia and CP

I also think an announcement is due, yet what has happened to CP? He needs a shave and hair cut. I have read all about her past, we all make numerous mistakes growing up(I sure did) yet she went really over board in the entertainment area, something like that Miley whatever her last name is in Hollywood, (she is out of control), so maybe if she cleans up her act and stays away from the camera and dresses like a lady, act like a lady, she might work for CP. She doesn't deserve a title at all, those should be for the people that are born with them, not given to just anybody.

I do want to say something here, I am new here, came from another site(nameless) and they drove me crazy with their jealousy, hatefulness, spite and dangerous talk about royals. It's nice to see *conversations* where people can agree to disagree and still act nice to one another without all that drama.

she did "glamour" modeling and bikini modelling. She also did pics with reptiles and did a reality show I believe. If you decide to "google" her, a warning: many pics are "not safe for work". Not judging her, simply warning you!:flowers:

Google "Sofia Hellqvist photos" and judge for yourself.

Some people call that "glamour" modeling but it doesn't look very glamorous to me.

Sofia has also bragged about kissing a hardcore pornstar named Jenna Jameson.

What?? Okay that's disgusting, Jenna Jameson is icky to say the least. Why would ANYONE brag about such a thing?? That's sick.

What we can have read from the media, she hasn't been a pornstar. She has been so called glamour model and miss Slitz. Slitz is a swedish men's magazine and Miss Slitz is their own version of playmate of the year. Sofia attended also at the TV-reality show "Paradise Hotel". She herself told to the swedish press in 2005 that she kissed with pornstar Jenna Jameson in Las Vegas. There are hundreds of photos of her partying at the Stockholm nightlife with various men and women.

Because she was young, in Las Vegas, and did something silly? Not her best moment but it was also YEARS ago. Honestly, I could care less about how someone has their fun, as long as no one gets hurt.
 
No, not quite true that it was "years" ago. The porn star capers happened just before she met C-P and announced on Twitter "Pssst...wanna know a secret? I'm dating the Prince!"

"Years ago" is when she was shacking up in NYC with some man and playing mother to his little son.

In any case, right after she made her triumphant Twitter announcement she began to feverishly clean up her act. BTW, if there was nothing odious about her "glamour" modeling and her general lifestyle why did it grind to an immediate HALT after she made the acquaintance of HRH?

Right after she met C-P she ran off to Africa to found a charity, as the first step in her Princess makeover.
