But to be completely honest: I would never curtsy for Ernst August of Hannover even if he's from my own country, because I can't take this man seriously. He's just

Jaaa, but he is very blue blooded, isn't he KitKat? And he makes people like Mette-Marit and Daniel look very noble, behaviourwise.

He's the best example why it is a good thing to marry a commoner every once in a while. It brings you back down to earth and the real life. And royals, no matter if they're reigning or not, should understand how their subjects (is this the right word? ) live and what they're dealing with every day. That's one reason why I'm in the "pro-commoner-in-royal-families-party".

Your point is not clear. Ernst August did marry a commoner as his first wife and you still seem to think he's not "down to earth". Then it is not clear to me how certain commoners such as the super rich Marie Chantal Miller, Maria Teresa Mestre, Tatiana Santo Domingo, Sibylla Weiller etc would make their families more "down to earth".

First, his first wife has nothing to do with his very own gen pool and even if his first wife was a commoner, this point sadly did nothing to keep him "down to earth". I'm sorry, I don't want to insult E-A, but he's not a perfect role model of how a royal should behave.

Second, I only know Marie Chantal and no-one of the other women (sorry), but when I was referring to commoners I thought first and foremost of commoners like Mette-Marit, Maxima, Mary, Marie, Letizia, Daniel, Ari Behn, Claire (of Denmark) and yes, commoners like Sofia, Jonas or Emma who live/lived a perfectly common life before they where thrown / get themselves thrown into the royal circus. Those commonors know how normal life works compared to rich society daughters like Marie Chantal.

I don't hold it against Marie Chantal that she's a rich daughter, but she doesn't really know everyday live of the ordinary people (and their problems) like the other ones who actually lived this life for a part of their life (and know what problems need to be fixed). They're a better bridge to the ordinary people than some rich daughter. But even the rich daughter is good in the end to bring new, fresh blood into the royal circus. Therefore: pro-commoner-party.

I hope I did make myself more clear now. If not we can discuss this via PM, because I don't want to go to far off-topic here.

To be fair, Sibilla was never exactly a commoner; she didn't hold a title herself, but her mother was a Torlonia, and her great-grandparents were King Alfonso XIII and Queen Ena of Spain (which also makes her a descendant of Queen Victoria of the UK).

Anyway, to get back to the topic, I have a feeling all of the Swedish royals of CP's generation will marry either commoners or minor aristocrats. Royals marrying royals doesn't happen too often these days (which is fine, if you ask me -- I feel like they should all marry whomever they want, title or not).

I just think they have to be very careful to avoid marrying men and women who just want to be in the spotlight -- and I'd worry about that with Sofia because of her fame-seeking past. I'm sure she's a perfectly nice human being, but that would worry me if I were CP's family members.

Now I get your point! You like royal marrying common people with normale life experience. I use commoner meaning people without a title, so that's why I didn't understand immediately.
Of course EA's not being "down to earth" may be due to the environment he grew up in more than to his genes, but this is really off topic! Sorry guys

Getting back on the topic, Princess Madeleine was seen a few nights ago partying with Carl Philip's ex, Emma Pernald. According to the article, she refuses to meet with Sofia Hellqvist because she and Emma are such close friends.

Glad we are on the same boat! I don't know how the discussion turned to protoccol, but I've been taught to treat everyone as equal, regardless of their socioeconomic status etc...
At first, I kinda liked Sofia, being as pretty as she is and her smile seems so nice. But then I saw the pictures of her naked, where she was posing as a sexual object, and my tune changed. I think every woman in this board has encountered some sort of sexism in their life, and has experienced discrimination because of it, and it strikes me as quite vulgar if every Swedish and global person, will know what this potential future royal princess looks like naked, not in a candid shot, or with a wardrobe malfunction, but rather in a role of a sexual object, on their own choosing. THAT to me is just wrong. Maybe she can work with Q. Silvia's charity that centers on exploited sex slaves and the sex slave trade; that would help in redeeming herself. I stand by my comments btw-Lumutqueen and Kitkat 2006. I won't be repeating myself.

Is she that stubborn?
It was Emma who chose to end the relationship with CP, how is it going to offend Emma if Madeleine meets her?

Same here, ortino (and everyone who's agreeing with you). Same here. But I'm not sure if I can promise that I won't repeat myself. But at least I found out why a lot of you are so intolerant to Sofia and are not willing to give her a chance. Because now I know what it is what most of you've got in common. But that's all I'm going to say here.

If it is true then I understand where she's coming from. She's not being stubborn. She's just being loyal. This situation is about loyalty. Madeleine is friends with Emma which means she's on Emma's side.

I don't know why there have to be sides to be on. It was not a nasty break up like it was between Madeleine and Jonas. Carl Philip and Emma took a time out that turned into a permanent break up on a mutual agreement. There are no ill feelings between them (at least that's what I heard since they broke up). So why take sides? I don't get it.

Well, the most likely explanation might be that the whole story was made up by aftonblatet .

I was disgusted when I read the article that was on the Daily Express about the Swedish royal family. That article was very unfair to them So I guess if the King didn't marry a commoner, CP Victoria wouldn't have married Daniel, her sister wouldn't have a cheating fiance and CP Carl Phillip wouldn't be dating a model who posed nude. Give me a break. This is what the article is implying.

I could name royals who married royals throughout history whose children have had girlfriends or a few boyfriends they found unacceptable or unsuitable for marriage. True many of them didn't married these people but a few of these women ended up later becoming their mistress or a similar type woman became their mistress. I imagine it was rare for the woman to take her boyfriend as a lover after they parted. History books are filled with such stories over the centuries. In this case you can't blame a commoner for this happening. Twenty Five or Thirty years ago, you wouldn't hear about it so much as you do now. If this type of stuff didn't go on or exist until the 1960's, then you might wonder if there was some truth to it, which there isn't.

They are just offended that Sweden had this big, lovely wedding and the UK not even an engagement!

Hi, nascarlucy. I don't know if I was actually disgusted reading the article. My reaction was more along the lines "typical British tabloid press". IMO the overwhelming majority of the tabloids around the world, monarchy or republic, tend to feed on and glorify the worst in humankind.

In terms of monarchies, they tend to make many factual errors, assumptions, and provide very few, or more often than not, no actual sources.

In countries that are monarchies, the tabloids also tend to follow a general pattern...usually heaping all sorts of criticism on their own monarchs and royals until comparing them with others. The British are notorious for this. In this particular article, the Swedes are criticized for dating/marrying a non-royal/beneath their station (Daniel), dating/marrying someone of questionable morals (Sofia), and dating/marrying someone with a lack of fidelity (Jonas).

All of these criticisms apply to many royal relationships (including the royal-royal ones), but since this article contrasted the British royals with the Swedish, it might be useful to also compare the two.

Dated/married someone non-royal/beneath their station:
Charles & Diana, Charles & Camilla, Ann & Mark, Ann & Timothy, Ann & Tom Parker-Bowles, Andrew & Sarah, Andrew & Koo Stark, Andrew & Angie Everhart, Edward & Sophie, Harry & Chelsy, William & Kate, Beatrice & Dave, Freddie & Sophie, the Gloucesters, the Kents, the list goes on and on

Dated/married someone of questionable morals:
Camilla did have an affair with Charles while he was still married to Diana and she to Tom Parker-Bowles.

Koo Stark is an actress who starred in a sort-core porn film where she appeared topless.

Angie Everhart has posed for nude pictures (I think even without a snake covering her jiggly parts)

Dated/married someone with a lack of fidelity:
Camilla...again, Mark Phillips, Prince Philip, Charles, Diana, again the list goes on and on.

But the British royal family overall, following the lead of HM Queen Elizabeth II, carry themselves as if they are more royal than other royals. The press follows suit because the "scandals" of the Swedish are more interesting than anything going on with the British royals right now....Anne turned 60, smiled in a picture, and wore lipstick...BIG news week in England.

Other princes would and have dated models like Sophia, but it would never come into the light of day. The Swedish RF are different in the respect, that they actually respect people, even if they are not from their circles and do not hold secret mistresses.

I don't think offended is the right word, jealous perhaps. But these people are just bored.

The article was not that bad and it can be interesting for English people to know what happens abroad, it will help them not to be hyper critical towards their royal family.
The only annoying part of the article for me was when they looked down on Daniel because he was a personal trainer. That seems to me an honest and fair job and people who do it should be respected for that. Much better than Kate that isn't doing nothing but spending her parents' money and waiting for William's proposal!! And of little importance in a country whose queen is a previous hostess.
