Since the thread is about CP and Sofia Hellqvist, the title was changed to show that, especially now Nina Eldth confirmed the rumours about a relationship. When the thread started it was not clear if there was any truth in the rumours or how long Sofia would stay around, hence the more neutral title.

Thank You for letting me know, i've been away for a bit and when I left it was just about press reports on CP's love life, now it's about just Sofia.

I cant believe how low the Swedish Court gets by confirming the relationship and even blaming the media for "exploiting" Sofia Hellqvist.

Communication was never good, first the nine year struggle with Daniel, who supposedly wasnt good enough, then the engagement desaster with Jonas and Madeleine, now confirming a pin up girl as official partner of Carl Philip.

The whole court, including Queen Silvia, seem to be completely overwhelmed with the choices of their children. And obviously no brain is needed to become Head of Comms of the SRF.

Seriously: compared to the others Daniel was no struggle at all...
A quiet middle class boy, not flashy, not glamorous but never a hint of scandal. A smart boy I would say: he stayed in the background, continued his work, tried to better himself until he was ready and up to the task.

Jonas: looked good "on paper" all the right diplomas and social connections but a disaster indeed.
Sofia... well future will tell.

I can only repeat what I wrote some 15, 20 pages earlier:

If Sofia is the woman he loves right now, then let them live their love. I don't see why everyone is so worked up about them. This is the 21st century and not medieval times. Maybe you should be a little more open-minded.

Personally I think no-one can truly hold anything against her for making those pics. She did that long before she met CP and she didn't make new ones after she met him (at least not that I know of). So what's there to blame? I don't get it.

I like Carl Philip, I like Sofia and of she's the woman that makes him happy right now everyone should back off and leave them alone. Live your own life an let them be.

I love reading your posts.
This is one of my main points, when Sofia had those nude pictures taken, can anyone anywhere say that she knew one day she would be dating Prince Carl-Philip of Sweden? I think not. This is her past, CP is her present.

If we were talking about Joe Average I would agree. Pity that Carl Philip represents Sweden and is part of an institution that is being financed by the Swedish taxpayer. If he wants to live his life, then he should go ahead with all consequences, good luck. He cant have everything but if he wants to enforce it will be at cost of what he stands for, maybe not today or tomorrow, but for the next generation.
Yes, its 21st century, but then maybe the idea of monarchy and a royal family representing the country doesnt fit anymore unless its seen as modern to be represented by a not so royal family, people who used to be pin up girls, drug addicts, single mothers, divorcees or fitness instructors.

I have to agree with the Duke here.

Yes, she did do this in her past but if CP is not a regular guy.

I know this is a royalty board and we all in our own way have a different concept of what royalty means to them. I respect the history and the traditions of it. Yes, royals are like us but they are not. Because we if they are going to start living like us in all aspects then we don't need royals. We can just talk about the old traditions and history and call it a day.

And I am sorry, this is going to sound mean, snobby and anti feminist and it might offend some people but he can date he doesn't need to marry her. Cause IMO dating and marrying someone who has posed nude and appeared on a reality show (I mean really) does cheapen the monarchy.

That´s not mean and not anti-feminist. This is what I thought, too. They are young and CP is not the heir.
And I agree with the Duke about the nude pictures and drugs. But the another arguments, hmm?

Taking part in such kind of photos and such reality show says a bit about person, no matter that she did it in the past when she didn´t know her Prince. I am afraid too that with such people infiltrating into royal families all the royalty idea loses sense. Then it is just a celeb theatre of people dressed like royals, but not royals.
And to be honest, it is quite depressive to read comments like "we are living in 21th century, what is problem and blah blah". Some people seem to lose any sense of what is appropriate and what isn´t. It is sad, really.

Can't help but agree with you on this. A marriage between the two (or any girl with this sort of background) would cheapen the monarchy. Let's just hope that he's out having fun and will find a nice girl with a good background to settle down with.

I give that right back to you. Sometimes I think you're the only one here who's fair with with herself. I think a lot of those who want CP to be holier than the pope himself are not able to see what they demand of him. Yes, he is a prince and yes, he lives, in some ways, of the money of the swedish taxpayers (because if you take a closer look you won't see any appanages for him in the papers. Only for the king and the crown princess if I'm informed correctly. He only gets what daddy gives him. The SRF wouldn't get more or less money from the taxpayers with or without CP in the picture), but all this doesn't mean he does have to give up his privacy 24/7. He's still a human being. No-one ever took away his ability to make own decisions.

So, if Victoria (as heir) was allowed to marry a fitness coach, let CP have fun with a model who posed nude years (!!!) ago. No-one talks about them getting married (apart from some crazy german yellowpress magazines). And even if they will take this step some day in the future what's there to be mad about? Copyrights of those nude-pics can be bought from the court, said pics will get shut away and everything is peachy again in good, old Stockholm. If it will ever get this far I think Sofia will be a good princess. She seems very open-minded, self-confident and friendly to me. And what's most important: She makes CP happy.

Another topic that's making me scream everytime I read something or another about it is the question of CP 'lazy, crazy, funny bachelorlife'. Did it ever occur to you all that CP maybe want's to do something useful but doesn't get the OK from whomever (his parents, the court, the parliament, some silly law from whenever, etc) to do so? He wasn't to lazy to do military service, he went to university twice, he does design-things or photo-jobs every now and then, he did an internship at National Geographic and won a photo-competition in the U.S. years ago. He even does race and if his name wouldn't be Carl Philip Bernadotte but Fernando Alonso no-one would call this races a stupid, meaningless hobby. I'm sure he would really work, if everyone would really let him just work and live his own live. But think about the possibility if he really does so. He would never just be the average Carl or Philip. He would always stay a prince no matter what he does.

Everyone would blame him from running away from his royal commitments, everyone would blame him for living of tax money all his life, for getting a great education from said tax money and for giving nothing back. Everyone would blame him for being ignorant and thankless to those who made him to that what he would be right than. And he would still be followed around by paparazzi and be discussed in forums such as this because of his decisions that wouldn't be the right one, whatever those decisions would be. His royal upbringing is a double-edged sword. On the first look he's got everything, but on the second look he lives under a microscope and with the knowledge, that he can never make everyone of those, who pay for his lifestyle, truly happy.

Personally I wouldn't want to change with him and Sofia really has my due respect for putting herself under this microscope, too. Because she could avoid a life like that easily. She gains a lot if she holds on to CP as boyfriend, but she loses a lot, too. And that's not easy to handle for someone as young as her. CP had his whole life to learn to ignore negative arguments about his every moves, but Sofia (like every other significant other of every prince/princess) had to learn it the hard way. In my eyes, to live a life like this, has something to do with a lot of love and understanding. Because there is no way out, no matter what!!!

You all shouldn't forget he's not the heir (anymore). He's got more freedom than his big sister in every aspect of his life. So by all means, stop blaming him for doing something that's perfectly normal and natural for everyone of you: living a live, loving someone and making own decisions!

Agreed. Let's hope he's just having fun right now and he'll find a charming girl suitable for himself, that would make the monarchy even better.

BTW, didn't Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, had a relationship with a woman that had a similar background to Sofia's? I remember something like that and that didn't last long much. Probably that's the same case here. :P

The fitness instructor I could handle - at least he was making an honest living for himself. But the divorcees, single mothers, drug addicts, and pin up girls is just ridiculous. Where do we draw the line? Are citizens really supposed to look up to people like THAT? Not to mention support them? If royals want to marry people like that, then they should relinquish their titles. Taxpayers shouldn't have to support that type of stuff.

You don't sound mean or snobby at all. I completely understand what you're saying because it's the truth. If royal families are just going to throw all the rules and traditions out the window, then why bother having royalty anymore? Like you said, we may as well just call it a day and talk about history and the days when royalty actually followed the traditions they were supposed to follow.

Perfect way to describe it. Royalty has just turned into celebs that dress like royals.

I also don't understand this "21st century" excuse. The whole point of royalty is to continue and follow traditions from the past no matter what century we live in. If they aren't going to do that, why have royalty anymore?

I could have predicted this...emboldened by his big sister's successful struggle to marry HER commoner boyfriend, Prince CP now sees himself as the hero/protaganist in his own epic love story, fighting for the right to be with his decidedly downmarket lover to the end.

I am clinging to the hope that the King and Queen will finally grow a backbone and take control...since the dignity and prestige of the Royal House is at stake.

But I am not optimistic. I would not be a bit surprised if this indulged, spoilt young man gets his way and we see a former soft porn model flashing Bernadotte heirlooms in the near future.

Hats off to the poster who gave us the phrase "celeb theatre with people dressed up as Royalty" because that pretty much describes what we are seeing...in a generation or so there will be no difference between the world of tacky low class Hollywood and that of Royalty. In fact, in certain Royal families it has happened already...and don't be surprised when anti-monarchists decide not to support these people anymore.

Let these spoiled self-centered people go "live their love" and get 9-5 jobs to support themselves while doing it!

Good post, PetraHel. And I totally agree with what you've said. I wasn't born yesterday nor am I conservative, I don't have a problem with royals marrying commoners either, but a Prince marrying a pin-up girl? That sounds like a trashy soap opera to me and it's the opposite of what I'd expect from royalty.

If he loves her so dearly, he should draw the consequences. And again, I don't think all this is helpful for the Swedish monarchy.

You've summed up in one post, exactly what i've been saying since Sofia came on the scene. Also about CP's work ethic, which some people think is non-existent but people can't seem to understand that maybe CP has asked for more work, but no one will give it to him.

Quite right, anyone who marries/dates a royal looses a hell of a lot of privacy when they get into a situation like that. I wonder if Sofia looks on here and thinks she made a wrong decision.

I do hope that Sofia is the right girl for CP, Princess Sofia sounds wonderful.
