From Expressen today

Yesterday the King visited the Norra Järva Scout Corps in Kista and Husby, two suburbs of Stockholm with many immigrants, were a project has been held to get kids and young people involved in the scouts.

Yesterday it was time to hand over the scout scarfs to the section, and the King himself was there to talk to the young, new scouts. He gave some good advice for their futures.

- The most important responsibility is to take care of one self. If one cannot be secure in one self, one cannot help others.

- If comrades are feeling bad or are being bullied, one has to dare to act.

Expressen asked why the King chose to bring up these serious topics.
- We have all experienced it in some way. Unfortunately there is bullying in our society and it's hard to stop.

The King admit that issues around the lives of children is something he has neglected before, but promises the kinds and youth of Sweden that they will see more of him.

A scout should always be ready. Is the King ready to turn 60 in April?
- It's very hard to prepare for that. Ha ha!

This past Saturday, 25 March, the King took the opportunity to go skiing in Boden in the north of Sweden, where he was to attend the Swedish Skiing Championships 2006. Here he is out skiing, and meeting with some competitors of the championships.

Today the King is in Norrköping in the Östergötland County, having one of the regular theme days to get more well versed in a special topic. Today the topic is transports in the future. During the day he has met with the County Governor and the Director-Generals of the Swedish Maritime Administration, the Swedish Road Administration, the Railway Agency and the LFV Group Swedish Airports and Air Navigation Services.

Picture one is from Östgöta Correspondenten and two is by Matz Glimhed via Norrköpings Tidningar.

GrandDuchess, thanks for posting the pictures of the King. I think the first picture from Östgöta Correspondenten is a old pic from Stockholm castle and the second picture is the only new from Norrköping.

The pictures from Norrbotten skiing are beautifull, but I am missing a picture of the queen by 100years-celebration Sofia-church at Sunday!

Swedish Radio (SR) and Adressa Trondheim reports that the King and Queen spent their Easter holiday at the King’s cottage in Storlien, Jämtland County.

On Easter Saturday, the weather was apparently not too good, and just after three in the afternoon, the Dean of the Nidaros Cathedral (the national shrine of Norway) got a call. He was asked if he could possibly show the cathedral to King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia who wanted to visit it.

- 20 minutes later I met them, says the Dean, Knut Andresen.

- It wasn’t the first time the Swedish Royal Couple visited the cathedral. At several occasions, among them during King Harald’s 60th birthday celebrations in 1997, they have attended church services in the Nidaros Cathedral. This time the visit was both unofficial and private, coming from genuine interest.

They arrived in Trondheim by car together with a couple who are friends of them and of course their security guards. Apart from receiving the private tour by the Dean, they also walked outside the cathedral, on the courtyard, and visited the new visitor’s centre. There were quite a lot of people in the area, so several recognized them, and some Swedes were very surprised to see their King and Queen in Trondheim.

- Some nodded and kept a distance. Others came up to greet by a handshake.

In the Nidaros Cathedral, the high altar was especially interesting for the Royal Couple. It was King Oscar II’s gift to the cathedral in connection to his coronation in 1873. They also talked about the jubilee of King Haakon and Queen Maud’s coronation 100 years ago in the cathedral.

Yesterday the Queen awarded The World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child (WCPRC) at Gripsholm Castle in the Södermanland County, not very far away from Stockholm. The three prizes that are awarded was founded by a Swedish organisation working for the children’s situations around the world, and their work is supported by around 250 organisations world wide. This year’s award winners are as follows:

The World’s Children’s Prize – went to Craig Kielburger, Canada, who founded the organisation Free The Children at the age of 12. His organisation has during its ten years built around 400 pre-schools and taught hundreds of thousands of children how to help others to make their voice heard.

The Global Friend’s Award – went to AOCM, an organisation of orphans, consisting of 6 000 orphan survivors who work to bring food, clothes, education, housing and health care to all the affected children of today.

The World’s Children’s Honorary Award – went to Jetsun Pema, sister of the Dalai Lama, who has committed 40 years of her life to help Tibetan refugee children. With her help, countless numbers of children have received shelter, education and hope.

i see the Queen was given a traditional Tibetan White "Hatta". It symbolizes "compassion" and traditionally given as a 'good luck' or 'welcome'.
i had the pleasure of given one as well on my recent trip to tibet.. hehe...

It seems the swedish King and his driver has cause some commotion and it is the top news in all the Norwegian papers

When driving home they stopped for gass in Levanger, after the driver had filled the tank he went inside, bought some candy, but then he only payed for the candy and not for the gass, then they drove away. The staff beeing annoyed a driver had driven without paying checked the security camera to take the lisence plate, and when they checked it they got a wee suprised, because who was sitting in the back seat, yes the King and Queen of sweden. A call to the swedish palace got it confirmed that it was indeed the Swedish Kings driver who had not payed.

And here is the best part, what the swedish spokes person Nina Eld has to say (and thats quite alot and over the top IMO)

-After haveing filled the gass, the driver, a friend of the King, went inside to buy some candy and by accident he only payed for the candy without thinking, and then he went back to the car and drove away

-The ownder is a very nice man, he accepte our apology and we have payed what we owed. The Royal Couple BTW had a wonderful trip to Trondheim, and it was extra nice to drive trough Verdal (in the middle of nowhere and not very nice IMO) and over skallstu-mountain back to Storlien, the King finds the mountain absolutly enchanting

When such things happen to our Dear King it often causes some commotion, but in Trøndelag you are just SOOO nice, the King and Queen thinks so to.

If she quits her job at the palace she can come and be a tourist promoter for Norway:p

It's in the Swedish newspapers today as well, but I honestly don't see what's so "big news" about it, I think many people have or have been close to forgetting such things, even my own mother has sometimes almost forgotten to pay for the gas and only the extra things she buys from the gas station, because her mind has been elsewere... So, slow news day!

I heard on the radio today that the King and Queen will pay an official visit to Turkey in May! The King will lead a business delegation on the trip that will last for five days, and it's meant to strenghten the ties between the two countries before Turkey's EU negotiations. The official visit will be another historic landmark in the official realtions between the two countries - last year when Crown Princess Victoria paid an official visit to the country, it was the first time a Swedish royal set foot (officially) on Turkish soil for 71 years.

There is also a second official trip coming up later this year, and that will be a (probably) State Visit to China in the summer (end of July or early August sometime), in connection to the East Indiaman ship "Götheborg's"' arrival in the country.

So what is he supposed to do? Ask his driver if he remembered to pay for the gas? The whole thing is very silly. The headlines should read "The Kings driver forgot to pay for the gas!"

Thank you HMQEII for the pictures, the Queen looked lovely, and she's wearing one of my favourite outfits of hers.

To see a video of the Queen speaking German to a TV reporter during yesterday, go here and click on the video links! (Thanks to Romana on the Scandinavian Royals Message Board for finding it!)
