Summary of a DN article , and some small things from a Svenska Dagbladet article:

Just before two in the afternoon today, a royal 21 shot salute was fired in order to welcome the East Indiaman ship “Götheborg” to Stockholm on its maiden voyage. Thousands of people followed the ship as it entered Stockholm from different positions around the water, and hundreds of private boats where out on the water to see the arrival close by.

On board were King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, together with a host of VIP guests – among them the Ambassador of China to Sweden, and the Ambassador to China of Sweden.

- This is an important milestone for Swedish shipping and Swedish handicraft art, said the King and applauded the craftsmen who have worked on re-creating this boat since 1995.

On the question whether he prefers sailing boats or motorboats, the King replied:
- Both of them have their charm. It’s hard to put them up against each other. But I’m deeply impressed in the way this ship has come into existence.

What does the East Indiaman mean for Sweden in the world?
- It has a great significance with the trip to China. It’s good to develop trade and friendship, and to extend the knowledge about Sweden. I’m sure that the interest in Sweden will increase in the harbours where Götheborg will dock in China.

The original “Götheborg” went down on 12 September 1745 in Gothenburg, and was originally build in the Terra Nova shipyard in Stockholm. In 1995, The Marine Archaeological Society started to work on a project aiming at re-creating the ship. And now it lies there in central Stockholm for a short visit - 40 meters long, 11 meters broad, 400 tons heavy, and with a crew of 80.

On the second of October, “Götheborg” will begin its voyage to China, taking the same route as the original 1700 ship did. It will be off sailing for two years.

The King is the ship’s highest protector; the Queen is its godmother.

I was there at the arrival today, it was a wonderful experience, shared with so many people who stood around the waters. It was very impressive to see "Götheborg" enter our sights as it entered city waters. The salute was the closest I've ever been to one, it was so loud I had to hold my hands over my ears.

Picture 1-2 if from Dagens Nyheter, pictures 3-9 are from Svenska Dagladet.

Ouch but right on target.

Thank you for the translations, GrandDuchess and all of the photos these last couple of days. That is some ship. I like this photo. It really shows how big that boat is:

http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums...hmentid=181422

The King and Queen looked like they had a good time.

Thank you, FanLetizia for your photos.

This little girl is adorable. I assume that´s her in the other photo as well.

I love photos like these. It captures more closely the couple. Sometimes it´s great to see photos of people at events where there are a lot of people but you can only see 2 or 3 people. It´s really neat:

I'm very sorry as it's really cheap and distateful news but since the Palace officials took measures, it's Royal News ...

From The Local

Swedish royals call in the lawyers over preacher

The Swedish royal family has brought in the lawyers against a fundamentalist preacher in Kansas who said that the royal children look “slutty and gay”...

Here is another article about the launching:

I hope they didn´t take that wood from virgin forests and that they replanted as many trees as they cut down to make the replica.

Yes, this guy is a sad sack. Sometimes it´s best to ignore people like him. But he shouldn´t be surprised that he is getting sued. I just hope he doesn´t say anymore to insult the Bernadottes.

That man has come to my town several times, once to protest the awarding of a scholarship to a gay high school student going to college. (The kid's going to college -- he deserves praise!)

I wonder what's the man got against the Swedish Royal Family and why would he have that impression of the King and his children. You'd think a preacher would have more significant things going on in his own community to worry about.

I was also in Stockholm as the ship "gothenburg" came in to the harbour and ran down to see it. And to my surprise the king & queen was on the ship. This was the first time that i have ever seen anyone of the royal family in real life, quite fun to see people that you follow like this in real life.:)

More pics of the new Swedish replica of an East-India Sailing ship from the 1740:s "Gotheborg" arrived to the Stockholm Harbour today. The original ship was sailing between Gothenburg and China with goods and went down in a storm outside Gothenburg September 12th 1745. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia greeted the ship as it arrived to Stockholm, 17th August:
They are from Uppa UK:

http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyhete...689913,00.html
King Carl Gustaf was involved in a car accident in central Norrköping earlier today.
- The king is fine, says Jakob Larsson/ SÄPO.
The king couldnt stop in time and bumped into the car infront of his. The Norrköping police confirms that no one was injured in the accident. After the accident the cars involved drove up onto the refuge. At first the King sat in his car but later moved to the SÄPO car. The King drova a silver BMW M3.
ACJ at the royal court confirms that the King drove the car.
"Yes he did, he and his aide-de-camp was in the car.
ACJ says that she doesn´t not know how fast the king was driving.

http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyhete...689940,00.html
King Carl Gustaf drove the car but is not accused of any violation.
The police says
"I dont think the King was questioned, members of his entourage stayed behind while the King continued his journey".
As no violation is suspected, the matter is now in the hands of the insurance company.

At 11.15 the King was involved in a car accident in Norrköping. No one was injured in the accident.
After the accident the King was taken away in another vehicle.
He was driving from Solliden to Stockholm where he is going to attend the Stockholm Water Prize tonight.
The other car involved in the crash could drive on, but the the Kings car had to be left at the site and the king changed to another car.
The king will continue todays schedule, despite the accident says ACJ at the royal court

Thanks god, the king and the other involved persons are ok. That´s most important.
But...some security (driving) training for the whole family wouldn´t be bad. They drive like wild sows!
Or what about yearly tickets for the tunnelbana (?)

Yes, thankfully, everybody is okay. I haven't seen any wild sows drive in this part of the world lately but I see your point. Perhaps, they should make some public service commercials for the NTF.

Perhaps the King was trying to escape from Fred Phelps and was driving too fast at the time of the incident? :p
