So the journalist Daniel Nyhlén tells about the how Silvia is "seen" of Carl Gustaf´s friends (according to Aftonbladet, they call her "iron lady"), and he tells about her plastic sugeries.
I don't understand why anyone would print such things. Though I haven't been a "royal watcher" long, IMO the Queen seems like a very nice and warm person (she really comes across that way in the photos :) ). And as for plastic sugeries, who care if she has or hasn't.

Did we not just have an article about the Kings secret life? So Im guessing this is part two, and we can be looking forward to Victorias secret life, Madeleines secret life and so on. What Im really looking forward to is Princess Lillians secret life, no that would be intresting.:D

The pressrelease is rude and very unroyal if you ask me, ETWs work I suppose?
The article about Silvia was the answer on Expressen´s big Sunday-article on the king: http://www.expressen.se/index.jsp?a=188514

So it would be now really Expressen´s turn to write about Victoria´s secret life ;)
Yes, such an article about Lilian would be interesting. We don´t read much about her, but I guess she´s still "full of life" and it would be good to read more about her.

The problem which I have with this new counterstatement is, that it doesn´t include any kind of rectifying information. Usually in a press release things are corrected or announced to the press/people!

No offence Lena, but the palace press release sounds like something you would have said about Daniel Nyhlen:D :D

I find it unroyal behaviour to put out such a snappish remark, either you say nothing, or you publish a polite answer with relevant information. The palace should not lower them selves to such low level.

Hallo Grand Duchess,
really nice pictures. But I see only pics from the king by the regatta and not pictures from the queen near the regatta by the another royals. I found only pictures from the queen at meeting on city hall at evening.
Did you see pictures by the regatta from the queen? Many thanks for your help.
When I checked at Colourpress, there were pictures of both The King and Queen... You could see then arrive by car, and then inside a building for a reception or something. And then there were of course pics of just The King in his sailing jacket.

So I´m snappish? Well, I´m :D :D Can live with that ;) But I want to add that I´ve also tried to "match" him with Victoria (his future mother-in-law and the court´s spokeswomen would faint ;) ) in that past and that I feel now pity with him. Probably he´s sitting in his little shabby apartment and is crying (knowing that his sources were real)...or he´s planning revenge and is writing with glowing eyes "The Queen´s secret life II" or "ETW´s secret life...things you´ve never imagined" ;) ;)

This evening TV8 (swedish TV) will broadcast at 22:10 an interview with Queen Silvia.

http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyheter/story/0,2789,549099,00.html

The Queen tells among other things, that she sometimes feels lonely...that she had then, when the succession was changed, the fear that Victoria couldn´t have time to raise an own family before becoming Queen. She tells that Victoria has the support of her siblings, who don´t want to move abroad.
And she says that she´s still suprised how nice, warm and well-balanced the Swedes are.

Gossip and surgery – the life of ‘lonely’ Queen Silvia

Sweden’s royals are about as open as royals get, but the press is always hungry for secret information. This week it was Silvia’s turn in the spotlight, and while she spoke of her work for children’s charities, the press was painting a picture of a conservative queen, known to her friends as the ‘Iron Lady’,

In an interview shown on cable channel TV8 on Tuesday, Silvia said that being queen can lead to ‘feelings of loneliness,” and complained that she hardly ever got any time off, “even though I try to keep Mondays free.”

Silvia was doing the interview to promote her charity, the World Childhood Foundation, and said that she was proud of the role she had played to put the issue of child sex abuse on to the agenda, reported DN.

The queen, who has German-Brazilian origins, also said she was surprised by some of the stories about the royal family that had come up in the German tabloids. She said that they had taken action against the papers “to defend our children.”

Still, gossip about the royals is good business, in Sweden as well as in Germany. And according to a profile by Aftonbladet this week, even the queen herself is an avid reader of the Swedish gossip magazines.

“One of the high-points of the week is when Svenska Damtidning comes through the letterbox,” reported Aftonbladet. According to the paper, Silvia then rifles through the magazine, reading every line about herself, her family and her friends.

“Occasionally,” said the paper, “she rings Princess Madeleine and asks whether the things that are written in the papers are true.”

Aftonbladet painted a picture of a queen who is very aware of her position. She “refers to herself as ‘the queen’, and expects others to do likewise”, the paper revealed, adding that in certain noble families Silvia is unkindly referred to as ‘the Iron Lady’ and ‘the German’, referring to the queen’s Teutonic origins.

Such epithets point to a pretty conservative mindset, something that Aftonbladet confirms. Silvia is reportedly opposed to divorce and “worships the nuclear family” – an attitude that led to her boycotting the weddings of two of the king’s friends when they married much younger women.

Yet her disapproval of the young women in her husband’s social circle doesn’t mean that the queen has given up trying to look younger herself. Aftonbladet says that Silvia has had plastic surgery round her eyes and mouth, and speculates that she uses botox, “a kind of nerve poison that smoothens out wrinkles on the forehead.” According to the paper, the queen visits her plastic surgeon in Brazil during her annual visits to her homeland.

and here I thought the saying, "no one is indispensible" is true.

wonder what the difference would have been, compared to if she hadn't undertaken plastic surgery ?

Article from Aftonbladet today:

The article reports that The King's first hunt of the season (2 days long) was very successful. He managed to shoot three elks on the first day, the second day none – but the result is very good. Prince Carl Philip was not with The King this time, like he was last year, when he managed to shoot five elks and The King only two. The article also notes that The King has hunting rights on 85 000 hectares of State Land, 65 000 of the hectares are in Bergslagen (where The King now went to hunt), where the Royal elk hunt started 106 years ago.

Jaktlagen fällde under två dagars jakt 23 älgar i skogarna runt Färna.

What was the Queen thinking when she wore that second outfit. The on ew/ the blue shirt that shows her tummy. That is disgusting for someone her age.

What do they do with the elks?

After hunting them down? Eat them! I´m not too fond of it myself, but nothing strange about an elk steak with potatoes, brown sauce and jelly from "rönnbär"= rowanberry (according to my dictionary).

Love that last photo of the various royals mingling. Also love Silvia´s black and white outfit. So chic.

was madeleine with her father she has a licence now

Carl Gustaf Folke Hubertus

where does his names come from carl and gustaf is past kings but the other two names who is he named after

Last edited by a moderator:
Folke no doubt from his great uncle Folke Bernadotte who was the son of Oscar II´s second son, Oscar who married without permission and thus lost his rights of succession. Hubertus is a little harder to pinpoint but the king´s mother was from the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Leopold III of Belgium was from the same house and he had married Astrid of Sweden who was a great aunt of the King. Just an idea.

Article about Queen Silvia and her plastic surgeries in Expressen. Expressen claims that the reliable business newspaper dagens industri has revealed the places, where Queen Silvia underwent plastic surgeries. In 1991 she has visited the world famous surgeon Ivo Pitanguy in Brazil, who should have removed some tissue (fat) under her chin.
Nowadays she goes to the brazilian clinic Ligia Kogos and there she gets Botox-injections...
I think now the Royal court (the spokeswomen) have set a snare for themselves...They have commented every little article in Sweden´s tabloids in the past few weeks. But I guess they now won´t comment this article (because the Queen´s plastic surgeries are a delicate topic...it seems). So ppl will automatically draw the conclusion that it is true.

Hos Ligia Kogos arbetar 37 personer ofta dygnet runt. En dos botox kostar 2 500. Men enligt DI får

Why shouldn't they deny it?
Well maybe they could start up their own tabloid than as they are quite busy posting counterstatements. Maybe we should donate an account at TRF to the new press person at the royalcourt. That way he/she could post the counterstatments here too! :D

thanks, GrandDuchess.

in passing ..... I would say with the liptucks and dyed hair, Silvia is holding her age well.

It would seem that Carl Gustav is not vain, otherwise he would've dyed his hair a long time ago. ;)

Yesterday The King awarded the Prince Eugen Medal at a ceremony at the Royal Palace of Stockholm. The Prince Eugen Medal was institutes in connection with the Prince's 80th birthday in 1945, and is awarded by The King to persons for a great artistic deed. This time The King has decided to give the medal to five people, four of them could attend the medal award ceremony at the Palace.

Here is one of the recipients, the picture is from the Royal Court's website, and taken by Pressens Bild AB:

Silvia was intervied on the radio today and she spoke about womens abuse. Perhaps someone with better english than myself could translate the article but I just wanted to comment on something Silvia said.

She said that "I don´t know anyone that is being abused by thier husband but I read about it in books and magazines.
If I found out that someone I knew was being abused I probably would react, usually I´m not quiet".

Imo thats a very stupid comment. Its not like women that are being abused has it written in their forehead!! It happends in all families and saying that "I dont know anyone" is very dangerous imo. It can be read as "no, among my fine friends and society there´s no such thing".
