Today, Tuesday 10 May, the King inaugurated 551 student apartments in Nationalstadsparken in the Stockholm County. In the 1960's, just like today, there was a big shortage of student housing - and back then King Gustaf VI Adolf decided to give away a piece of his own land in Kungshamra to build student apartments on. And today the present King inaugurated more newly built apartments on this land that once his grandfather donated. The pics are from the City of Solna.

Statement by His Majesty The King about Monica Zetterlund's death:

It is with great grief that my family and I have received the notice that Monica Zetterlund has died.

She was a great and multifaceted artist who's career spread over broad fields. Singer, variety artist and actress. Her songs will forever be a part of Swedish music life.

Carl Gustaf

Some pictures (from Expressen) of Monica. May she rest in peace.

Yesterday, Sunday 15 May, the King and Queen were at their summer residence Solliden on the island of Öland where they opened H.M. The King’s exhibition “A collection of royal postcards” in a pavillion. The exhibition features a vast collection which the King has gathered for many years and now he chooses to show it to the public for the first time. The motifs are Solliden, the island of Öland and the town of Borgholm and also nature pictures. The first picture is from the Royal Court, the second from Fotomarktplatz and the third from the newspaper Barometern:

wonderful photos of them! When they are at Solliden they always seems so relaxed and happy...

Great pictures. Their Majesties look wonderful, well-rested and happy.:)

There´s an nice little interaction between the king and then queen described in the article from Ölandsbladet:

– Man kan ju inte stämpla sig själv, skrattade kungen som var på sitt bästa humör i söndagseftermiddagens strålande solsken.
I stället överlät han poststämplandet åt drottning Silvia.
– Nu har du chansen. Tryck till ordentligt, skämtade kungen.
Av bara farten fick sedan drottningen en kram av kungen, som annars brukar vara tämligen pryd i offentliga sammanhang.

The king should have stamped a postage stamp on a postcard...but then he noticed, that a stamp with a picture of the king was sticking on the postcard...
-One really can´t stamp on oneself, said the laughing king, who was in good humour on this Sunday afternoon with bright sunshine.
Instead he gave the stamp to queen Silvia.
-Now you have the chance. Press hard, joked the king
Afterwards the queen got a spontaneous hug from the king, who is actually known for being a bit prudish/reluctant in public.

Today, Wednesday 18 May, the King visited the 4th Sea Combat Flotilla on the west coast of Sweden, and took part in some of their work (locating and destroying what is left of the 165 000 sea mines that were planted out during WWII around the coasts). The pictures are from the Defence via the Royal Court:

I wonder, what the family has planned for the prolonged weeked. Probably something together, because they all have days off. Well, high likely we will never know...
Now we know! They went to their house in St Maxime!
They went shopping and bought several things for the upcomming summer

Picture of the king and queen arriving to a party to mark the 175th jubilee of the Royal Swedish Yacht club. The party took place at the mansion of the famous family Wallenberg.
That house is beautiful. Where exactly is it?

The villa Täcka Udden, which is the Wallenberg family's representational palace-like villa (or mansion as I would classify it) - lies beautfully on Royal Djurgården in Stockholm.

Always wonderful to see the King at his best - just like today when a happy spirited King Carl XVI Gustaf attended a five hour long Home Guard practice in the forests of Boden in Norrbotten County in the north of Sweden. The King wanted to take a closer look at the work of the Home Guard and he chose the Norrbotten County group himself, and they were of course very honoured. Pictures from the northern military district of the Defence:

Yesterday, Thursday May 19, the King was in Örebro together with the World Wildlife Fund where they visited birlakes and wetlands. You can see a little clip from the local news of the visit here

This past Wednesday, May 18, Sweden’s only four-star admiral, the King, visited Västervik and the 4th Sea Combat Flotilla on the west coast. He boarded the ship HMS Arholma and went out to see where he followed a practice of the 4th Mine Destruction Division, followed by a British mine destroying ship, Ledbury, who were there to watch and learn. Pictures from Vimmerby Tidning, Östran and Västerviks Tidning:

At Sunday, 22nd May 2005 Queen Silvia visit "Child day" at Gröna Lund. (...Elisabeth thanks for posting pics from Seegerpress).
What was happened by the celebration? Play and fun for children or only performance and speech? I have missing pictures from the queen with children.

From Seeger Press.
