Of course, she didn’t work as an engineer (besides, I didn’t claim that), but I think that her special interest in the incorporation of Information Technology into schools for example, and the development of the IT sector in Jordan may have something to do with the fact that she once worked for a while for Apple Computer.

Also it could be something to do with the fact that Jordan is trying to become computer literate along with a lot of other developing nations - it seems to be high on the priority list of many countries without an industrial/natural resources base and having to look for alternative types of industry.

I agree, especially as it is also high on the priority list of the king himself.

Maybe it’s both

They are up against a lot of competition though and that is a problem as places like India for example are already very well established, Dubai and now Doha are IT hubs for the ME so it will be tough.

KING AND AZIZ ALSO DISCUSSED SCOPES OF ENHANCING THE ECONOMIC RELATIONS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING JOINT PROJECTS BETWEEN THE JORDANIAN AND PAKISTANI PRIVATE SECTORS. AS FOR THE ISSUES OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD, KING ABDULLAH REITERATED THE NECESSITY OF ENHANCING THE JOINT ISLAMIC ACTION TO FACE THE DIFFERENT CHALLENGES, ESPECIALLY MISUNDERSTANDING OF ISLAM BY TERRORIST GROUPS. HIS MAJESTY SAID THAT CLARIFYING THE TRUE IMAGE OF ISLAM IS THE DUTY OF EVERY MUSLIM, NOTING THE CONTENT OF AMMAN MESSAGE. KING ALSO STRESSED THE NECESSITY OF ENHANCING THE WORK OF THE ISLAMIC CONFERENCE ORGANIZATION (ICO) AND EXERTING MORE EFFORTS TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN EAST AND WEST AND BUILD BRIDGES OF UNDERSTANDING AND CO-EXISTENCE AMONGST PEOPLES. AS FOR THE POLITICAL REGIONAL DEVELOPMENTS, KING ABDULLAH OUTLINED JORDAN'S VISION TOWARD THE SITUATIONS IN THE PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES AFTER HAMAS VICTORY IN THE PALESTINIAN LEGISLATIVE ELECTIONS, STRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF RESUMING THE PEACE PROCESS WHICH IS THE ONLY WAY TO END THE PALESTINIAN-ISRAELI CONFLICT. HIS MAJESTY KING ABDULLAH SAID, DURING THE MEETING WHICH WAS ATTENDED BY PRIME MINISTER MAROUF BAKHEIT, DIRECTOR OF HIS MAJESTY'S OFFICE FAROUQ QASRAWI, PAKISTANI FOREIGN MINISTER AND PAKISTANI AMBASSADOR IN AMMAN THAT THE RESULTS OF THE ISRAELI ELECTIONS SCHEDULED TO BE HELD AT THE END OF MARCH WILL DETERMINE THE TREND OF THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT TOWARDS THE PEACE PROCESS. AS FOR IRAQ, KING ABDULLAH EXPRESSED HIS WORRIES TOWARDS THE GROWING TENSION, OUTLINING JORDAN'S EFFORTS TO PRESERVE THE UNITY OF IRAQ. FOR HIS PART, AZIZ HAILED THE BILATERAL TIES, EXPRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF ENCOURAGING THE PRIVATE SECTORS IN BOTH COUNTRIES TO ESTABLISH JOINT PROJECTS THAT WOULD CONTRIBUTE IN PUSHING FORWARD THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROCESS IN JORDAN AND PAKISTAN. THE PAKISTANI PREMIER ALSO EXPRESSED APPRECIATION OVER EFFORTS OF HIS MAJESTY KING ABDULLAH II TO CLARIFY THE TRUE IMAGE OF ISLAM, NOTING THAT AMMAN MESSAGE, LAUNCHED BY JORDAN IN 2004 IS A DISTINGUISHED INITIATIVE TO SHOW THE TEACHINGS OF ISLAM. AZIZ EXPRESSED THANKS FOR JORDAN OVER ITS SUPPORT FOR PAKISTANI PEOPLE DURING THEIR HARD CIRCUMSTANCES AFTER THE STRONG EARTHQUAKE THAT HIT PAKISTAN IN 2005. //PETRA// SHNIQAT ''''

Pakistani prime minister in Amman on one-day official visit

AMMAN (JT) — Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz was to arrive here last night on a one-day official visit to the Kingdom as part of a mission of friendship and the ongoing consultative process between the leadership of the two countries, Pakistani embassy officials said Wednesday.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation, the Pakistani prime minister is expected to meet with His Majesty King Abdullah to discuss ways to boost bilateral ties and exchange views on developments in the region as well as Pakistan and surrounding countries.
Both leaders are expected to discuss the current situation in northern Pakistan following the October 8 earthquake that killed more than 80,000 people and the efforts taken to protect the large population from severe malnutrition, outbreaks of epidemics and the freezing winter conditions.
Both King Abdullah and Her Majesty Queen Rania paid separate visits to Pakistan in October last year to express their support in the aftermath of the devastating 7.6-magnitude earthquake. Jordan Times

This is a really good article btw..I had no idea PM Aziz had spent seven years in Jordan, nor the extent of Jordan-Pakistan economic ties, the level of Pakistani investment in Jordan etc.

“We would like to see the nuclear issue solved in a diplomatic manner. We have enough problems in the region,” Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit was quoted by Agence France-Presse as telling reporters at a joint news conference with his Pakistani counterpart Shaukat Aziz. Jordan Times

I would really like to see a longer state visit with KA and QR hosting another royal family in Jordan. I can't recall the last time one occured. Does anyone know if a visit is being planned? Weren't the Dutch royals to visit--but it was postponed?

No actually KA and QR were going to the Netherlands for a state visit but it was postponed because of the terrorist attacks last year.
The King and Queen of Spain are supposed to go to Jordan on a state visit next month.
