In his cable, the King expressed his deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences over the death of Sheikh Maktoum, who dedicated his life to serving his homeland and nation. Pet0793 4 0652 King Holds Discussion with Palestinian President Amman, Jan. 4 (Petra)-- His Majesty King Abdullah II affirmed the necessity of protecting and enhancing the Palestinian national solidarity, calling on all Palestinian parties to work together to restore security in the Palestinian territories. During a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday, King Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan's support for the Palestinian National Authority's exerted efforts that aim at enhancing security and building the institutions in the Palestinian territories as a main step before the elections. The King stressed the importance of Palestinians in Jerusalem to participate in the elections, pointing that enhancing the security in Palestine will help the International community participating in building a Palestinian economy that is capable of achieving the aspirations of the Palestinian people in building an independent and viable state that lives side by side with Israel. King Abdullah also remarked that the next two years will determine the future of Palestine. For his part, Mahmoud Abbas briefed the King on the results of his recent tour that included a number of Gulf states, where he discussed with their leaders the situation in Palestine. Abbas affirmed the necessity of the participation of the Palestinians in Jerusalem in the elections, adding that the Authority will work on enhancing security and controlling the Palestinian territories through which it can create an atmosphere of multiple political parties that contribute to building a better life for the Palestinian people. President Abbas stressed that the Palestinian leadership is committed to the road map, calling on the Israelis to put an end to their settling activities and return to the table of negotiation. I saw king Abdullah with prince Ali on the TV they in Dubai and they did the prayer in the mosque with the family of Maktom .

It says it was a pivate visit so we probably won't know. A family matter, perhaps? After all Prince Hashem's fiancee is a Saudi princess, maybe Abdullah went to formalise the engagements?!

2.5 million pilgrims perform Haj today

MINA (Saudi Arabia), Jan 8: Around 2.5 million pilgrims from 160 different countries across the globe reached the valley of Mina by Sunday afternoon, as Haj 1426 Hijrah began. Men clad in two seamless pieces of white cloth and women in modest dresses, covering their heads, were reciting ‘Labbaik Allah Humma Labbaik’, with tears flowing across the cheeks of many.


A large number of dignitaries from the Muslim world, including the Jordanian King Abdullah II, Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, Bangladesh Opposition Leader Sheikh Hasina Wajed, Gambian President Dr Alhaji Yahya Abdulaziz Jamy and Lebanese Prime Minister Fu’ad Siniora are also in Mina to perform Haj this year.
