It's great to see Jordan on hand to deliver supplies to Pakistan, it's depressing seeing places you know destroyed.
It's a shame some of the other Middle Eastern nations couldn't be quite so generous.

(Petra)--His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday stressed the importance of the various local media's role in clarifying facts for citizens, highlighting the homeland's accomplishments and enhancing the values of belonging to Jordan and its people. During his visit to the Jordanian Press Foundation (JPF,) His Majesty urged the local media to commit themselves to the standards of transparency and trustworthiness in work, in order to achieve a media that contribute to building society and enhancing its march in the various fields. The King stressed the necessity of enough care for training and rehabilitating press cadres through cooperation with all parties concerned in this field. His Majesty toured JPF premises which includes , Arabic daily Al-Rai , English daily The Jordan Times , and Hatem magazine, where he met with the foundation's columnists and working cadres. Milewski, 43, of Haverhill is now a sales director for Lucent Technologies; his high school friend is the king of Jordan.
Milewski and more than 100 former classmates and their wives spent a week in Jordan in August at the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II, who showed off the new high school he is building in the desert near Jordan's capital city, Amman. Known as King's Academy, it is modeled after the academy in Deerfield he attended a quarter-century ago.

I did read that saudi arabia , Qatar and UAE did send aides , but I am not sure why no one talking about it in western media ?!
any way it is really painful to see what happen in pakistan I hope we all remamber them in our prayer in this great month and do our best to give what we can give to them .

There's no shame,most of middle eastern nations are helping in this earthquake,it's not because Jordan choose to mediatisate what they are doing ,that they others are not doing anything,there's lot of people who are helping anonymously,and not because medias would talk about this,this is not the purpose.
I'm sure that they'r hepling more than Jordan,since Jordan itself is living with aids of ME countries

there's no need to put Jordan down. Its the prompt response from King Abdullah that counts and is even admirable in comparison to wealthier Arab nations (like the Gulf) which dont have a very generous record (re: the tsunami)
SA and the UAE are sending help. It is modest in comparison to other nations but the media has mentioned them over the past 2 days.
Whether Jordan itself is living on aid is irrelevant. Infact that makes the gesture even more admirable, that a country that is by no means as wealthy as other Arab nations has responded.

Quite honestly, at this point it doesn't matter who is sending aid and who isn't, the fact is, Pakistan needs aid.I don't think the people trapped under all that rubble really care who is helping them, as long as somebody is there to lend a hand.Middle East should help out, but I think, U.S should be the first one to send out aid.Pakistan has done so much for U.S, (political wise) that I think U.S should reconsider the amount of aid they are sending at this time. Just a thought...
By the way, Iam very proud of Jordan for helping out.Wasn't it the first Arab country to speak about the matter?

Kuwait gave $500million or something similarly obscene to the US after Hurricane Katrina, I've yet to see them make a similar offer to Pakistan.
And Jordan may be poor and dependent on foreign aid but at least they always have the decency to help unlike other greedy Arab nations like the UAE who are perfecrtly willing to use Pakistani children and labourers when it suits them.

Your last point is so true.
This is a very difficult time and emotions can run quite high but this is by no means an unfair criticism. But I have always noticed a double standard here. The wealthier arab governments cant pull out their check books fast enough when they're trying to impress the West. But when its the developing world that needs help, more importantly their fellow Muslims, they're somehow not as quick to respond. When the tsunami happened even the media in countries like Kuwait and the Gulf criticized their govts. And that was my point. I know the UAE and SA are sending out relief goods. But I singled out Jordan because King Abdullah's response was among the first in his region. I know because I was following the response from various countries from the start. Its good to know that good friends of Pakistan like China and Turkey were among the first to respond (Turkey was first to send help). Also western gov'ts (USA, Canada have pledged $50 & $ 20 mill respectively in addition to other aid) have responded promptly and increased their pledges as the scope of the disaster was understood better. I guess at times like this we find out who our friends really are.
Bravo to King Abdullah and to Jordan.
I should also mention that King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and his decree to establish an uninterrupted "air bridge" between SA and Pakistan and a national fundraising campaign is also admirable.

AMMAN (JT) — In parallel to Al Aman Campaign for the Future of Orphans, Her Majesty Queen Rania visited two orphanages on Monday to check on the well-being of children and youth residing there, as well as the services provided by these institutions.

The UAE and Kuwait have announced an increase in aid, and it is a generous amount. I want to be fair and give credit where its due. But since this isnt the thread to talk about that I'll post the details in the South Asian earthquake thread.
