King Underscores Jordan will be Stronger than all Circumstances

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday underlined that Jordan would be stronger than all circumstances by the determination of its people and its brave armed forces personnel. And Jordan would defeat all challenges and difficulties, King Abdullah said. King Abdullah's remarks were made during a meeting with large audience of Armed Forces personnel after iftar banquet hosted on the honor of His Majesty the King by the Arab Arm at Royal Military College today.

Thank you, Humera; that link was most helpful! I like the fact both the King and Queen are out and about having iftars with the people of Jordan (as well as those in the countries KA has been visiting). Again, may have read it wrong or QN may have worded it in a somewhat confusing manner but I had the distinct impression iftars during KH's reign were held at the Palace--no exceptions. I think it makes the true meaning of Ramadan much more impactful when the King and Queen take time to move among their people and go to them to celebrate with them! I would think most people would find this quite an honor and are touched by the fact they do so. I would be. Perhaps this is yet another way they are living up to the fact they have stated they hope to achieve a more modern monarchy which is very in touch with the people. Anyway, it's very nice and seems to be something they have done in the past. I wasn't paying that much attention at the time but Queen Rania was attending iftars with widows and orphans in 2002--and perhaps before that. That was the first mention I could find. It's a lovely tradition.:)
 
This is good news and I am eager to learn more about it, see the photos, of course, but also to hear about the dialogue. I still believe QR was taking extra time to stay closer to home after the birth of Prince Hashem as it might be her last child--and, let's face it; you can have all the help in the world but, ultimately, she is the one who is holding the family unit together as KA has been very busy internationally of late. Also, the introduction of a new baby into a family is a big event and a lot of care has to be taken to ensure the other children feel they are not losing out on time/attention. I think she is a very "hands on" mother and prioritizes accordingly. This may also speak to how close she is to other royals; she's the mother of four young children and they come first. Add to that her royal duties and I don't sense Queen Rania has a lot of time for socializing for the sake of socializing, if that makes any sense. I really do applaud her mothering skills. Clearly, she was raised in a family where she had good role models in her parents and is emulating that with her own approach to being a parent. Parenting takes a lot of time!!!!

I didn't recall one either but just looked at the book which chronicled King Hussein's life, "Hussein of Jordan," put out by his Foundation shortly after his death. It lists a visit to Amsterdam with QN in 1984 and one to Holland in 1992. There is also a photo without a date of a state visit in Jordan where KH/QN hosted Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus. In any event, it's been quite awhile since one occured.

Ah, thank you for that. I did think there must have been some sort of visit to Holland at some point. Were any of the Dutch Royals at Prince Hamzah's wedding? I've seen pictures of quite a few Royal families there but I cannot remember seeing the Dutch?
 
It's interesting that Prince Hussein is taking a more active role with his father, he accompanied him on his trip to Russia as well. It does seem likely that he's being groomed for the position of Crown Prince.

yes you're right. This goes way back to 1999, when Rania first became Queen.
There are tons of pictures on Corbis of her meeting the poor and have iftars with them.

This is in keeping with Queen Rania's interest in children. She is a wonderful mother who clearly values and recognizes the importance of nurturing the next generation. How many orphans are there in Jordan roughly? Is it an ongoing problem? If there are many, what happened to their parents? Are these children who are abandoned or whose parents were killed somehow? I like the photo, too. She seems very much at ease leading meetings involving executives. She once said initially she found it "daunting" but I don't think I've ever once seen her looking timid or "out of her league." Now, I have seen photos of QN in early days looking a bit lost but QR seems to have made the transition beautifully.

Just thought I'd add a little more info. about this benefit:

"The River City Brass Band will perform Nov. 16 at a Washington, D.C., reception and dinner to benefit the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in the nation's capital.

The concert will raise money for the Legacy Fund,. which supports inter-religious inquiry, inter-cultural dialogue and education that promotes human rights, justice and peace."

Upon receiving the visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari, King Abdullah II renewed Jordan's support to Iraqi brethren to build their future and keep Iraq's people and territorial integrity.
