actually Little star this is the first Im hearing of this trip too. I have often wondered why KA hasn't made as many visits to Asia. One would think that he'd wish to consolidate Jordan's relationship with the new emerging powers of the world. Thats just as important as Europe and the US, perhaps even more so given the tremendous growth many Asian nations are going through and the fact that many of these countries are fellow Muslims. Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan fit that criteria. I think its a good beginning.
It is also very convenient that KA will be able to offer his condolences for the earthquake to the Pakistani president & people in person.
I was only disappointed that Queen Rania isnt accompanying the King. But I understand that atleast one of them would want to stay at home, Ramadan being a time they devote especially to visiting Jordan's poor, orphans etc.

That's true, I wonder if he'll visit the collapsed apartment block in F/10, the President's residence is only 10minutes drive away and it would be a nce touch if he did.
I know Rania's quite well-liked in Pakistan, so it would have been nice for them both to visit.

really? I haven't been back in years so I did'nt know. I know some people know about Princess Sarvath (not the average person though) but I didnt think they knew much about Queen Rania.
Well, maybe we'll have a state or official visit by both KA and QR in the future.
We haven't had a major state visit by Pres. Musharraf to Jordan either, and he has been in the ME often. I do remember seeing a picture of him shaking hands with KA in Jordan but it was a taken a few years back and I dont think it was a major or publicized visit.

Does anyone know how much aid Jordan has provided Pakistan? It probably doesn't matter, because government officials are not giving any of it to the victims. Iam really proud of Jordan!

King Abdullah in Malaysia

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp...022&sec=nation

Amman keen to curb terrorism with KL

PUTRAJAYA:Jordan is keen to cooperate with Malaysia to check international terrorism and learn from Malaysia's experience in enhancing the image of Islam.

Both countries shared the view that terrorism could be overcome through the resolution of basic problems in West Asia.

This was among the results of a meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and King Abdullah of Jordan at the Prime Minister's Office here yesterday.

Elaborating the results of the meeting to reporters, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said Jordan was also prepared to exchange experience and knowledge with Malaysia on Iraq.

“We have also seen Jordan playing an important role in efforts to bring peace and stability in West Asia.”

He also said Amman could play a role in bringing peace to Palestine.

Jordan was also keen to take part in the South-East Asia Centre for Counter-Terrorism set up in Kuala Lumpur, he said.

Earlier, King Abdullah, who was on a two-day working visit to Malaysia, held a closed-door meeting for about an hour with the Prime Minister.

King Abdullah left for Pakistan later yesterday.

I find the whole situation in Pakistan just depressing and horrific. I hope all members who live in or have family/friends in Pakistan have learned they are safe.

I applauded KA's decision to send aid as he was one of the very first to do so and it is a humanitarian gesture of major importance. When so small a country as Jordan, with all its worries and poverty, can send aid, that sends a strong signal to its allies and the rest of the world.

I also applaud QR including women in iftars. Now, I am the first to admit I don't know a lot about iftars but QN wrote in her book she was criticized for inviting women to the palace for iftars--to the extent KH told her to stop. But the outcry was so strong, they were reinstated. The palace officials who objected said women should be at home preparing the meal; QN said, for one night, another could do the honors and held fast to her belief women should participate in the palace iftars or those she and KH attended. I'm glad QR is keeping up the tradition.
