King condoles Saudi monarch
Amman, March 18 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah on Friday sent a cable of condolences to Saudi Monarch Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud over the passing away of Prince Bandar Bin Saud Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who died on Thursday.

In the cable, the King expressed his deepest sympathies to the king and people of Saudi Arabia.

King extends condolences to Russia over deadly plane crash

Amman, Mar 19 (Petra) –– His Majesty King Abdullah II Saturday sent condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the crash of a FlyDubai passenger plane in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don that took many lives.

The Boeing 737-800 passenger jet, operated by the FlyDubai airline, crashed at the airport while attempting to land in the southern Russian city early in the day.

Amman, March 22 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Tuesday, voiced pride in the global success the Jordanian film "Theeb" has achieved and hailed the movie as "a creative work of art."

During a meeting with the cast and crew members of the film, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the King said this accomplishment constitutes a remarkable success story at the hands of creative Jordanians, among other accomplishments Jordanians should be proud of.

Queen visits Syrian refugees at IRC centers in Ramtha
Amman, March 23 (Petra) -- Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah visited the northern border city of Ramtha on Wednesday, where she met with Syrian refugees and heads of local charity organizations working in the area.

She began her visit at the Women’s Protection and Empowerment Center, run by the International Rescue Committee (IRC). In a meeting with IRC staff, Country Director Wendy Taeuber briefed Her Majesty on the services the organization provides, and how it deals with gender-based violence emergencies among female Syrian refugees.

King condoles Pakistan President over victims of Lahore terrorist explosion
Amman, March 27 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Sunday, sent a cable to the President of Pakistan, Mamnoon Hussain, condoling him over the victims of the terrorist explosion that struck a park on the western side of Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore, earlier today.

In his cable, the King voiced strong condemnation of the attack and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

During the meeting, Queen Rania and Mrs. Davutoglu discussed a number of matters and areas of mutual interest, including issues of particular importance to Her Majesty, such as education advancement, child rights, and community empowerment in Jordan.

The meeting took place during Turkish Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu’s working visit to the Kingdom.
 
King to take part in Nuclear Security Summit in Washington this week
Amman, March 28 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II, will take part in the fourth Nuclear Security Summit, slated to be held later this week in Washington, DC.

On the sidelines of the summit, King Abdullah will meet a number of international political figures, including Japan's Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, and Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, to discuss regional and international developments.

King Abdullah had participated in the previous three Nuclear Security Summits. The first was hosted by Washington in 2010, the second by the Korean capital Seoul in 2012 and the third by the Hague in the Netherlands in 2014.

The Nuclear Security Summit is a world summit, aimed at improving nuclear security around the globe and promoting regional and international institutions to curb the spread of nuclear materials.

Amman, March 29 (Petra)--His Majesty King Abdullah left on Tuesday for Washington on a working visit during which he will participate in the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit to be hosted in Washington this week.

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein was sworn in as regent in the presence of Cabinet members.

Seikaly said the event aims to capitalize on Amman’s diverse demographics to build a citywide platform based on forward design thinking and innovation, as key components of Jordanian society and economy.

Seikaly added that the week-long event will feature a series of engaging activities that will host keynote speakers and interactive workshops to highlight the importance of design in everyday life.

King sends congratulations on establishment of Islamic Republic of Iran.
Amman, April 1 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Friday sent cables of congratulations to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani on the anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran.


King: We will contribute to countering nuclear smuggling with 39 co-sponsors

Washington, April 1 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday attended a dinner banquet, hosted by US President Barack Obama in honour of heads of states and delegations attending the 4th Nuclear Security Summit.

During the event, King Abdullah delivered a speech in which he praised the US president for taking the initiative and hosting such a key summit. Further, the King voiced hope this important process will continue in a sustainable manner and "build an enduring architecture to further our achievements and the good work that is being done".

Washington, April 2 (Petra) – His Majesty King Abdullah II late Friday attended the closing session of the Nuclear Safety Summit, which discussed policies to counter smuggling of nuclear materials.

Participants in the session, which was also attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II, reiterated that nuclear threats posed by terrorist organizations remain at the top of threats to global security.

King takes part in Nuclear Safety Summit

Washington, April 1 (Petra)--His Majesty King Abdullah II attended in the presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah II, the Nuclear Safety Summit, which kicked off in Washington on Friday.

The summit will discuss international measures to enhance nuclear safety in the world, as well as means to curb the spread of nuclear and radioactive materials that could be used by terrorist organizations.

King meets Thai prime minister

Washington, April 1 (Petra)--His Majesty King Abdullah II on Friday, met on the sidelines of his participation in the Nuclear Safety Summit in Washington, with the Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Talks during the meeting dealt with means to forge closer ties between Jordan and Thailand, mainly in the trade and investment fields, the latest developments in the Middle East, and international efforts to address challenges facing the region , particularly terrorism and extremism.

King issues royal benefaction to restore Jesus’ Tomb in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Amman, April 10 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II has issued a Royal Benefaction (makruma) to provide for the restoration of Jesus’ Tomb in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, at His Majesty’s personal expense.

The Royal Hashemite Court informed the Jerusalem Patriarchate of His Majesty’s makruma in a letter sent to His Beatitude Kyrios Kyrios Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine and Jordan.

King urges better services to citizens of the capital
Amman, Apr 10 (Petra) –– His Majesty King Abdullah urged Amman municipal officials to continue providing better services to citizens in the capital through adoption of plans that give due consideration to service and developmental needs.
The King told Amman Mayor Aqel Beltaji and executive directors during a visit to the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) to place the emphasis on the "comprehensive and organizational dimension in the various projects underway in the capital, and in the various sectors that directly affect the various' life".

Aqaba, April 11 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Monday, received Saudi Deputy Crown Prince, Muhammad bin Salman Al Saud, and discussed with him Jordanian-Saudi relations and a number of regional issues, according to a statement issued following the meeting.
