Exhibition of the biggest floating library inaugurated in Aqaba onboard the oldest vessel worldwide

Amman/ March 5/ (Petra)-- Deputizing for Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, President of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Nader Dahabi Saturday opened the exhibition of the largest floating library in the world onboard the oldest ever vessel "Dollos" which has been sailing since 1914.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Dahabi said Her Majesty Queen Rania gives special attention to local and international voluntary activities designed to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding between nations and with the aim of reaching a secure world rich in knowledge and peaceful human
relations.

He conveyed Queen Rania's greeting to the ship crew and thanked them for organizing the exhibition which includes over 6000 titles.

The 180-meter-long ship arrived in Aqaba last Thursday and will stay until May 20.

Dollos has a crew of 320 persons from more 40 countries and it is owned by a non-profitable German foundation called " Valuable Books for All". It is two years younger than the legend Titanic. Over the past 27 years, Dollos has docked at over 500 ports in 100 countries and it has hosted over 17 million visitors.

Actually, according to the article, Rania wasn't present at the occasion (therefore no pics). The exhibition was opened on her behalf by Nader Dahabi.

On March 1 or 2, I read on Petra that she was going to open the floating exhibition on March 5th, apparently she didn't. Maybe, she changed her mind at the last minute..

Monday with Chairman Of the US Tourism Society Alex Hares and a
number of Association members representing major travel and tourism
companies in the USA.
The King underscored the importance of tourist sector and
its vital role in the sustainable development process.
Fore his part, Hares expressed the Society's appreciation
for the King's role in promoting and bringing investments to Jordan,
particularly in the field of tourism, noting the video footage
displayed by "Discovery Channel" on archaeological and tourist
regions in Jordan constituted a distinguished pattern in
international tourist marketing.
"the Society will work on marketing and promoting Jordan as
a tourist country, it's distinguished by its historical, religious
and archaeological places.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Royal Court Samir Al
Rafai, the King's Advisor Akel Beltaji, Minister of Tourism and
Antiquities Alia Bouran, Royal Jordanian Executive(RJ) President
Samir Majali, and Chairman of Jordan Tourism Board Mazen Al Hmoud.

King Inaugurates Jordan Road
[1]Amman, March 7(Petra)-- His Majesty King Abdullah II
inaugurated on Monday the Jordan Road, which was
constructed by the Greater Amman Municipality in cooperation with
the Ministry of Public Works and Housing with a total cost of JD 50
million.

His Majesty was briefed on the project's phases as well as
on its developmental, environmental, and economic objectives.

The Jordan Road links Amman with the capital's main highway
to Jerash and Irbid. The road cuts the distance that motorists used
to take between the Amman's downtown and northern governorates by
3.5 km, and these motorists would not be forced to take the
traffic-jammed Queen Rania St on their travel to the north.

This is proved by the road's high economic advantage
since it would provide easy access for motorists, reduces their time
on traffic and saves their fuel consumption.

The road also gains access for better development to the
populated areas that it serves, either through investments or
growing businesses.

Mayor of the Greater Amman Municipality Nidal Hadid delivered
a speech in which he pointed to the importance of the Jordan Road,
which represents a vital lifeline for Amman's residents who wish to
have easy access to other areas in the Kingdom, especially the
northern governorates.

The ceremony was attended by Royal Court Minister Samir Rifai,
Minister of Public Works and Housing Raed Abu Sa'ud and other
officials.

King Meets Hamburg Prime Minister
[1]Amman, March 7(Petra)-- His Majesty King Abdullah II
received on Monday Prime Minister of the North German Federal State
of Hamburg Ole von Beust and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, which was attended by Royal Court
Minister Samir Rifai, King's advisor Akel Beltaji, Foreign Minister
Hani Mulki, the Jordanian ambassador to Germany, and the German
ambassador to Jordan, the two sides discussed means of enhancing
cooperation between Jordan and Hamburg, particularly in the
economic, cultural, vocational training, planes maintenance, and
pharmaceutical spheres.
The two sides also discussed possibilities of Hamburg's
contribution to the establishment of the Jordanian- Germany Applied
Sciences University.
His Majesty had earlier delivered a speech, during his
recent visit to Hamburg last Feb. 25, in the ceremony which was held
by Hamburg Prime Minister.
During the visit, an agreement on technical
cooperation between Jordan and Hamburg was signed.

King Receives ATS Chairman

received on Monday Chairman of the American Tourism Society
(ATS) Alex Harris and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, which was attended by Royal Court
Minister Samir Rifai, King's advisor Akel Beltaji, Minister of
Tourism and Antiquities Alia Boran, RJ Executive Manager Samer
Majali, and Chairman of the Jordan Investment Board Mazen Hmoud, the
King affirmed the vital role of the tourism sector in achieving
sustainable development.

His Majesty also stressed his support to efforts being
exerted by the ATS in the field of exploring new tourism areas.

For his part, Harris expressed the ATS appreciation for the
role being played by His Majesty King Abdullah II in attracting
investments, particularly in tourism domain.

'' The film which was aired by Discovery Channel on
the archeological and historical sites in Jordan is deemed
a distinguished model in the field of tourism promotion,'' Harris
added.

He also noted that the ATS will work on promoting and
activating tourism in Jordan.

His Majesty the King had earlier patronized the meeting of
the ATS which was held last summer in Miami city.

arrived on Tuesday in Muscat on a three- day private visit to Oman.
During the visit, the King will hold talks with Sultan
Qaboos of Oman on bilateral relations and means of

Omani senior officials and the Jordanian ambassador to Oman.

Amman, March 10(Petra)-- His Majesty King Abdullah II
returned home on Thursday following a three- day visit to Oman
during which he met with Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed.

Upon departure, the King was seen off by Sultan Qaboos
along other Omani senior officials.

The King was accompanied by HRH Prince Faisal bin Al
Hussein, HRH Prince Hashem bin Al Hussein, King's personal envoy HRH
Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad.

King Stresses the Importance of Ending the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict

Amman, March 13(Petra)-- His Majesty King Abdullah II stressed
the importance of seizing the current opportunity to end the
Palestinian- Israeli conflict in one hand and the Arab- Israeli
conflict on the other hand, and achieve a just, permanent, and
comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
The King stressed Jordan's keenness to support all
parties to push the peace process forward, encourage the
Palestinians and Israelis to be committed to the Roadmap, which
leads to the establishment of an independent viable Palestinian
state living side by side with Israel in security.
Upon receiving students participating in peace seeds
camp, the King added that the time is suitable to have
a new partnership to support peace, stability, and development in
the Middle East.
During the meeting, which was attended by Minister of the
Royal Court Samir Rifai and King's advisor Akel Beltaji, the King
affirmed that the core values of Islam form the main features of
democracy, pointing that Islam calls for dialogue, tolerance, and
moderation.
'' Amman Message aims at clarifying the true image of
Islam, which is based on moderation and centrism,'' the King noted.
Replying to a question on Jordan's youth programs, the
King stressed that Jordan attaches great attention to develop its
educational programs and use the advanced technologies in education.
On the other hand, His Majesty received a
delegation representing the American- Jewish Committee (AJC).
During the meeting, the two sides discussed latest
developments in the region as well as efforts being exerted to push
the peace process forward.

transport Soud Nsairat and Director of Financial Department and Development Muhammad Rawashdeh, the delegation reviewed the company's efforts in the field of air freight. The company is expected to start its work in Jordan at the end of current month. The company allocated two planes for this purpose carrying 250 tones
of commodity.

King off to US today

AMMAN (JT) — His Majesty King Abdullah heads for the US today with a full itinerary of political talks, meetings, media interviews and speaking engagements. The King is scheduled to meet with President George W. Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other senior administration officials for talks on bilateral ties, regional developments and global concerns.

He will also meet with senior members of Congress.

During his visit, King Abdullah will meet with members of the US' high-tech business community in North Carolina, home of Cisco Systems, which announced at the World Economic Forum in 2003 a leadership role in the Jordan Education Initiative.

This initiative aims to improve education within Jordan and establish a successful model for education reform in other developing countries.

The Monarch will also address a large academic audience at Georgetown University in Washington, where he attended the School of Foreign Service and where he is to be granted an honorary doctorate degree. King Abdullah spoke at Georgetown University's prestigious Centre for Contemporary Arab Studies in October 1999.

He will also speak to leading journalists, correspondents and national TV anchorpersons.

King Abdullah visited the US in December, when he met with Bush, senior administration officials and congressmen.

well Jenning's question wasn't that clear. He was basically asking if the reforms that the King was trying to implement in Jordan resulted in the people asking for a constitutional monarchy, would he go along with it. I'll have to see if a transcript is available in order to figure out what Jenning's exact question was. He wasnt exactly very clear. He basically kept interupting King Abdullah, at least near the end of the interview.
