I don't think that Abir has been singled out, but lets face it she is a more low key member of the family. I don't blame her 4staying out of the spotlight. Just because she does not share the same sirname as her family, does not mean that she is not loved equally. I 4one would like 2c more of her @public appearances, but i guess she has decided not 2play a huge public role in Jordan.

QN thanks Abir for helping with her memoirs so I always assumed their relationship was close and continues to be. I think Abir--given all the ups and downs of her life--is more apt to "go with the flow" and chooses not to be part of the more frenetic world of the JRF. She certainly seems to be a very stable, responsible young woman who deserves to be part of any and all celebrations going on within the family.

I've tried to look up recent news on Abir and the best I can discern is that she is married, lives and works in Washington, D.C.

I'd never read any news about her marriage ceremony so if someone runs across something, that would be interesting as I wonder if her family attended. As they all speak highly of her and she keeps a low profile, I would suspect it was a lowkey affair but, hopefully, Ali and Haya and QN, with whom she all seems to enjoy particularly close relationships with, were able to be there.

I hadn't heard of Abir before and wasn't aware that she had been adopted. Is there some precedence in the Jordanian Royal Family for adoption.

I don't really know if there is precedence. In this case, all I have read is that Queen Alia, then pregnant with Haya, learned of Abir's plight, losing her family--except for her father--and being badly injured in that plane crash and when she read her father was putting her in an orphanage, she asked him if she and KH could adopt Abir into their family. She wrote somewhere that she was very moved by Abir and nursed her back to health--even keeping her at night in her own room. I thought this reflected highly on Queen Alia's empathy and concern for others. Haya once wrote on her now defunct, I think, website, Team Harmony, Abir was the glue that held things together after Alia's death and the subsequent death of their nanny in an accident. I've always wondered if that bond has continued. Abir seems like she just gets along with everyone in the JRF.

I didn't realize that Abeer lost her parents in such an early age. I used to feel sorry for her (I still do) as I thought she lost her real parents and then QA in a short term, and I always wondered why Abeer was attached to KH and QA this much, I know they raised her but I don't know, thought she'd be less attached maybe, until I saw a photo at MGA Production where Abeer is just an infant then I realized that her parents died when she was only months old. I would ask about how her parent died, I read that an Israeli troop demolished a house over them—is it true?

I have seen a photo of her from Cover Press in PH's wedding, I recall someone here said that only her and Prince Faisal are the ones close to QN, beside her biological kids of course, out of all KH's children, so I guess she had to attend the wedding but did she attend Ali's?

She's very pretty. Seems to still have a close relationship with the JRF. The photos on MGA show how close QAlia was to Abir even after PHaya was born. By the way Princess Zein's third child Tahani al-Shahwan is adopted.

"I will never forget your generous and genuine character. I do not have the words to thank you Mama Alia or express my gratitude for having chosen me, and making me a part of King Hussein (Baba's) family. Ever since, It has been the greatest honor of my life.

I wish I had the chance to have more time with you, for I remember how warm and kind you were".

Her love for children was enormous and her character was magnetic. Ali and Haya have always protected and defended me since Her death as their sister. At this time in my life, I cannot thank Mama Alia enough for the purist gift She gave me – the gift of my Brother and Sister, Ali and Haya.

Abir was my mother's first child. My mother was four months pregnant with me when She adopted Abir. I found an interview explaining the circumstances that led to Abir becoming my older sister… "It all started" She said "When I had problems with my wisdom teeth in July and could not join His Majesty on His visit to London. In the King Hussein Medical Centre where I had my teeth removed, the nurses told me about a little girl who survived a tragic accident. She and her father were her family's only survivors when their home on the edge of Amman airport, was destroyed by a Soviet Topilov aircraft that crashed on it. Her mother, brothers and sisters were all killed in the accident. It was a miracle that she survived. When they took her out from under the rubble and the aeroplane itself, they thought she was also dead. The poor girl was lying there for four hours when they realized that she was alive. They took her to the hospital. She was all covered with sand and dust so they had to clean her up first. "When I first saw her, she was still very sick". Mama spoke to Abir's father. He told her that he could not bring up Abir by himself and he was going to put her in an orphanage. My mother asked him if She could take care of her. He agreed and was so touched that he cried on Her shoulder for two hours, in the hospital.
Mama fell in love with Abir straightaway. At her request, specialists flew in from around the world to try and save her life. "She would not respond, no matter what they did". "They thought she would never survive but she had a strong heart… I don’t know… I just carried her in my arms until the day she started to get better and I was able to take her home. I promised myself not to let anything hurt her again. When His Majesty came from London, He found me crying with relief and holding a baby in my arms. His Majesty and I have had her sleeping in our bed, trying to give her our strength and hoping that our love will keep her alive. She had been very sick for the first five weeks; she had measles and pneumonia. Then she started to improve slowly. "Now she is stable and she has her own bedroom next to ours, the same bedroom we prepared for the baby that I am expecting". When asked if Abir would move to another bedroom once the baby is born, She answered, "Of course, not, God blessed us with our first child and that child is Abir. Her sister or brother will be brought up loving her as if she was my own flesh and blood. She will never be taken away from me". In another interview with my mother, She was asked about my impending birth and how She felt about having Her first child; Her answer was "I already had my first child".
When my mother died, Abir and I took shifts holding Ali at night. Sometimes, I would wake up in those days, which were like a long nightmare and we only slept when sleep was kind enough to come, only to find her sitting over me blinking her tired red eyes from crying and lack of sleep. I would ask her "What are you doing up? Why aren't you sleeping?" She would hug me and say "Mama watched over me and I am going to watch over you forever, the same way she did to me".
Abir has grown into a beautiful young woman who would have made my mother proud of her. She is incredibly intelligent, witty and one of the most tender and thoughtful people I have ever known. Her heart is so full of love and affection. She has spent much of her time helping orphans, whom she says were not so fortunate as she was. She completed a Masters Degree in counselling and now works with children and young people, dealing with their recruitments for Scholarships in American Universities.
I smiled when I read how Abir fought for her own life when she was only six months old. Reading about it in my mother's own words made me understand one thing that had always amazed me, about Abir. She is never bitter and does not dwell over her losses. She is always grateful for what God gave her. She lost her own mother, then mine, then Maureen our Nanny, then my father and yet she always smiles and thanks God for what she has. My mother would have been proud to see how much dignity and compassion her first child has even after all the unhappiness fate has thrown her way.

Everytime I read this part I burst into tears,I once mad my mum read it and she wouldn't stop crying and sayin ya habeeby ya Ali , ya habeebty ya Haya w Abir. :( (no wonder how Ali feels when he reads his mum's diary :()

I know what you meant :o , it's just I thought since you are a new member, you wouldn’t be familiar with the agencies.

Anyway, abaeer herself has few rather rare pictures so her children's photos will be impossible, I too hope to see their pictures, wish they inherited their mom's big black eyes.
