I guess orders are only given in exchange for one of the other country. So the Queen of Denmark didn´t seemed to have given the Order of the Elephant to Mr. Gül and was in return not awarded with a turkish order.

I think it's considerate and most appropriate that Joachim honor the guests by wearing a tie in the Turkish national colors. :);)

And yes, M&F did look good.

This covers the first day of the statevisit.

Well, should the Turkish embassy read BB they can't complain about bad press! Our reporter thought President Gül resembles George Cloony in looks and charm and that kinda sold her...!
Anyway, the plane with the President and his wife was 45 minutes late, due to the political situation in Crimea, which is very much observed by Turkey.

It was usual procedure. The DRF meeting their guests at the airport and a very windy day! QMII in an outfit from Celli Freifeldt.

For the first time in many years the DRF hosted a foreign head of state (at a statevisit that is) at Amalienborg and this is indeed the very first visit by a head of state from the Ottoman Empire later Turkey to DK. The last stretch to Amalienborg was with an escort by the Guards Hussars.

In the evening it was time for the traditinal gala dinner, also held at Amalienborg. 130 guests were crammed into the beautiful but slightly inadequate rooms at Amalienborg.
It was noted that the Turkish first lady, Hayrünisa Gül, as the only woman present wore a headscarf.
QMII has fond memories of Turkey, as she and PH drove around in the country for five weeks during their honeymoon.

QMII wore a dress by Birgitte Thaulow.
Benedikte has had her dress made in Abu Dhabi.
Mary wore a dress by Carla Zampatti.
And our Marie wore a dress by Rikke Gudnitz.

The lady, Pia Kjærsgaard, wore a dress which some believe was identical. It wasn't her dress was by Lasse Spangenberg.

- So as predicted. A lot about dresses - and George Clooney, but little substance and background info.

Oh, there'll be plenty more of Frederik and George Cloony...eeh President Gül next week, I'm sure.

I understand it was held at Amalienborg because that's where the Regent Couple are in residence right now.

As could be expected Annelise Weimann don't care about suits and commerce, so no coverage of Frederik.
Instead the focus is on dresses at the Turkish return dinner, a concert and Mary and the first lady visiting a crisis centre.

The return dinner took place at the venerable Hotel D'Angleterre in Copenhagen, where the guests were treated to Turkish culinary delights and Turkish music.
QMII wore a present from PH in the form of a gold necklace and earrings designed by Torben Hardenberg.
QMII's hair was inspired by the Renaissance and was kept in place by two antique brilliant-clamps.

Princess Benedikte wore a dress by Elise Gug.

The Turkish President Gül on the way in had a pleasant surprise when two resident Turks greeted him. They turned out to come from the same village as he.

The mood was great and with almost 100 small dishes to sample from the party took quite a while longer than planned and afterwards the Regent Couple invited those who had been attached to the Turkish guests home to Amalienborg and thanked them for their work during the visit. (I.e. adjutants, personal assistants, press staff and so on).
While Benedikte invited M&F and Joachim and our Marie home to her apartment for a late night cup of coffee.

Earlier that day the Turkish guests and the DRF attended a concert, also at Hotel D'Angleterre. Outside two Turkish women living in DK, held up a couple of signs protesting political corruption in Turkey, something that didn't please the Turkish security - but it was up to Danish police to deal wit protesters and they didn't feel a need to intervene, so the women were left alone.

While the menfolks were out doing something-business-whatever-not-deemed-interesting-anyway Mary and the first lady, Hayrünnisa Gül visited a crisis centre in Copenhagen.
The crisis centre, which sadly was fully booked, can house eighteen women and eighteen children. The Mary Fundations supply backpacks for this as well as other centres in both DK, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The backpacks contain among other things a teddy bear, a litle toys and a diary. (It has been established that it helps the children to deal with the situation by writing or drawing their feelings. Apart from that the women and their children often bring next to nothing with them when they arrive at the centre.
Each year the Mary Foundation supply some 2.300 backpacks to children all over the realm.

Mary and the first mady had a chat with both staff and residents of the crisis centre. The manager of the Danner Foundation, which run this crisis centre, Susanne Phillipson, said afterwards: "There was allocated plenty of time to talk with the residents. And the chidlren had made little drawings for the guests. It was a big day in the house for the women and children who live here".

There were few, if any, pictures of the women and children who were at the centre during the visit. - For obvious reasons.

- It's an interesting fact that the majority of women seeking shelter at such centres are now first and second generation immigrants. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing. I prefer to think it's a good thing. I.e. that the women have learned that they can find a refuge and help and that they don't have to put up with abuse, which is more often than not hushed down by their immediate family.
It's also interesting that while there are crisis centres in every city and town worth mentioning there are as far as I know, no such refuges for men. Because while men can usually physically beat up a woman if need be, men are perhaps more vulnerable to psycological abuse, so where do they go? Especially as men who are being abused by a women within a relationship are still considered as being somewhat ridiculous.
Another matter is that domestic abuse also takes place within homoseksual relationships. That is something new to deal with as it has only been common for homoseksual couples to live together openly, let alone marry, within the past twenty years or so. Where do the men in these relationships go?

IMO, I see it as a good thing that these women are seeking help.
In some cultures, and even a generation ago, seeking help or going against your husband/family would have been unheard of. :flowers:

On another note, disappointed in the coverage on Frederik's events in the state visit, but i found a few more pics...
