State Visit from France to Denmark: August 28-29, 2018

A curtsey from madame Macron? Well i didn't expect that ...

Madame Chirac also used to curtsy, didn’t she ? A nice gesture of French politeness to dismiss the nonsensical American idea that curtsies are a sign of “ inferiority” and a faux-pas for wives of heads of state.

Well there are two schools : no curtsey as the spouse of the President of the French Republic OFFICIALY does not bow to a foreign king/queen (Madame Giscard or Madame Mitterrand) or the spouse of the President of the French Republic chooses to PERSONALLY show some respect to a foreign king/queen (Madame Chirac indeed, Madame Sarkozy and now Madame Macron).

At the end both ways will be criticized by the Press, so ...

I'm curious to know how Frederick and Mary returned from their trip to the Faroe Islands so quickly. Surely not on the Daneborg all the way? Wouldn't that take a few days? They must have flown surely...from where?

Frederik. There's no 'c' :flowers:

They flew from Vaga Airport, Thorshavn, Faroe Islands on Sunday afternoon and arrived in Copenhagen early evening.

As far as I know, Dannebrog is always sailed ahead of them when they go on tours in Greenland and the Faroe Islands, then the royal family fly there and meet up with her. And the same procedure on the way home. Not only is it the most practical solution (the children made it to school yesterday and Mary and Frederik made it to the state visit), if I recall correctly, it's also an ordeal and a half to sail from Denmark to either country.

Great start of the visit so far. Frederik and Mary just completed the 4 day trip to the Faeroe Islands with a busy schedule and now again ready for this state visit, where they are practically the host for the presidential couple.

A BT article about the color-coordination of dresses, illustrated with a handful of pics: https://www.bt.dk/royale/kongehuset...ar-stillede-op-som-det-franske-flag-det-er-en

And congratulations on your first post, jenjoe :flowers:

ADDED:
I noticed a few details.
The elegant way President Macron greeted QMII - and Mary. I.e. by taking her hand between his and bowing his head. In that way he showed respect for QMII (and her representative, Mary) as a royal, in the eyes of the locals. Without compromising so to speak his status as head of state of France. I understand it would in any circumstances be natural for a well-bred Frenchman to show a deep respect for an elderly woman, like QMII. Who on top of that is the matron of her family. I'm I correct or off the mark?

President Macron and the DK PM, Lars Løkke, appears to be personal friends, which is no disadvantage! https://www.b.dk/nationalt/macron-paa-besoeg-i-danmark#slide-12

President Macron can, regardless of his political views, be sure of a very positive coverage by the press here in DK. Unless he kicks one of the royal dogs - in public! ?
Being seen as a young, dynamic and intellectual leader who on top of that is blessed with a presentable look, the opinion elite here in DK absolutely love him!
His stance on a stronger EU is also appealing to most of the political segment, so they love him as well. A political appeal that is perhaps not shared by a majority of the population though...

I noticed Mrs. Macron brought along a woman for her one to one meeting with Mary at Amalienborg. An interpreter? How is Mrs. Macron's English?

This state visit is short! Only 1½ days.
A short visit is BTW in Danish called "a French visit"

Live links from the arrival of guests and eventually the main characters

The DR1 link, kindly posted by Iolanthe: https://www.dr.dk/live/nyheder/live/2807421
If you can watch this, I suggest you stay there. More camera angles, more clips and an additional coverage of the speeches later tonight.

And here is the link from Billed Bladet, which is a good backup for the arrival of guests: https://www.billedbladet.dk/kongeli...r-direkte-fra-dronningens-gallamiddag-kl-1915

---------------------

When QMII and President Macron arrives, they will inspect the honor guard from the Royal Lifeguard and the Guards Hussars in the adjoining room.

------------------------------

The DRF members will arrive shortly before 20.00 with of course QMII and the French Presidential Couple arriving as the last guests.

After the many guests have been greeted, the DRF and the French First Couple will proceed into the main hall, to the sound of a fanfare.

---------------------

Many of the guests have incorporated blue in their composition in honor of the dominant French color, which is blue.
The commentators on DR1 are well selected. A fashion expert. A foreign correspondent who was/is stationed in France for many years and former master of ceremonies the living encyclopedia, Christian Eugen Olsen.

-----------------------

The DRF will start arriving around 19.38 and by 19.45 President Macron will arrive.

---------------

If they have any, the Danish guests will wear French orders.

-----------------------

The popular French ambassador is arriving. This is his last job as ambassador.

------------------

Benedikte is about to arrive. and now the protocol takes over in regards to who arrives and in what order.

-----------------

The security is extremely high at this state visit.

--------------------

He's a bit late, the good President.

Why didn´t they do the usual welcoming ceremonies, arrival at the airport, inspecting the guard of honour on the tarmac, stately drive to Fredensborg Palace etc., this time?! And no hats used by the royal ladies...!

Good question.

It seems to have changed during the past couple of state visits.
Perhaps because an elderly lady like QMII standing waiting in a windy airport is not that great a thing to do anymore?

Maybe they do the stately drive to the Palace only for visiting royalty ?

Did she n ot receive the belgian Royal Couple at the airport? And then drove in an open carriage to Amalienborg.

They could do it also like in Sweden where the gusts are welcomed at the airport by usually Victoria and Danuiel. And then they meet the Royal Couple at the Royal mews and drive from there to the Royal Palace.

I also noticed that it was not as formell as the ladies used no hats.

I wondered the same thing.
Maybe it's a time thing? The visit is pretty short, and because Mr. Macron is the Head of State and the political leader, they have to do both represantative and political stuff. So even less time.

Well, they could do it the norwegian or british way. In Norway the CP and CPss pick up the state guests and drive with them to the palace square where TM await them on a "dais of honour".
In Britain the guests will be driven to Horse Guards Parade, accompanied by Charles and Camilla after having met them at their hotel, where HM awaits them. Then they will drive in a splendid and grand carriage procession to the palace.
In both cases no windy tarmacs elderly sovereigns have to face...!

Today it occured to me this visit was rather an official one and not a state visit, the Queen wearing a simple dress, not even a hat etc.:whistling::ermm:

Princess marie in a new tiara. Looked like diamonds. And mary in the ruby tiara.

Use the same link as before.

No Legion d' Honneur for the Crownprinces but the second Order : l' Ordre National du Mérite.
No Elefant Order for Madame Macron.
